My Great-grandfather

My Great-Grandfather

Went to war

on World War 2

He defended his country

He's a true hero

Japan was trying to take over

Philipines

The Japanese soldiers

caught him

They held him as hostage

They were crossing this river

--a deep one--

Some of the soldiers

were loaded wih heavy items

they fell in the river and

drowned

But my great-grandfather

was holding no

heavy weapons

So some of the soldiers

were still alive

and they made it across the

river with my

great-grandfather

Then they tortured him

The wacked him on the ears

on the back of a weapon

He was deaf

He could scarcely hear anything

-- You'd have to shout to the top

of your lungs for him to hear you--

Then they tied him up

and put him on the river

And there he was,

floating, freezing cold until night came

There was a good japanese soldier

He took him from the lake

untied him and made

a fire for him

and gave him some

of his food

When morning came

the soldier was gone

The other soldiers were confused

They took my great-grandfather

And crossed another a river

some fell

The soldiers who did not fall

tried to help the soldiers who

were in the river

It was my great-granfather's chance

to escape

So he ran across the river

Some of the japanese

tried to shoot him

The bullet missed by a centimeter

After the war

He told the story

to my dad and my uncles

Then my dad told me this story

And now, I'm telling you this story

My great-grandfather is a hero in my family
