PROLOGUE

Felines and canines rarely ever get along with one another. Cats are more independent than dogs, which is why you see more wolves in a pack than you would see cats living in the same room without competition.
The same goes for our kind. Werecats never cared for werewolves. We've hated each other since the beginning of our races and continue to hate each other to this very day.
I'm telling you this now since I don't know how long I have left. With how good your memory is, my little Aethel, I'm sure you'd have no problem in remembering this little father/daughter conversation we're having.
Never mingle with werewolves, Aethel. I tell you this with utmost sincerity and caution for your well being. Werewolves are vicious creatures that have no self-respect for themselves. They are descendants of dogs, and dogs can't do anything but beg and roll over for their masters.
Now, we are descendants of the great felines from ancient times in Egypt. Our Lady, Bastet, passed down her abilities to her demi-children and thus down to us and to you. As you grow and prosper in life, you will slowly gain an understanding of these abilities and the true form of the cat-beast within you.
And someday, I hope, you will have a family of your own. Your mate should be special, and you should treat him with respect and show him as much love as he shows you. There's no doubt in my mind that the young cub in the next clan would want you as his mate. You two would make a fine couple and sprout strong, healthy cubs of your own one day.
My little Aethy, you're a natural born leader. I look at you and I see all the successes in my life. You'll make a wonderful queen of my clan one day, my daughter. I've yet to see you grow into it, but I know one day you'll make me very proud of you.

"Anikó, take Aethel and whoever you can from the clan and get out of here."
"But what about you? You have to come with us. You're the King of our clan."
"I'm not going to make it. Just get out of here while you still can. I don't want either of you following me to my death."
"Lavi…"
"OUT!!!"
"PAAAAAAAAPAAAAAAAAAAA!!"
