Gather round, my children
And I shall tell a tale
Of a man who crossed the ocean
Without ship or sail

The man is me, my children
I shall tell you of my quest
Of my journey to the land of death
I tell it not in jest

For in that land was a treasure
Surpassing gems and gold
And I sought to win it
Like a hero out of old

Oh, I crossed the ocean
And I braved the sea
To find a treasure of great worth
And bring it back to me

I knew that I could never win
My treasure on the land
So I dove beneath the waves
And dug beneath the sand

The treasure had been mine, you see
I sought to win it back
The prize was the heart of a maiden fair
Who could give me what I lacked

Oh, I crossed the ocean
And I braved the sea
To find a treasure of great worth
And bring it back to me

For once upon another time
There was a girl I knew
A purer lass I've never met
And oh, her heart was true

Her hair was as gold as sunlight
Her eyes as gray as dawn
And eternal joy she did bring
To those she gazed upon

She was a princess of far away
From a land beneath the waves
She was perfect in every way
And her I meant to save

Oh, if I could cross the ocean
Dive beneath the Emerald Sea
I'd win back my maiden's heart
And bring her back to me

But upon my maiden true
There was a deadly curse
And I would never know of it
It was all for the worse

For the land beneath the waves
Was guilty of great sin
They had destroyed too many lives
To ever be pure again

A siren I never knew she was
As she never spoke a word
Her voice held power far too great
For mortals to have heard

Oh, if I could cross the ocean
Dive beneath the Emerald Sea
I'd win back my maiden's heart
And bring her back to me

Her father had forbidden her
To journey to the land above
But fair maiden did prevail
In an attempt to find true love

Sirens have no souls, you see
And merely drift after death
And so they try to win mortal hearts
Until their dying breaths

For only through true love
Can they gain immortal souls
Without love, at the gates of death
They cannot pay the toll

Oh, if I could cross the ocean
Dive beneath the Emerald Sea
I'd win back my maiden's heart
And bring her back to me

I knew not the laws she broke
And how her heart ached
I didn't know we couldn't be
Or the fear she'd leave in her wake

For without her in the ocean
Balance was unknown
So she denied her love for me
And returned to take her throne

Her legs she traded for a tail
And she left me for the ocean
I could never have hoped to know
The plans she'd set in motion

Oh, if could cross the ocean
Dive beneath the Emerald Sea
I'd win back my maiden's heart
And bring her back to me

She broke my heart and left again
Into her underwater world
When her father learned what she'd done
Into chaos my land was hurled

Storms did grow, waves did crash
Chaos supreme did reign
And so began the fall of Afallone
My love had become my bane

The isle sank, my people drowned
And at that time I did not know
That my fair maiden had returned
And she drowned in the sea below

Oh, if I could find the lands of death
And if the gods would hear my plea
I'd win again her love and life
And bring her back to me

I'd escaped the wave of death
But to me it brought no joy
I'd lost everything I'd once loved
That I'd known since I was a boy

In the islands I lived my life
Stripped of joy and pride
And prayed to find my love again
With the Goddess as my guide

Years passed and I gained naught
But dreams of my love long lost
Until the day I heard the tale
And knew that I would pay the cost

Oh, if I could find the lands of death
And if the gods would hear my plea
I'd win again her love and life
And bring her back to me

For I'd heard the story
Of where the sirens go to die
A place that rests beneath the waves
Called the land of Lullaby

The siren afterlife is harsh
There is no light or mirth
And without an immortal soul
There is no hope of rebirth

I knew then that it was my quest
To the land of Lullaby I'd go
I'd find her love and save her
From the depths below

Oh, if I could find the lands of death
And if the gods would hear my plea
I'd win again her love and life
And bring her back to me

I had no ship, I had no sail
I had no wings to fly
And so I went and prayed again
To the Goddess set on high

She showed me what I had to do
To regain my maiden fair
So I went into the sea
And took a final breath of air

I dove beneath the glass-green waves
I searched for the hidden door
That entrance into Lullaby
Where no human had been before

Oh, if I could find the lands of death
And if the gods would hear my plea
I'd win again her love and life
And bring her back to me

And I found the hidden doorway
That lead to Lullaby
I didn't know if I'd return
So I bid my life goodbye

I'd swam that endless ocean
Dove beneath the Emerald Sea
For I planned to win my maiden's heart
And tell her what she meant to me

I found her there in Lullaby
A princess all alone
The one who'd loved a mortal prince
And lost her life and throne

And oh, I'd found the lands of death
To the gods I made my plea
To win my maiden's love and life
And take her back with me

I did not know the rules of life
But I knew I was cheating death
And so I swore to pay for her
With my final dying breath

The gods, they went to council
So they could talk upon my plea
And in Lullaby I waited
To hear my destiny

The gods returned from conference
A decision they'd come to
Love had won another change
And we could begin anew

So I took my maiden from the ocean
And I took her from the sea
For I'd won her love and life
And I brought her home to me

We had no castle by the sea
We had no kingdom now
But we swore we'd make it through
We'd find a way somehow

We learned the ways of normal life
Without palaces or thrones
And on our island we remained
In our seaside cottage home

The story's almost over now
And my tale is almost through
All because I followed my heart
Though I knew not what to do

For love I swam the distance
For love I braved the sea
For I love I brought her back from death
And brought her home to me
