"Aiden, I want this, more than anything. I want to be like you."

"No, trust me, Lena. This isn't the life you want."

"But it is what I want! I've thought about this for a long time. I want to be one of you. Then we can stay together. It won't be dangerous anymore. Please?"

"You don't understand! I don't want this for you! It isn't what you think it is Lena."

They'd had this argument before. Many times, in fact. But neither wanted to give up, each as stubborn as the other. She wanted something that he wasn't willing to give her. For her, it was new life, a chance to be with him for eternity. For him, it was sentencing her to a life of pain and horror. A death sentence. She wanted, more than anything, to be a vampire.

"This is so stupid! You say you love me and you want to stay with me, but at the same time you push me away! Do you know what's going to happen? We'll stay together, but I'll get old Aiden. Really old. And then I'll die an old bitter woman, and you'll be alone for the rest of your miserable life! This way, at least, we could be together. Isn't that what you want? Or am I deceiving myself? Do I only think you love me? Is that all in my head? Answer me damn it!!"

She screamed at him, daring him to answer. Tears began to run down her cheeks, but she did not notice through her anger. He watched her, his own feelings threatening to overpower him, and he answered her back, quietly.

"You think I'm lying about how I feel for you? I love you more than anything. That's why I can't take your life away! What if I take too much, what if I kill you? You might think it's so easy, but you don't realize I'm…scared."

He hung his head, defeated. Ashamed to admit he was terrified. They waited. Even in their own separate hells, waited for the other to give in.

"You are wasting my life Aiden. I love you, and I know you love me, but you're afraid of hurting me. You stay away from me, like if you touch me I'll break. You're killing me, Aiden, and I can't move on. Please, just do it. If not, then leave. I'd hope you wouldn't leave, but I can't do this anymore."

A choice, hesitation. He wrapped her in a hug, almost crushing her fragile human ribs. He kissed her, gently once, before moving to her neck. He looked into her eyes once more, and begged silently for her to change her mind. She merely nodded, and he gently, so gently, broke her skin with his sharp fangs. He tasted the blood he had longed to try, but didn't because of his love for her. His vampiric saliva seeped into the wound, changing her, and sealing the bite into a permanent scar.

She was unconscious, and would be for a while. Her body needed to adjust to the changes he had made. He easily picked her up, and brought her to her bedroom. He laid her down on the bed, then kissed her on the forehead. He lay down next to her, holding her close to him.

"I love you, Lena. Please don't make me regret this."
