I walked up to her.
I looked her in the eye.
I told her.
She ducked her head down
And waited
For me to finish up,
My monotonous monologue,
And leave her alone,
Forever.
Then she looked up
With one crystal tear
On her long eyelashes
And I told her that I wasn't
Worth it.
That she would be
Much happier
Without me bringing her down.
She wouldn't look at
Me, that person who had been
Her friend
For such a long time.
Who was going to be her friend
For always,
Forever.
I told her she would be happy
To live without me.
But she looked at me finally
In the eyes
And said softly,
"I sincerely doubt it."
