I felt your loosened grip on mine

Slacked arms at your sides

Your words hung in the air like a chill

Unable to be denied, only blocked by my sweater's warmth

I watched your back as you retreated into the night

And the leaves brushed against one another

Only an outline drifting further

Swallowed by the deepest blue

I stood transfixed by you once more

Taking your languid steps away

As though you'd planned it to be this way
