Danny groaned as the sound of his cell phone woke him up. He glanced at the clock and saw that it was nine in the morning. It was too early for him to wake up considering it was still summer vacation. Plus, he went partying last night and he had a tad bit of a hang over. He looked at the caller ID and answered it quickly.
"Hey baby," he cooed into the phone.
"What took you so long to answer?" she replied back obviously upset about something.
"Sorry, I just woke up with the biggest headache. What's wrong sweetie?"
She sighed into the phone.
"Whatever, just get you're ass to the lake in twenty minutes. We need to talk." With that, she hung up the phone. Danny cringed at the phone. He was used to April bossing him around. Truth is, he found it hot. April had been his girlfriend for the past year. It shocked Danny, because she was the school's diva and the hottest girl in school, according to 98.46 percent of the high school boy population at Westwood High. And the 1.54 percent that disagreed are the one with girlfriends or who are gay. Danny knew he was lucky to be dating her and loved every second of it.
He ran his fingers through his dark brown hair, and rubbed his chocolate brown eyes. He got up and stepped into the bathroom for a quick shower. He put on a pair of dark blue jeans, a green shirt, and his leather jacket. He grabbed a pop-tart on the way out the door, and hopped into his car and drove to the lake.
When he got to the lake, April was already waiting there. She had on a black mini skirt that went low on her hips, with a red halter top that showed off her stomach and her belly button ring. Her dark red hair down below her shoulders. He smiled at her but the smile wasn't returned. She just stood there with her hands on her hips.
"Hey baby," Danny said as he ran up next to her.
"What took you so long?! I said to be here in twenty minutes and it took you…" she looked at her watch. "Twenty two minutes."
"Sorry, I didn't know two minutes was a big deal."
"Danny, any second of being late is a big deal."
"Ok, I'm sorry. It won't happen again, I promise." He leaned down and gave her a kiss but she just backed away.
"Fine, but we need to talk."
Danny nodded and took a seat on the log while she took a seat on a tree stump that had her jacket under her.
"What's up, sweet thing?"
"I don't think it's…working between us." Danny scrunched his face in confusion.
"I don't think I understand."
"We had a great run, but I want to see other people." She said looking straight into his eyes. Danny couldn't believe it.
"Is this because I wouldn't put out? Give me some time baby, I can change," Danny pleaded. He was ready to grovel if he had to.
"It's part of it. Look, I'm being transferred to Westwood for Girls. And I want to be open and it's just not working for us." Danny's mouth fell open. "For what it's worth, you're a decent kisser. I wasn't always grossed out when we made out."
"But I wrote you a song…just listen." Danny pulled a piece of paper out of his jacket pocket. He went down on the ground before her feet. "April hits me like a sun beam. April makes me want to scream sweet whispers in your ear. April is the spring time. April is my spring time-"
"Stop. You're pathetic, just stop."
Danny sat there on his knees while April stood up. She flipped her hair over her shoulder and said, "I'll give you a call if I ever need a hook up. Since you're willing to put out now." With that, she strutted away in her red pumps and drove off.
Danny sat in his room depressed. He hadn't left his room since he met April at the lake. He groaned and banged on his bed. There was a knock at his window and he looked up to see his main man Scott. Danny sighed and opened the window for him and Scott climbed in.
"Hey dude. Your mom called, she said you were down in the dumps and wouldn't leave your room."
"Scott, am I a bad kisser?"
Scott's eyes widened.
"Do you think I would be good in bed?"
Scott was silent. He honestly didn't know what was going on.
"Am I not passionate enough? I mean don't girls like gentle lovers too?"
"Dude, I'm not in any position to answer those questions," Scott said moving farther away from Danny. "Look, if you're gay you can tell me. I won't judge you."
"NO! I'm not gay!" Danny shouted. Scott lifted his hands in surrender. "April broke up with me."
Scott gave his best friend a look and a pat on the back. He wasn't surprised this happen. Not only was April known as the hottest girl in school, she was also a heart breaker. It also didn't help that Danny was a sensitive guy. One time Scott called him fat in his jeans and he burst out in tears. He also went on a diet… Scott knew that when the day for his heart to be broken came, major comforting is what he needed. He would never leave his best friend hanging after a bitch like April used him like a Kleenex.
"Ouch. Well, we knew it was coming sooner or later. We all made a bet on how long it'll last. And you surprised all of us. But I still owe David twenty bucks." Danny looked at Scott and glared at him. "Dude, I'm just trying to lighten the mood."
"Yeah, well it's not helping," Danny said before he laid back down.
"What did she say?"
"That she wanted to see other people, I'm a decent kisser, I'm pathetic, and she'll call me if she ever wants a hook-up."
"Ouch. That's harsh man. What a bitch."
"Hey, don't talk about her like that. I love her."
"Did you tell her that?"
"No, but I should have."
A smile spread across Scott's face.
"Dude, just go tell her!"
"I can't! She's gone. She got transferred to Westwood for Girls."
"That sucks, man. If only you could get in there. But no boys are allowed and they lock the gates and security is TIGHT!"
Danny gave him a look. "How do you know this?"
"I've tried to sneak in, trust me. The guards know me by name now." Danny chuckled and rolled his eyes. "Too bad you couldn't pass as a girl or something."
Danny looked at Scott and his face lit up. "Are you ok?"
"Scott you're a genius!" Danny shouted.
"Thanks, but why?"
"I could pretend to be a girl, find April, and tell her I love her!"
Scott gaped at his smirking friend. Did he go insane or something? He was only joking, but apparently Danny wasn't.
"Number one, how are you going to tell her you love her if you're a girl?"
"Easy. I won't be when I tell her."
"Ok, well how are you going to pull off being a girl?"
"Your older sister is in town right?"
"HA HA HA HA HA HA! You want me to do WHAT?" Caroline laughed. Caroline was Scott's older sister. She was in her early twenties and was currently visiting from college. Caroline had the same blonde hair and green eyes as Scott, only her hair went down past her shoulders. She usually liked to hang out with the guys than with the girls, but she wasn't a complete tomboy or anything. She just wasn't too girly.
"Transform me into a girl," Danny said rolling his eyes. This is the third time he had to say it.
"Why exactly? Are you gay?"
"No! I like girls!"
"So you want to be a lesbian?"
Danny glared at her. It was tough already, but Caroline wasn't making it any better.
"No, look…I love this girl. But she got transferred to Westwood for Girls before I could tell her I love her."
"And me turning you into a girl is going to help? Is she a lesbian?"
"NO!" Danny shouted. "I need to dress like a girl to get into the school. Once I'm in, I'll go find April and tell her I love her. Once, I'm a man again of course."
"Scott, I think your buddy has lost it," she said turning to face her brother.
"I'm with you sis, but he's set his heart out to do this," he said with a shrug. Caroline sighed and turned back to Danny.
"Are you sure you love her?"
"Then let's get started," Caroline said with a smile. "If we're going to do this, it's going to take a lot of work. You ready?"
"Oh yeah. Goodbye Daniel hello Danielle."
