CHAPTER 1: THE MYRACLES BEGIN

---

Miracles happen, miracles happen
You showed me faith is not blind
I don't need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, miracles happen

I can't imagine living my life without you now
Not ever having you around
We found our way out
(on you I can depend)
Don't have to look back to realize how far we've come
There are million reasons
I'm lookin up
I don't want this to end

Nothin
Nothin should ever bring you down
Knowing what goes around will come around

You showed me faith is not blind
I don't need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, once in a while
When you believe
(miracles happen)
You showed me dreams come to light
That takin a chance on us was right
All things will come with a little time
When You believe

There is no question we found the missing pieces
Our picture is complete
It's fallen into place
(it's fallen into place)
This is out moment, you and I are looking up
Someone is watching over us
Keeping me close
Closer to you everyday

Nowhere
Nowhere on earth I'd rather be
No one can take this away from you and me

You showed me faith is not blind
I don't need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, once in a while
When you believe
(miracles happen)
You showed me dreams come to light
That takin a chance on us was right
All things will come with a little time
When You believe

When you believe
The soul is a shining light
When you believe
The heart has the will to fight
You can do anything, don't be afraid
We're gonna find our way

You showed me faith is not blind
I don't need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, once in a while
When you believe
(miracles happen)
You showed me dreams come to light
That takin a chance on us was right
All things will come with a little time
When You believe

----------------------------------------

Myra was ready to go. She took one last look at the garden where she had once been the queen of the fairies and where she had been the independent heroine in search of special treasures. The tree, which had comforted her and sang to her when she was sad, stood in the midst of her imaginary wonderland. This was it! The last time she was probably going to see her one and only escape from the real world, a world of pain and torture.

A tear rolled down her cheek, followed by another and then another until she burst into tears. The thought of loosing her childhood refuge was more than she could bear.

"Myra!" Mrs. Sparks called from the window; she walked down the steps and across the sea of grass looking for her daughter. She knew Myra wasn't ready to leave but there wasn't much she could do. Her new job required her to move to Keltico Hills, which wasn't all that far away from their current home and she didn't have much of a choice in the matter, so she sold the small house they lived in and bought an apartment in Keltico Hills which was only and hours drive away. Aileen Sparks had put her career on hold after giving birth to her first child, she only took jobs that kept her close to home and had flexible hours. As an interior designer, she'd had the privileged of doing so yet she had still made enough money to support her two children and live quite comfortably. It also helped that her late husband had made quite a lot of money due to his great architecture skills.

However, now that her children were older, and her oldest son was in college, she had decided to pursue her career further even if it meant having to move from their comfortable house to an apartment at a new location. It also meant her daughter would have to go to one of the schools located in Keltico Hills since her old school was an hour's drive from their new home they had decided it would be easier to switch to a school nearer to their new residence. Her son had already been accepted at Saevard University, one of their country's prestigious universities, which was also located on the other side of the nation and this made the move easier for her.

Myra on the other hand was about to start her junior year of high-school not that the whole starting over thing made a big difference considering her situation. The only part of moving she hated was the fact that they were moving out of the house she had grown up in but now that didn't seem so bad anymore because she was looking forward to a fresh start, which would be better than trying to hold on to the past.

There were two schools in Keltico Hills, Adevent School of Science and Technology and Herington Greens Academy. The two schools were both very good, but since Adevent School of Science and Technology had a special curriculum, putting more emphasis on sciences, it was certain that Myra would go to Herington Greens Academy. She had heard of the school a few times, it quite a well-known private school which was strict on what grades the students got. Failing class would be a one-way ticket to getting kicked out. Myra wasn't worried though because she had always been a good student, perhaps not the top of the class but definitely among the top five and she was also a talented artist.

Myra stood outside letting the beauty of the backyard sink into her brain for one last time before turning around and walking back into the house. The bare empty walls and packed boxes gave her an unnatural feeling inside; this place where some of her happiest memories were buried had been stripped bare of emotion. It was on to Keltico Hills now, to a stupid apartment somewhere in the middle of the city where it would be polluted and crowded, not to mention unhygienic.

The memories hit Myra once again, her dad playing with her and Jason in the yard, the little dollhouse they had built together when Myra was six, and the tire swing she was so fond of. The backyard barbeques they celebrated…moments she spent just lazing the summer away reading under the giant tree in the backyard…those would all just be memories to her. It was also the house that was filled with memories of…Dad. Dad who had always been there to tuck her into bed and chase the scary monsters away, he always knew the right things to say, the best ways to have fun and he would try his best to keep everyone in the family happy.

Tears slid down Myra's eyes as she thought of all the things that she would be losing. Myra wandered aimlessly to through the halls, purposely avoiding her own room, the room which she'd decorated to suit her changing tastes…from its original baby pink walls and soft toys to lilac with powder blue wood work and hand-made curtains which had taken her ages to finish. The room which she had used to experiment her so-called artistic talent on was now bare and the millions of pictures, photos, posters and other important items that had once cluttered the room were no more.

The last of the boxes had been loaded into the moving van and Myra took one last look at her childhood home before climbing into the passenger seat of her mother's car…this was it, silently she said goodbye to the house she'd loved and as the car pulled out of the driveway, she closed her eyes, losing herself in the warmth of the happy memories before it all happened.

It had been two years ago. Myra had just started at Wincott High and Jason had been a junior there. It was a rough time for the family because they were experiencing some financial trouble as her mother was having trouble getting jobs. Her dad was already under a lot of strain from work as they were working on a huge project. Jason had also started hanging around a bunch of kids who had gotten in trouble with the law previously.

Then one night, when her father was supposed to be working late, a call came from the hospital. Her father had died of a heart-attack. Apparently his heart couldn't take the pressure any more. It had led to even more troubles and breakdowns for the Sparks family. Jason and his mother had gotten into a huge argument about his grades which had started to slip, Myra was having trouble coping with the loss of her father and their mother was frantically searching for a job.

Myra could remember everything about that fateful night when it felt as though the world had come crashing down on her shoulders. Those had been some dark times, but eventually they had pulled through. Mrs. Spencer had gotten some job offers, Jason had managed to graduate third of his class and had been accepted at a good university and Myra had learned to cope with her father's death. It wasn't completely fine yet, but perhaps a fresh start would help to heal the last of the wounds. Myra knew her dad would want them to be happy and move on with their lives.

Disclaimer: the song, Miracles Happen from the princess diaries soundtrack is used at the beginning of the chapter as a sort of intro.

A/N: And so the story begins…this one is actually something I wrote awhile ago and I'm basically typing it up and posting it. Please review and tell me if its too crappy so that I can fix it. I was only 14 when I actually wrote this…so I don't know if it's any good.
