A/N: THANK YOU for reviewing! Do you know how happy you've all made me? Now its summer vacation, so I'm going to be doing some updating on this story, and my other one about the mutated kids.

To: biteme17: Yes, you can use the line! Of course you can. What kind of person would I be if I refused? (A person NOT receiving reviews, that's for sure…)

To: Dancer431: Thank you. I really didn't think anyone would read my femslash story…(It's my first one…) but I'm starting to enjoy it, and I'm glad you do, too.

Chapter Two

"Well, honey. You're just going to have to tell him…" Chana's mother, Rebeccah, said to Jacob. She, her mama and papa, along with her eleven year old twin brothers, Asher and Adam, sat around the dinner table.

"I know, sweetie, but how? That man's been through far too much,"

Chana wasn't really paying attention to their conversation as much as she was thinking about school.

Better yet, someone at school.

I can see why she's so popular with everyone… Chana thought, playing with her rice and vegetables. How can she not? She's funny, smart, and absolutely gorgeous…

At that thought, Chana quickly shook her head. No way was she going there. She'd experienced these feelings before, with someone else; and it ended terribly. She vowed never to let it happen again.

"Chana?"

With a blink, Chana looked up into Adam's blue eyes.

"Yes?" Chana asked. Adam grinned.

"What are you doing?" he asked. She frowned.

"What do you mean, what am I doing?"

Adam nodded at her plate, which was still almost completely full, whereas everyone else's was nearly clean. Chana cleared her throat.

"Oh," she said lightly, trying to come up with a fib. "I was…uh…," Chana grinned. "I was thinking about French class."

"Eww," Asher grimaced, from the other side of the table. "We already speak four languages in our family. How many more do you need?"

He was shoving mash potatoes into his freckled face so fast, Chana wondered if he was even tasting any of it.

"Well," she said, smiling at him. "It never hurts to learn more,"

With his full mouth, Chana heard him mutter, "Overachiever."

Jacob, who apparently was listening to their conversation without making it known, spoke up.

"There's nothing wrong with doing your best," he said sternly, eyeing Asher. Asher blushed, and focused on his meal, remaining silent. Jacob then turned to Chana.

"So, how was your first day of school here?" he asked. Rebeccah looked up from her plate to hear Chana's answer.

"Uh…it was really…" Chana thought back to the day. "Fun," she conceded. "I think math, French, and filmmaking are hands down my favorite classes. The film teacher, Mr. Ritz, is super cool."

"All of this film nonsense, you forget about it, understood?" Jacob said firmly, pointing his fork in Chana's direction. "Film is for other people, not us. You focus on academics, so you can be something important, like a doctor or lawyer. Do you understand?"

With the familiar dread clenching her stomach, Chana looked down at her plate. How she hated pretending.

"Yes, sir." she mumbled.

Chana sighed and poured over her math book, writing down the equations into her notebook. She loved math; it was fun. But, she really loved the arts…if only papa could see…

With a defeated sigh, Chana shoved away her math book and reached into her computer drawer. She took out a large, thick drawing pad. Flipping it open, her eyes skidded over the drawn images she'd made. Mostly animé stuff, and drawings of people and animals. Ever since she was little, she loved to write and draw.

Even came up with her own comics and stuff. Her old teachers loved them, and gave her extra credit for turning them in.

But to papa, such things were foolishness.

How am I going to tell him I don't want to be a doctor? she thought, feeling dejected. She looked back down at her drawings. I want to make comics…and movies. So everyone can see them…

There was a knock at Chana's door. Hastily, Chana shoved her notebook back into the drawer and positioned herself over her math book.

"Come in," she called. The door opened, and Adam came in, holding two frozen fruit sorbets.

"I thought you could use a break," he said sweetly. Chana smiled at him, her heart melting. Of all of her immediate family, he was the only one who seemed to understand her and knew what she needed before she even did.

"Thank you, Adam." Chana said, taking one. She got up and went over to her bed, plopping down heavily. She patted an empty space beside her.

"Join me?" she asked lightly. Adam shrugged, and sat down next to her.

For a minute or two, no one spoke; too busy enjoying the sorbets.

"So…when are you going to tell papa?" Adam asked softly. He continued to eat the sorbet, not looking at Chana. Chana licked at her sticky fingers, pondering Adam's question.

"I…I don't really know," she admitted. "I don't think papa could really ever understand, you know?"

Adam nodded, and looked at Chana with intelligent eyes. "I know papa's opinions are important," he said slowly. "But don't let them govern your life."

Adam blinked, and looked away, as if seeing something that wasn't there. He then looked back at Chana with renewed conviction.

"One day, you're going to have to make a decision," he said softly. "And you will have to choose between papa' s approval…and your happiness."

He patted Chana's leg, and left the room before she could say anything else.

Licking desperately at her messy fingers, Chana thought that Adam was really an old, wise man stuck in a child's body.

But what will I choose, if the day ever comes…? she thought. With a tired sigh, she got to her feet and headed back to her computer desk, to finish her math homework.

I'll think about it when the time comes…

A/N: I know; there's no Lia/Chana action in this chapter. But, they're just getting to know each other! It'll take some time, but there will eventually be action! I just made this little chapter so you can see a bit about Chana. Later chapters will be longer and more indepth. Oh, BTW, Kayla Spellman. I made her character up by using the first name of my second crush and last name of my first crush from real life. Thought I'd spice up the story a bit! Please, R&R!
