Prince Charming, Prince Alarming

Author's Note: Hi everyone! I've written another story! My second! This one is really random, Haha, and very different to my other story but I hope you like it anyway! I'm taking a break from the other one for a while. By the way, this chapter is titled "intro" not because it's an introduction, but because all the chapters of this story are going to be named after sections of a song. – Love from SatoKibi.

Chapter 1 - Intro

On the Sunday that I moved into my new town where my parents had found new jobs, I met a Prince Charming. He came into the corner shop that I was working in on a Sunday morning.

He arrived on a sturdy chestnut horse, in his flashy suit of armour, sword in hand, gracefully dismounted, and strode gallantly into the room. Scrap that.

His straw-like blonde hair was messed up like a bird's nest and hanging halfway down his face. He was wearing a pair of mauve striped pyjamas, and there was a stain on the front of his pants by an unknown white liquid – he looked like he had just gotten out of bed only a few seconds ago. With the elegance of a hobo with a hangover, he hobbled towards me and slumped down on the counter. For a second I thought he had fallen asleep, or died, but then he raised a feeble arm and murmured, "Coke…"

"It's not healthy to drink Coke first thing in the morning you know, why don't you have some juice instead? It's a lot better for you…" I said. Even though it wasn't my business what customers bought, he seriously looked like he was dying.

"Coke, bitch!" he repeated angrily. Or maybe he was just dying for coke.

"Okay, okay, it's just over there," I gestured towards the nearby fridge.

"Coke…" he said again, with more enthusiasm this time, as he took out three bottles, and emptied two on the spot. I was wondering whether "Coke" was the only word he knew, when he gave a frighteningly loud burp. Then I wondered if people in the next town heard him, and thanked God for my not getting hearing damage.

He tucked the third bottle under his arm and said, "I'll save this for later."

If I were him, I would have puked from drinking so much soft drink in one go, but he seemed to have gotten energised by the fizzy brown stuff, and he leaped back into life with a flash. He went to the magazine stand, picked out a men's magazine. Now I REALLY wanted to object to what he was buying. How old was he anyway? He looked about my age, maybe a bit older. Wasn't he under age? He walked back to the counter and handed me a fifty-dollar note.

"Keep the change," he said, then he left. As he stepped out onto the pavement, a gust of wind blew his hair out of his face and underneath I saw a dazzling pair of dark cyan eyes, and a super-gorgeous face. Too bad he was on crack…or should I say, Coke. Mesmerised by the small glint of beauty, I watched as he looked around, then got on a shiny pink TRICYLCLE.

What.The.Heck. It was one of those really girly ones, with glittery streamers that hung from the handlebars, and "My Little Pony" stickers all over it. He realised that I was looking at him funny and explained.

"It's my sister's. I just borrowed it 'cause I was in a hurry."

"I see…" I nodded and pretended that I understood why a teenage boy would borrow his sister's tricycle to get to a convenience store.

"Holy shit! Now I gotta ride this uphill to get back!"

"Why don't you just carry it?" I rolled my eyes at his stupidity. Blonde-haired AND blonde-brained – how nice.

"How come I didn't think of that?" he picked it up with ease, propped it on his shoulder and ran home.

I put the money in the cashier and took out the change – $35.05 – it was a pretty big sum of money to waste. Imagine how many bottles of Coke he could have bought with it! I stuffed it in my bag, deciding that I would give it back to him anyway - I had a feeling that I would see him again.

The next day was Monday – my first day at my new high school. I was hoping that at this school I would be able to make new friends and find some inspiration for songs – song writing was my favourite hobby. I hoped to become professional one day. The best thing that could happen was me falling in love – I'd never really loved anyone before, nor had I had my first kiss yet. Maybe I'd get both at my new school? That would give me something to write about. I had never written many really good songs, because I find it hard to write about things that I've never experienced.

When I arrived, I saw Prince Charming again. At first I didn't even recognise him. His uniform was well-ironed, his hair was gelled up, and walked confidently with his head high. There was an aura of dignity around him that I had never sensed before. I decided to talk to him, since he was the only person in the whole school that I knew, and I hoped that maybe I would eventually make friends with his. I approached him and waved.

"Hi! I'm Evelyn! Remember me? I met you at the corner shop on Sunday morning."

"Indeed. My name is Cyan - you're the new girl right? Pleased to meet you." He bowed and smiled, flashing a line of perfect white straight teeth. He looked really, really handsome like that.

"Oh yeah, um, Cyan, I know this might be weird, but here's your change back - I don't want it. It's not good to throw away money for no reason." I pulled out a white envelope from my pocket and held it up. "The money's inside."

"Wow, Evelyn, thanks for your honesty. You're a pretty cool person." I was so flattered. No guy had ever said that to me before.

He politely accepted my envelope, and when our hands touched, I felt my heart skip a beat. Could this be love? Oh come on. Seriously - how can I fall for a guy I've just met? I'd better not let myself get carried away…

My thoughts were disturbed by a loud voice coming from behind me chanting a really strange…chant.

"A LOVE LETTER! A LOVE LETTER! THE NEW GIRL GIVES A LOVE LETTER! THE PRINCE GETS A LOVE LETTER! HOW WILL HE REPLY?"

"Good morning Twimi," Cyan said courteously, ignoring his noisiness. "This is Evelyn, and she is kindly returning some money that I left with her on the weekend. Please excuse us." He took my hand and led me towards the back of the school, behind a cluster of trees where nobody could see us.

"Going somewhere to make out, I assume?" Twimi called after us.

The way he ran was the same as Sunday, and I giggled when I remembered the state he was in that day.

"What are you laughing about?" he demanded.

"Was it really you on Sunday?"

"What do you mean?"

"Was that swearing half-dead hobo who had a Coke obsession and reads perverted men's magazines really you? I mean, you're so different now."

"Oh, about that…" he pushed me up against a tree trunk. "You are not going to tell anyone about that, are you?" I shuffled my feet uneasily. "That was not technically me. I was not feeling too well that day, and you just happened to see that rare occasion – got that? Not that anyone will believe you if you told them." His tone was almost threatening, and I got a bit scared by it.

"Uh, yeah."

"Evelyn," he whispered hoarsely, "I really trust you but…you don't…hate me…do you?"

"No- why would I? I guess it's pretty normal for a guy to read that stuff and…" I couldn't talk anymore because he shut me up… with a kiss. Then he bit his lip and chuckled. I was so freaked. "Okay…"

"Let's just keep this between you and me."

"Okay."

"So you'll stay quiet?"

"Okay."

"Will you go out with me?"

"Okay." I snapped back to life. "Wait wh-what!?"

"Will you go out with me?"

"I've only just met you!"

"But I knew you were the one as soon as I saw you! I think I might be in love with you, Evelyn."

"Really?"

"As much as the sky is blue, baby."

I glanced up and realised that the sky was actually covered with clouds and no blue was visible – I wanted to tell him but decided to keep quiet. The bell rang. "Give me some time to think about it." I said, and went off to class.

I was in science class for only five minutes when the clouds started spilling rain. I sat there wondering about what happened to me this morning. Cyan had just stolen my first kiss, asked me out, and I had replied with "I'll think about it". It's strange how when I thought about falling in love, I found someone to fall in love with. When I thought about getting my first kiss, that guy gave it to me. I just hope nothing gets in the way…

"SOOOO SORRY I'M LATE MISS!" It was Twimi, and he was dripping wet. "I WAS TRYING REALLY, REALLY HARD TO GET TO CLASS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE BUT ON THE WAY I KIND OF TRIPPED ON A ROCK AND STEPPED ON AN ANT SO I HAD TO STOP AND MAKE SURE IT WAS OKAY BECAUSE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I TOTALLY LOVE SCIENCE AND THAT INCLUDES ANIMALS WHICH ARE PART OF THE BIOLOGY SECTION SO I STAYED TO WATCH THE ANT TO MAKE SURE I HADN'T KILLED IT AND LUCKILY IT WAS STILL ALIVE BUT WAS SLIGHTLY INJURED SO I WAITED AROUND FOR LIKE AGES UNTIL ANOTHER WORKER ANT CAME AND CARRIED IT HOME AND BY THE TIME IT GOT CARRIED DOWN THE ANT HOLE TWENTY MINUTES HAD PASSED! TIME SURE FLIES DOESN'T IT?" He stopped for a huge breath of air.

The teacher was too stunned to speak. He used the opportunity to find a spot to sit down, and coincidentally, I had a spare seat next to me. He came over and plonked down, casually slapping me on the back, as if we were old mates who had known each other since the invention of the pen.

"Nice to meet you, new girl!" he said, contradicting himself, with less hyperactivity this time. Then he made up for it by bouncing up and down in his seat, splashing water everywhere.

"My name's Evelyn. Your name is Twimi, right?"

"WOAH. You psychic genius! How did you know!?"

"Cyan mentioned your name this morning remember?" The mention of Cyan's name was like a blow to his stomach. He winced and looked down at his fingers which were fiddling with a little key-ring attached to his pencil case.

"You don't like Cyan?" I asked.

"Well…"

"He seemed pretty nice when he asked me out this morning." I don't know why I mentioned it, but I was really proud – I had never been asked out before.

"Don't go out with him."

I'm so damn jinxed.
