Okay so I don't know why the first chapter wasn't showing up before but I hope this fixes it.

Monday

"Hi Lyn, how's it going?"

I looked up to see my friend Saka standing in the doorway to the lounge that I had claimed for myself earlier in the year.

"Hi Saka it's going fine" I responded with a smile. "What's up with you?"

"I just finished meeting with Dr. Powster."

"Hmmm, how did that go?"

"How do you think it went?"

"That bad?" Dr. Powster was known for her hardness towards new graduate students, especially the females. "I wouldn't worry about it too much; she's only hard on you because she thinks you can handle it."

"Or she doesn't and she wants me to quit on my own."

"Saka stop being so dramatic."

"But that's what I do. Anyways are you going to the Halloween party Dr. Strate is throwing on Saturday?"

"I'm not sure, I don't have a thing to wear and I probably couldn't find something decent to buy at this late of date."

"Make something; it's a costume party anyways."

"Make something? I don't have the time to make something. I have so much to grade for Janice."

"Is she still dumping everything on you? And besides it's a theme party, literary characters; throw something together and say it's from some modern novel and your done."

"Yes she is still dumping everything on me. Well I guess I should have known something was up. I mean I got the assistantship pretty easily."

"Are you going to stay her assistant for next semester? She never seems to keep an assistant for more than a semester. "

"Probably, I mean the course matter is interesting and the class takes a different venue each semester because of the students..."

"What is it?"

"Nothing, I mean it's not like I have anything else to do. I don't have a boyfriend or even a pet so it's not like there is something that I am neglecting. I have all the free time in the world. I just don't want to be stuck doing someone else's work anymore."

"Well who would, besides who is to say that all that might not change from now till then? You might get a certain professor under your Christmas tree this Christmas." Saka said giving me a wink.

I knew exactly whom she was talking about, "Saka don't be silly, it was a passing thing."

"A passing thing? Then why did you just turn three shades of red?"

"I'm ignoring you now."

"I'm just saying, it could happen; if you stay her assistant you will have to spend more and more time with him. You know they do lots of group work with their classes."

"Yes and the rumor is they are seeing one another so the last thing I want to do is move in on my professor's man, so let's drop it. What did Dr. Powster say in your meeting?"

"The usual, they expect better work from graduate students, being a graduate student is different than being an undergraduate one. Blah blah blah…"

"Yeah she gave me the same speech and look at us now; she actually smiles when she sees me."

"Ha! Well I'm going to head to the library; they're holding a book for me."

"Alright, I should get going too, I have to show a movie for Janice's ten o'clock class."

"Give me a call later, maybe we can do dinner tonight."

"Will do."

Saka waited for me to gather my stuff and we both headed for the door, with words of goodbye on our lips. Suddenly she got a silly grin on her face and she stared passed me, looking at something behind me. I turned to see what had caught her eye, and saw him. The same professor we were talking about a few minutes earlier. He was walking towards us in deep conversation with Dr. Strate. I thought about sneaking back into the lounge pretending to have forgotten something when Saka preempted that by saying, "Good morning professors."

"Hello ladies" Dr. Strate said, "Am I going to see you both at the party?"

"That's the plan Dr. Strate, me and Lyn were just discussing our costume plans, isn't that right Lyn." Saka said giving me her biggest smile ever. I return her smile with an 'I'm so going to kill you later' smile of my own.

"That's right."

"Good, Dr. Stein and I were just talking about our costume ideas as well. I plan on going as Count Dracula or Vlad the Impaler if you will. I have been trying to give Stein here some ideas; you girls wouldn't have any would you?"

As Saka and Dr. Strate started discussing potential costume ideas, I noticed that neither Dr. Stein nor I had said anything. It seemed we were both willing to let Saka and Dr. Strate take over this conversation. Now this would be a good time to describe Dr. Stein for you. His full name was Jasper Stein. He was professor in the History department having just started his teaching career just three years earlier. His Germanic heritage was evident in his light sandy blonde hair that he kept cut quite short. His square jaw was adorned with a neatly trimmed goatee; it framed his wonderfully firm lips. Behind those lips was the voice that was designed to tempt even the strongest of women. That voice had drawn me to his class as an undergraduate. After hearing him do a guest lecture for my club I had purposely retook a class so that I could have him as a professor. It did not matter much to me that I had taken the class as a freshman and had aced it.

However, it wasn't just his voice that drew me there were his eyes. They were the darkest, yet intense, blue eyes that I had ever seen. When I had first seen them I had imagined the song "I Love You Now and Forever" playing in the background. You know the part where she talks about the "… most incredible blue eyes I ever seen…" They drew you in and held you captive, forcing you to pay attention to whatever he was saying. To me they were a weapon, whenever in the class there had been a debate usually with me in the lead of the opposition, he would pinned me with that gaze and I would instantly give up the fight and agree with anything he said. I can literally spend hours starring at his face, if I wasn't afraid he would think I was crazy or something. So naturally, my eyes would wander to his body, his incredible body. His body was the envy of a Grecian god, even the mighty Zeus would envy this man. It was honed to perfection from years of being an athlete. From what I was able to gather from the articles in his office was that he use to play baseball and was a track and field star. Even though he towered over me in my highest heels, he didn't seem huge and oppressing. He didn't crowd me like most men who were considerably taller than I was. I guess I should go ahead admit that I still have a major crush on him and the things that I had daydream about us doing and him doing to me would probably be rated triple "x", but it wasn't like I was ever going to have the chance to act on these dark fantasies.

Even though I had unintentionally tuned Saka and Dr. Strate out, when the word pirate was mention, my attention was drawn back to the here and now. Which is when I noticed that I had not been the only one who had been staring, he was staring too. But that couldn't be, could it?

"So what do you think Stein, should you and Lyn go as little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf? I think it fits, don't you Saka?"

"Yeah, I think it would be awesome, and you said no one has mentioned going as those literary characters yet. It's a great idea Dr. Strate, isn't Lyn?"

"Well um—"

"I think it is a great idea" Dr. Stein cut in. "That is if Lyn is okay with going to the party as my date?"

Whoa, what was going on? I threw Saka a panic look; she returned it with a smug one. I tried to figure out what had just happened. Was I just asked out by him in a roundabout way? Let's not jump to conclusions Lyn, I told myself. Maybe he needs a date because Janice can't make it to the party. Yeah that makes more sense.

"No I don't mind." I blurted out.

"Great, it's settled. Well if you all will excuse me, I have class to get ready for. If I don't see you beforehand then I'll see you at the party." Dr. Strate said before moving on down the hallway.

"I should be going too, so I can make it to the library before work. I'll talk to you later Lyn." Saka said with the same smug smile on her face before quickly moving down the hall. Some friend, that left Dr. Stein and me alone in the hall. Okay so it wasn't like we were the only ones in the whole building. There were offices up and down the hall and some of the doors were open. However, for some reason that really didn't seem to matter, especially when I turned to look at him. Only to find him standing there with a wide grin on his face, I had never notice how small and intimate these halls were.

"You know you don't have to go as my date if you had other plans."

"No, I have no other plans."

"Really, I kind got the feeling like you really wanted to say no to the idea of us going as red riding hood and the big bad wolf. Although I have to say I think I might be hurt if everyone around here thinks of me as a wolf, bad or otherwise." He ended with a small chuckle.

"Yeah right, I have seen you with some of those freshmen. Just last week you scared the socks off some poor guy for walking in late to the class." I responded, remembering the episode from last week's group class between his and Janice's class. The student had actually been one of Janice's student and a habitual late comer but Janice had yet to do anything about it.

"Yes well you have to get to them early; I bet he won't have the audacity to come in late again."

It was true the young man had been on time ever since that day. "At the same time I don't think I like everyone thinking I am some young innocent little girl."

"It's not that bad of an image. I personally am looking forward to seeing you in the costume."

At that statement, I could feel my face once again heating up as a blush overcame me. Clearing my throat I responded with, "I should be heading to class now, don't want to be late."

"Maybe you should give me your number and I'll call you later and we can discuss the details for Saturday."

"Yeah sure," Giving him my number I made a quick exit down the hall, feeling his eyes on me the whole time.
