I Miss You

I miss you. I miss your smile. And I still shed a tear every once in a while. And even though it's different now. You're still here somehow. My heart won't let you go. And I need you to know. I miss you.

Chapter One

Five kids stood with a crowd outside. The wind gently hit their faces as tears streamed down their cheeks. They all wore black to match their feelings at the moment.

Sadness.

Crystal wiped her tears away and looked at the headstone one more time.

R.I.P

Courtney Ayame Lorelei Smith

A wonderful sister, friend, and daughter.

You will always be loved

A new set of tears poured down her cheeks as she buried her face in JC's shoulder. Nat and Alex were crying the hardest. After all, their only sister was dead.

The kids didn't really listen to the pastor talk about Courtney. They did stick around after the service was over. They tried to stop crying, but their attempts were futile.

Nobody spoke for some time. They just sat there, staring at the headstone.

"I can't believe she's really gone." Robbie said running his fingers through his light brown hair.

"We didn't even see it coming." JC added. He rested his hand on Crystal's shoulder.

"It's our faults anyway." Alex said.

"What? How is it your faults?" Crystal asked kneeling down to their level.

"Remember?" Nat asked.

It was night. Courtney, Nat, and Alex were walking down the street. Their only light were the streetlights and the stars.

"Hey, Court, come and get us!" Alex cried as he and Nat ran forward.

"Guys, don't run. It's dark!" Courtney said. When they didn't stop, she sighed and started to run after them. "Guys! Slow down!" Courtney was stopped when a man stepped in front of her.

"Can I help you?" she asked timidly.

A minute later, Nat and Alex heard a cry of pain. They turned around to see their sister laying limp on the floor and a guy running away from her, holding a dagger in one of his hands.

"COURTNEY!" they screamed and ran towards her. They dropped down by her side. She was bleeding from her stomach.

"Oh my God. Alex, g-get me her phone." Nat said. Alex grabbed Courtney's cell phone from her pocket and handed it to his brother.

Nat dialed 9-1-1 and an ambulance was on their way. Alex was crying hard. Nat picked up the phone again and dialed Crystal's number.

"Crys…" he said crying.

Several minutes later, Crystal came running up to the Smith brothers just as two paramedics loaded Courtney into an ambulance. She hugged the two boys and whispered soothing words in their ears.

"Oh no. She stopped breathing." one said.

"She what?" Crystal asked.

The paramedics got out the defibrillator and shocked her chest. After five minutes, they sighed and turned to the three kids.

"I'm sorry." the one said. "But she's gone."

"No…" Crystal whispered shaking her head. She felt tears sting her eyes. Alex buried his face in her stomach and sobbed.

"NO! NO! SHE'S NOT DEAD!" Nat sobbed running to his sister. She laid on the stretcher, her eyes shut. She had stopped bleeding. Nat took her hand and cried some more.

"Please don't be leave me CC…please." he whispered. But as he expected, nothing happened.

Alex was crying again after this. JC picked him up and hugged him.

"Guys you can't blame yourselves for this." Robbie said.

"But it's true. If we had listened to her instead of running ahead, then she'd be here." Nat said, tears streaming down his cheeks. "If it weren't for us, Courtney would be alive!" Crystal hugged Nat as he sobbed into her chest. Robbie wrapped his arms around her shoulders and the five of them stood there, crying…
