dripping to the floor the clean water
believes in steady falling
as opposed to that dance of gained speed
unsteady head-rolls-over-heels
that humanity is renowned for

the steady beat, the plip and then the plop
drips from your ear to the floor where the water falls
and back again
stoic but not without emotion
just a job that the water does right

if you turn up or down the water faucet
you will break a chain of diligence
if you turn the water off
the silence will attempt to drown
your ears with its misery

and
just in case you are falling in a dance
of gained speed
unsteady head-rolls-over-heels
place a bowl of water with a faucet dripping
beneath so that you will not hurt the silence
