Life Before Sunset

As I make my way

Through this sun-bleached landscape

Confused at my place

In this place

My head turned toward the sky

And a hand guarding my eyes

Content to feel alive

Forever alive

It dawns on me

That there's still so much walking

This journey

Won't be ending

Anytime soon

This burning

Won't be ending

Anytime soon

So I pass this time in daylight

And await the return of twillight

'Cause I know I can live for one night

So long as that nights tonight

But it seems so far away

Why'd I even stay awake?

But I'm still walking east

It's too bright to turn around

I'll just stick to my feet

Neither lost nor found

I'm on my own

And I'm alone

But I'll never hit the ground

It's not just me

Take this pain

I keep telling myself again and again

Question the sane

It's not just me

Pardon the strain

Don't condescend to mend the pretend

But it isn't easy to say

It's not just me

I'd rather complain

This isn't all in my head

Than change

And I'm still walking east

It's too bright to turn around

I'll just stick to my feet

Neither lost nor found

I'm on my own

But I'm not alone

And I never left the ground
