Waiting

It is quiet here, without your soft voice
Calling to me from beneath the dark sky.
My heart, it waits silently to rejoice
At the sound of an echo in reply.
Yet there is no one here in the darkness.
I listen for the soft sighs of your dreams
And the empty silence leaves me breathless.
I can hear now my heart's desperate screams
As it races to be by your side. Nay,
Chained to my breast it can never reach you.
It waits pained and broken, waits night and day,
Waits for the sound of not one heart but two.
So wait for that day and open your eyes
To arms wrapped around you with the sunrise.
