4 Years Later…
Chapter Two: Talking
"Courtney." a four-year-old Alex said to his now eleven-year-old sister.
"Yeah, Alex?" Courtney said.
"Who is this?" Alex asked. Nat (now age seven), who was also in the room, looked up. Alex was holding a picture of a woman with sky blue eyes and wavy dark hair. She had a genuine smile on her face.
"That Alex…" Courtney lifted him up and put him on her lap. "Is mom." she figured he'd find out sooner or later. Better from her or Nat.
"But…I thought we didn't have a mommy." Alex said confused.
"Are you guys interested in a story?" Courtney asked.
"Sure." Nat said. He sat next to Courtney on her bed.
"Once upon a time, there was a lady named Rosalina. And she had three kids named Courtney, Nat, and Alex." Alex's eyes lit up when he heard his name. He figured the story was about him. "She was very nice, and she liked animals and she liked helping people."
"Like Courtney." Nat observed.
"I guess your right Nat. Anyway, she was also smart and real pretty. And she loved her kids very much. And every night before they went to bed, she'd give them a kiss on the forehead, and sing to them. She had a beautiful voice."
"What did she sing?" Alex asked.
Courtney smiled and softly sang the song.
Courtney: Every night I lie awake
My thoughts are rolling in
Love is won, love is lost
And loves that might have been
I see the ghost of long lost hope
And shattered broken dreams
I know it's time to carry on
It's harder than it seems
I gotta let it go, all the pain and thrive
I gotta let it go, and move on with my life
I gotta let it go, it's time to let it be
I gotta let it go, and then I can be free
The times gone by,
I can't deny
They've left their mark on me
Don't understand the master plan
That only God can see
I need to know, I wanna go
And lock it all inside
I wonder why and say goodbye
And gather up my pride
I gotta let it go, all the pain and thrive
I gotta let it go, and move on with my life
I gotta let it go, it's time to let it be
I gotta let it go, and then I can be free
I know I have the will to carry on I gotta let it go
Life's made me strong
I've learned too much to turn my head away
I'm gonna stay
And brick by brick I'll build my life again
And I'll begin
To learn from all of my mistakes
Then let them fly away
I got to let it go, I got to let it go, I got to let it go ohh
I got to let it go, I got to let it go, I got to let it go ohh
I gotta let it go, all the pain and thrive
I gotta let it go, and move on with my life
I gotta let it go, it's time to let it be
I gotta let it go, and then I can be free
Alex grinned. "I like that song." he said.
"Me too." Nat said.
"Yeah, that was mom's favorite." Courtney said. She mused her brothers' hair. "And she sang it to them every night, no matter what."
"Then what happened to mommy?" Alex asked.
"Well…" Courtney sighed and shifted Alex onto her lap. "After you were born, mommy…died. She ran out of blood and died there in the hospital."
Alex frowned. He didn't like where this was going.
"But she said she loved them so very much but she wasn't very strong and then she-" Courtney paused to wipe some tears away. "Then she…said goodbye."
Nat, who was now crying, leaned on Courtney's shoulder and cried. Alex began crying too.
"I only wish I said goodbye too." Courtney whispered so nobody could hear her, and nobody did.
a/n: I do not own the song "Let It Go" by Kyle.
