Scene 1: Living Room

(Sarah, Tony, and Anita are hanging out.)

Anita: Anyone want to go to a college party this Friday?

Sarah: Sure, I'll go.

Tony: Count me in.

(Mother enters.)

Mother: Everything OK in here?

Sarah: Fine. I'm going to a college party on Friday with Tony and Anita.

Mother: You can't go.

Sarah: Why not?

Mother: You're too young.

Sarah: I'm 16 years old in case you've forgotten.

Mother: I know how old you are and I don't like your attitude. You're not going to the party and that's final. (exits)

Anita: Sorry, Sarah. The party won't be the same without you.

Sarah: I'm still going.

Tony: Your mom said you couldn't.

Sarah: I don't care. I'm old enough to make my own decisions. I'll just tell Mom that I'm spending the night at Grandma's house.

Anita: Does your grandmother know about the party?

Sarah: Not yet but she lets me do whatever I want.

Tony: Really?

Sarah: Really. If I asked Grandma if I could drive her car through the shopping mall, she would say, 'sure'.

Anita: Your grandmother's cool.

Tony: Mind if we join you?

Sarah: Not at all.

Scene 2: Grandma's House

(Sarah, Tony, and Anita are getting ready for the party. Grandma enters.)

Grandma: You 3 look nice.

Anita: Thanks.

Tony: It was nice of you to let us do this.

Sarah: You're the best, Grandma.

Grandma: As long as my granddaughter's happy, I'm happy.

(Sarah kisses Grandma on the cheek.)

Anita: We should finish getting ready.

Tony: The party will be starting soon.

Sarah: Then let's finish getting ready.

Grandma: Have a good time. (exits)

Scene 3: College Campus

(Party is taking place. Sarah, Tony, and Anita are eating the refreshments and drinking fruit punch and soda.)

Anita: This party rocks.

Tony: Totally.

Sarah: Really worth sneaking out for.

Anita: I can't believe your mom thinks you're too young for this.

Tony: I really like that you can think for yourself.

Sarah: I wish my mother would realize that.

Anita: Does she let you do anything?

Sarah: I wish. She's so strict that I feel restricted in my own house.

Tony: I wish I knew what I could do to help you.

Sarah: Right now I just want to have a good time.

Anita: Same here.

Tony: Right on.

(Sarah, Tony, and Anita start dancing to the rock music playing on the CD Player.)

Scene 4: Sarah's Bedroom

(Sarah, Tony, and Anita are hanging out.)

Anita: Wasn't that the best party?

Tony: That was one of the best parties I've ever been to.

Sarah: That party last night was one of the best moments of my life.

(Door opens. Mother enters.)

Mother: Anita and Tony, I need to speak to Sarah alone. You can see her later.

Anita: Good luck, Sarah.

Tony: See you later, sweetie.

(Sarah and Tony kiss on the lips. Anita and Tony leave.)

Mother: All right, Sarah, I want the truth. Did you go to the party last night after I forbade you to?

Sarah: How did you find out?

Mother: I heard you, Tony, and Anita talking. Now why did you deliberately disobey me?

Sarah: I'm tired of you not letting me do anything!

Mother: I don't care. I didn't want you to go to that party because you're too young and it could've gotten out of hand. What if you, Tony, or Anita got hurt from the party getting out of control?

Sarah: I'm not stupid, you know.

Mother: OK, THAT'S IT, YOUNG LADY! YOU WILL STAY IN THIS ROOM UNTIL DINNER AND YOU ARE GROUNDED FOR TWO MONTHS! I'M TAKING AWAY ALL OF YOUR PRIVILEGES! I HOPE THIS WILL TEACH YOU THAT YOU NEED TO LEARN TO RESPECT THE RULES THAT I LAY OUT FOR YOU!

Sarah: FINE, THEN! NOW GET OUT OF MY ROOM!

(Mother leaves. Sarah angrily stomps over to her bed and sits down.)
