Only the sound of swords was heard as the terrible battle raged on. Heaven and hell fighting in an on going war; Angels and demons fighting to the death for the lands they call home. Chaos was only left behind in deathly wakes.
A dispatch squad of angels was sent to investigate the area between the worlds. There was a deadly drop off where heaven spilled down into earth. One angel, #66, stepped near the edge to get a good look at the current situation. His dark red feathers twitched nervously as a hand of demons snuck up behind the squad.
Within seconds, the entire squad was on the brink of death. One of the demons walked over to #66 and pushed him off the edge.
"Ugh…#66!"
But it was too late.
1 – A new light - Xai
I didn't know where I was or if I was alive or not. All I knew was that I fell… and my body hurt so badly. I gingerly moved my body and opened my eyes. There was light! I quickly shut my eyes again in pain. I decided that to be in darkness right now would be better.
I don't know how long I laid there on the ground with my eyes shut. All I could think about was what happened. I had been standing on the edge looking over and then I had been attacked. Now, I was here.
I heard a strange noise, like a low humming sound. Fearing for my life, I sat up quickly ignoring the pain in my body, my eyes stung fiercely because they weren't used to the light. After a few moments of brief pain the scene came into view. Around me were lush trees, huge flowers and thick grass. The humming sound was louder now. I tucked my bleeding wings into my back and stood up painfully. I wavered for a few brief moments and fell back down again.
The noise seemed to be coming from a vehicle of some sort…it was coming right at me, too. I winced back a little as some rocks came flying in my direction from the vehicle. A boy about my age jumped out in a panic.
"Oh my god, are you alright?!" he asked frantically. He moved closer to me after seeing the blood.
Okay, first things first. I haven't introduced myself yet, have I? Well I am Xathanial, or just Xai for short (that's pronounced like Zanthanial and Zai) I'm an angel, you know…from the land of the gods. There was a war going on and so I was drafted into the Archangelian army. I'm a pretty good fighter if I do say so myself.
Well, my squad was doing an investigation and we were attacked. I got pushed off the edge. Now I'm on Earth
Earth…you know…with all the humans. Let's just say that angels, humans, and demons never mix…at all. So this is not a good situation.
I slowly moved away from the human's touch and he became worried.
"What happened to you? You're hurt pretty badly…" He tried to turn me around so he could see my wounds more closely.
Luckily I had my translator in my pocket so I could understand the poor boy's rambling. I held my hand up and he made a little noise; my hand was covered in blood.
"I'm fine…" I mumbled softly trying to stand up again, only fall down into the boy's ready arms.
"You don't look fine, you've lost a lot of blood. Let me help you…" he said, helping me stand up straight. I had no choice but to let him help me.
He went about it though in a nice way; very caring and making sure he knew where my wounds were. If only he knew what laid under the skin.
He helped me walk over to the vehicle that was making that strange humming noise. We got a little…too… close to it. I made a little noise.
"It's alright, it's just and ATV." He said to me. My translator down loaded the information so I knew what it was. 'All Terrain Vehicle'…great. I nodded.
The next few moment were a blur to me. I was picked up, put on the back of that monstrous thing and then the ride of my life began. I'm never gong on one of those things again!
I must have passed out because when I opened my eyes again I was somewhere new. I was lying on a cotton mattress with the covers pulled up to my neck. It was so warm. I moved a little bit and discovered that my shirt had been removed and a whole lot of bandages had replaced it. I also noticed that bandages are really hard to move in…
I closed my eyes again as a subtle sting ran through my chest. Must be the anti disinfectants that these creatures use. I thought. Time seemed to pass slowly and I nearly jumped out of bed when someone came into the room.
It was the same guy from before. He walked over towards me and noticed that I was awake.
"Good morning." He cooed softly pulling back the covers to check my wounds I made a little noise and tugged the blanket back up again. He scowled a little and sighed.
"Well, you're more awake than yesterday…" the boy said with a small smile. I blinked.
"Have I been out for a while?" I asked softly and he nodded.
"Almost two days." He said. "You should probably eat something." I nodded a little; not sure weather or not to be happy that this boy was helping me or not.
"I found this tag on a chain around your neck. It's kind of like a dog tag. But I can't read it at all. Can you?" he asked holding out the dog tag. I looked at it and smiled weakly.
"It's my personal information, my name, my age, things like that." I explained. The boy nodded.
"Can you read it?" he asked. I nodded and took the tag.
"Xathanial, age 17, blood type O…that's all." I said as I handed the tag back to the boy.
"Xathanial…" he said. "That's a really interesting name… I'm Aki, by the way."
"Aki…you can just call me Xai. Xathanial is just too long…" I said rolling over a little.
A small silence passed in between us, and my blood was pounding in my ears. Aki just kind of sat there, and so did I; as the moment got more and more awkward. I let out a little sigh and so did he.
"I should probably go get you something to eat…" Aki mumbled quietly.
"I agree." I said simply as I watched him leave.
Why was there tension between us? Did my presence there frighten him? I didn't know. Aki seemed nice. He was tall; he had black hair down to his shoulders, tan skin, and a kind smile. He wore these little glasses too; they made his eyes look big. They looked good, though.
Aki came back into the room with some weird thing in his hand. My translator told me that it was a dish.
"Here, I made you a sandwich. Its one of my favorites." he said with a smile. I sat up and carefully, minding my wounds. I accepted the plate and looked at it.
"What is it…?" I asked unsure if the food was edible. Aki smiled.
"It's a jelly sandwich. I'm so bad; I really shouldn't eat something so sweet all the time." He explained with a huge smile on his face. "I'll get that." I smiled a little and looked down at the sandwich.
I have this little scanner thing in my contact lens that can scan items for their content. It comes especially in handy when I travel between worlds, (which is hardly ever). Right now it was scanning the sandwich to see if there were toxins. Getting an all clear, I bit into the sandwich.
"Do you like it?" Aki asked and I nodded.
"It's good!" I exclaimed, eating more of it; Aki smiled.
"I'm glad. Maybe I could become a professional chef one day." He laughed. I laughed silently as well, eating more of my sandwich.
As the moments passed in silence, it got more and more awkward. Aki sat there in a chair across from the bed, which I laid in very quiet, looking down at the floor. Shifting my shoulders a little, I placed the plate on the side table. Shifting my body, I slid down underneath the covers.
"Thank you…" I said weakly, as Aki came to my side.
"Do you need any thing?" he asked and I shook my head. Soon I was asleep again.
Days passed and my wounds were feeling a lot better. I was finally able to get out of bed, though I wasn't able to get very far. One day, however, I woke up and no one was home. I raided the fridge seeing if any food was edible and found some fruit. I made my way out to the back yard so I could check something. Walking into what seemed to be an abandoned shed. I spread my wings out to see their damage. Letting out a cry of pain, I pulled them back towards me. My left wing looked broken, and I was missing a bunch of feathers. My right wing had a long gash down the middle, but it wasn't broken. Looking around the shed a little, there was nothing I could find that would help me. Sliding my bruised and broken wings back into my back, I waddled back to the house and collapsed on the couch. Maybe Aki would be home soon.
As soon as that thought went through my head, someone waked through the front door. I drew in a sharp breath, feeling as if I wasn't supposed to be in there. Aki walked through the doorway and plopped down in the chair.
"Feeling better?" he asked relaxing down into the chair. I nodded.
"Much. I can actually move." I replied quietly, looking down at the table.
"Mm. That's good." He said, letting out a sigh.
"So… where did you go to today?"
"School. My mom won't be home until way later tonight…like 10."
"Mm… I see…" luckily I had studied human time and lifestyles in heaven.
"You don't look as if you've been up too long."
"I don't think I have…" An awkward silence passed over us. Aki took his glasses off from time to time to clean them. I just sat there, my shoulders hunched.
"So… um…" Aki broke the silence.
"Hm?"
"Where are you from?" He asked me. Shit. Now I was in trouble. I needed to make up a story…quick.
