Inspired by a true story. One shot.
She thought about her early childhood. It was the only time in her life that she'd been truly happy. Her dad was alive and her mother had actually loved her. Her dad had died of cancer when she was just 9 years old and everything changed. Her mother started to drink heavily and abuse her. The final straw came when her mother's boyfriend started molesting her. She couldn't take it anymore and so she ran away from home at the age of 12. Two weeks later she was found and was placed in Child Protective Service. Because the staff there was horrible, she ran away after being there for just 6 months. She was on her own for 10 years after that.
She zipped up her short red dress and looked down at the fat bald man who lay passed out on the Motel's room bed. She grabbed her purse and the $25 he paid her for her services from the dresser and set out to leave; not before she saw her reflection in the mirror, though. Her hair was a mess and her make-up was smeared. She looked away disgustedly and walked out.
When she arrived home that morning, the sun was just starting to rise. At the tender age of 22, she found herself living alone in a small 1 room apartment trying to make ends meet. She rested for an hour before deciding to watch some television. A preacher on the Christian channel caught her attention. He was preaching about a Man who forgave everyone's sins. He ended the sermon by encouraging his viewers to get in a good Bible-based church.
She started to cry and realized what she had to do. She grabbed her keys and headed out the door.
It took her 10 minutes to find a church. The big white church with the huge wooden cross in front of it, immediately caught her attention.
She walked in and was led to the very front pew. She could hear people mumbling about her appearance and her short red dress. Some of the men who were mumbling were her most faithful customers. She honestly didn't care what the men thought of her, for if they only knew her story. Rather, she cared what THE MAN thought of her.
At the end of the story service when the Pastor offered discipleships to the congregation, she was the first person to stand up.
"I see you, my sister," he proclaimed stretching out his arms to embrace her. She wiped a falling tear from her eye as she walked into his arms.
"Father, please forgive me; for I have sinned!" She shouted. "I'm home Father. I'm home." She cried clutching the back of the Pastor's suit jacket.
"My sister, God has heard your despairing cry and He forgives you," the preacher announced hugging her tightly.
That was 10 years ago….
Today that young lady lives in Chicago, Illinois with her husband of 5 years and their 2 year old son. They are still very active in the church which should come as no surprise since her husband is a Pastor. In fact, he's the same Pastor who embraced her when she found her way back to Christ.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see…
