Love Is For Eternity
By Derrick Kissner
"What do you expect of me!?" Anger started to fill him.
"I don't expect anything of you." Her eyes filled with sadness. "And, please, do not yell at me."
He stared into her eyes waiting for them to betray her. Though they didn't, he started to wonder if she was telling him the truth. Maybe she really did love him, why would he doubt her now? She has never shown any sign of betrayal before? It was just some weird feeling; like there was something she wasn't telling him.
He brushed her cold pale cheek, he never found out why she was always cold; she was even colder than the night's air around them. She was beautiful; her long blonde hair fell elegantly over her shoulders, her dark mesmerizing emerald eyes shone brilliantly. The light of the full moon made her pale skin shone like diamonds. There was definitely something strange about her… though she shown no sign of lying, but he figured that there was no sense in questioning her any further.
"My love, is there something on your mind?" she asked. Her voice was smooth and melodious, but had the underlying formal tone and stilted vowels that were always there it was stronger when she was confused.
He found it kind of cute in its own way, yet no one spoke like she does anymore. "No, not really." He kept eye contact.
"Are you sure? It just seems like there is, but whatever you say. What would you like to do now before it gets too late?" She put her arms around his neck and brushed her lips softly over his. She put her hands through his short black and looked into hazel eyes, she always fell into his eyes when she looked upon them.
Her lips were as cold as winter, when they kissed his lips was fire against her icy lips, their kiss was so passionate but something told him that this wasn't meant to be.
She pulled back quickly and smiled angelically. "You did not answer my question. What would you like to do before it gets too late?" She looked into his eyes.
"What do you what to do? I really don't care what we do as long as I'm with you." He smiled and kissed her cheek. "So you decide and I'll be content with whatever you decided to do."
"I don't know… we've done almost everything a person can do." Her expression was thoughtful. "We could just go for a walk that would be nice, would it not?"
"Yes, that would be nice." He couldn't stop smiling at her. "How long would you like to walk for?"
"Well, that depends on how long you would like to walk with me." She stood beside him and held his hand.
"It's ten o'clock now and I have work tomorrow… so until eleven o'clock, sound good to you?" He looked at her; she was perfect in every way.
"That sounds lovely and I'll enjoy every second of it," she giggled lightly.
They started walking into the beautiful darkness, the sand from the beach seemed to glow in the moonlight, and she was glowing as well. There was no wind and the temperature was just right, the music of the waves washing up to the shore was easy on the ears. The scent of the ocean hung in the air. She loved the night. She had told him that several times before, though he was always in the mood to make her happy… he hated the night he had since he was a child.
"Are you tired yet, Eric?" She looked at him.
"Not even close," he lied.
"You wouldn't lie to me, would you?"
"Of course not, Emily, I'm really not tired, I will let you know when I am. Okay?" He kissed her warmly, though she remained cold.
"Okay." She got on her tiptoes to kiss his neck. "But you need your rest: so you will be going home soon, right?"
"Yes, I'll head home at eleven o'clock and no sooner, is that okay with you?" His voice was innocent sounding.
"Don't you give me that 'I'm all innocent' 'cause it isn't going to work." She was smiling and he knew that he had won.
She embraced him holding him tightly against her, she hoped never to let him go but she knew that she would have to until the next time they saw each other. He wrapped his big arms around and squeezed her gently, his smile couldn't get any bigger, though they have only been dating a few months: they loved each other. The last few moment that they had together they would enjoy because they would not see each other again until tomorrow night.
"It is time for you to be going, I'll see you tomorrow night." She brushed her lips lightly over his.
"Tomorrow night then." He kissed her forehead.
"I'll be counting the seconds until we meet. Goodnight, Eric." She gave him one last kiss; he shivered slightly when their lips met.
They part ways he didn't know where is went when he went home; she was one whom loved the night. He never saw her during the day because they both worked during the day, but when they both had days off from work they still met at night. He wondered why they never saw each other during the day. He turned his thoughts toward something more important, like what is was going to be like when they were together again.
When he got to his black pick-up truck, thought about giving her a ride home, but she always said no… so he didn't both to ask her tonight because he figured the answer would be the same as it always was. He started the truck and drove off to his place. On his way home he started to think about how they were complete opposites, they nothing in common except for a few hobbies, but most importantly: she loved the night and he loved the day… opposites he kept telling himself, but that didn't changed the fact his feeling for her. Then he remembered the argument they had earlier that night, he was furious with her, but when he looked into her eyes he wasn't angry anymore. Why was that? Something he couldn't figure out but he would consider asking the next time they were together.
When he got back to his apartment he went to take a shower before bed. When he was done with his shower threw on a pair of boxers and got into his felt, he winced at the icy chill under the covers. He was thinking of her as he drifted off to sleep.
He awoke startled by his alarm clock, the clock read six o'clock and he had thirty minutes to get ready for work. It was sunny out this morning not a cloud in sight, there was a light breeze carrying many kinds of scents. His mind could only think of one scent… her scent. She was on his mind since the moment he awoke from sleep.
He lived in a four-room apartment; he went to bathroom to do his morning routine, the bathroom walls were painted white as well as the ceiling. Then he headed to the kitchen to get some coffee; the walls were painted green and the ceiling red. He rushed out of his apartment in a great hurry; he shut the door behind him swiftly. He went to his truck and started it up.
He drove off to work, he worked at a construction site and he works for ten to thirteen hours it was a tiring job, she was the only reason he got threw it. When he was able to be by her side again, he smiled at the future moment. He arrived to his work a little early so he decided to get something to eat before it was time to work.
The day was long and hard the work alone was stressing him out, but he thought of her and that took all of his suffering away. They other guys he works with were staring at weirdly because in the blazing sun and with all the hard work they were doing; he had a smile on his face. His thoughts were distracted by her he swung the hammer, but he missed the nail and hit his hand. He heard a loud crack coming from his hand.
He had to be rushed to the hospital just in case he broke his hand. When he arrived at the hospital it was swarming with people. The walls, floor, and ceiling were white. It would be awhile before he would receive attention because earlier that day a car hit a little boy. Eric went up to the nurse's station and signed in. A nurse walked up to Eric and handed him an icepack to keep the swelling down.
"We'll try to get you in as soon as we can, all right." The nurse's voice was kind and gentle.
"Okay, do you know how long it will be?"
"I don't exactly know, but not too long," she said. "Just keep the ice on it."
He sat there waiting to be called to the back. It was noisy in the hospital, children who had come down with a serious flu virus were crying, the smell of the place was that weird clean scent that actually smelled horrible. After four hours he was finally called, he rose to his feet and walked back with another nurse.
"Eric, I'm Nick. What are we treating you for today?" the hefty male nurse asked.
"I hit my hand with a hammer." Eric showed him his and winced as he raised his hand.
"That looks like it hurts. Okay, are you allergic to anything?"
"Not that I know of."
"All right, are you taking any kind of medicine for anything?"
"Okay, let's get your vitals." Nick took Eric's blood pressure and his temperature.
"Okay. So we can give you something for the pain, and the doctor will check your hand over then you can go home."
"Can I still work?"
"I can't say for sure, you'll have to ask the doctor when he sees you." His voice was deep with a hint of irritation.
"Thank you, when will I see the doctor?" Eric asked him.
"I don't know he is with some else at the moment. Probably twenty minutes or so, not too long."
"Thank you, again."
Eric got out of the seat and walked back out into the waiting room. The noise had not gotten quite it was just as loud. It was giving him a headache. Finally he was called back so the doctor could see him, the doctor retook his vitals they were still normal, which was good. The doctor has white hair, brown eyes. His deep voice was husky.
"Hello, Eric, I am Doctor Henderson. So you messed your hand up, I see."
"Er, yeah. What am I suppose to do? Will I be able to work still?"
"I don't know, by the look of it you will to keep ice on your hand for at least three days, then, maybe you can start using it again," he explained. "Do you have a family doctor?"
"No, I rarely get sick and if I do it isn't that bad."
"Okay. Well, you will have to come back and see me in three days, when you come back I can determine whether or not you can work. How does your hand feel? Are you in any kind of pain?" He examined Eric's hand.
"Yeah, it hurts," He winced when the doctor touched his hand.
"On a scale from one to ten rate your pain."
"Seven," Eric said.
"Okay, I'm going to give you some pain medicine. Are you allergic to anything, mainly pain medicine?" Doctor Henderson asked.
"Not that I know of," he answered.
"That's good, let me know if you have a allergic reaction to the medication. Okay?" He smiled warmly.
"Okay." Eric was ready to get out of the hospital.
"All right, I'll get your discharge paper around and then you can leave. Just sit tight and you'll be out of here soon." He gave Eric a quick smile before leaving the room.
Eric sat up just waiting for them to let him go, to him he had better things to do than sit in a hospital for hours. He was excited to know that he would have to be here for thirty minutes at the most. He would be with her soon; he couldn't help but smile at the thought. And the more he thought about her the giddier he had gotten. He had been waiting twenty minutes when the nurse came in.
"You're a lucky one, you're getting out of here early." She smiled.
"Thanks," he laughed.
Eric took his papers and got his medicine then he went home to sleep. He awoke hours later when he realized what time it was he jumped out of bed. He took a shower and got changed then got in his truck and went to their favorite place in the world: the beach. It was the middle of summer and it was kind of chilly outside. Though Oregon was a weird state at times.
It was sixty degrees outside; he was wearing black jeans, black t-shirt, and a pair of black boots. It was a little too chilly for him he preferred warm weather, that's why he loved living in Phoenix Arizona the weather in his opinion was perfect. But in this state the weather changes all the time he found it to be annoying, though at the same time he was happy to move here because he met her. It was the last night of the full moon and it was another cloudless night.
He would enjoy walking with her down the beach like the night before. He got to thinking he hadn't called her to tell what he did to his hand; he hoped that she didn't think that he blew her off. He has never missed any of their dates before, why would he now? He shook his head he knew she would understand. He gripped the steering wheel with his bad hand it flared up with pain; he had forgotten to take his pain medicine when he left the apartment. And now he was paying for it, his hand was in agony.
She was waiting for him when he pulled into the parking lot, she was sitting on a bench with a smile on her face, the smile he love to see. He got out of his truck; she rose to her feet and elegantly walked over to him. For a moment it looked like she was dance when she moved she always had a graceful way of doing it.
"How are you this evening, my dear?" She flashed him that amazing smile he loved.
"Could be better," he said.
He raised his hand to her. "I hurt my hand at work… and I have to go back in three days until then I can't go to work."
"Does it hurt?" She wrapped his hand between her icy hands.
"Yeah, I didn't take my medicine because when I woke up after getting back from the hospital, I realized that I was late for our date so I took a shower and rushed out of my apartment. I'm so sorry for being late. Can you forgive me?" He gave her a quick kiss.
"I care not when you got here as long as you are here, do not worry about time, Eric. I have plenty of time." She smiled and kissed him for a few minutes.
The night air wrapped around them, though the night was cold so was she, as always her temperature was at freezing point. The pale moonlight made her skin shine gorgeously like diamonds. Her beauty like always stunned him, he knew that she was a rare girl to find and he was happy that she was his and he was hers. And nothing would ever change that, though he did feel that their relationship was never meant to be.
"Would you like to go for a walk down the beach?" He asked.
"Yes, of course I would." She smiled.
He took her hand and started to walk down the beach, the scent of the ocean, the pale gold sand beneath their feet, and of course the moonlight just set the mood for a romantic walk.
"Damn, it's really cold for being the middle of summer." He was shivering and his teeth almost started to chatter.
"I know, it is weird, is it not?" She looked up at him.
"Yeah, this is why I miss Phoenix it's always warm there, the temperature rarely drops below eighty degrees… it's wonderful. But here you never know what the weather is going to be like. So what would you like to do after the walk? You could back to my place since I don't have work tomorrow, wouldn't that be nice?" He embraced her then kissed her on the neck.
"Yes, that does sound intriguing but what about your hand, should you not have rest?" She looked into his eyes hers were shinning like jewels.
"I'll get rest, Emily don't worry about that. So are you interested?" He tightened his gripped of her.
"Yes, I would be interested. When do you want to head back to your place?" She rested her against his shoulder.
"When we're done with our walk, is that okay?" he asked.
"Of course it is. I'm glad that we get to spend this time together, but most importantly I am spending it with you and that is all that really matters." She looked into his eyes. "But I might not get to see you tomorrow night, so… let's make this night a special one something to remember, okay?" She voice was like a lullaby, though it had a tint of sadness.
"You sound like I'll never see you again." He looked at her.
"Perhaps you will not then again, you might, who knows?"
A silence fell between them. They continued to walk down the beach, still holding each other's hand. The night seemed to be playing a beautiful symphony, yet the sorrow that it held. With the ocean, the wind, and animal's howls the symphony was a dazzling sound on the ears. Emily facial expression held such dread that it made Eric wonder what was going on. Though he wasn't going to ask her what was on her mind, probably because she would give him an 'it's nothing do not worry about it'.
Of course he'd worry because he loved her and would do anything for her, though there were times when she didn't share his feelings with him and that bothered him.
She stopped walking and looked up at him. "Are you all right? Is there something on your mind?"
"Yeah, there is but I don't know if I can explain it," he said.
"What do you mean can't explain?" she asked.
"Exactly how it sounds, I don't think I could explain it right for me to tell you. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"I do understand what you are saying… could I take a guess as to what is going on in that mind of yours?"
"I suppose," he said.
"Is it because of what I just told you a few moments ago? If it is, do not worry, my love, for as long as I can I will always be by your side and nothing will interfere with that. So do not worry, okay?" She kissed him. "So I am yours as long as you want me to be yours, I love you." She kissed him again.
"I love you too," he said when their lips parted for a second.
They were near the end of their walk and it was getting late, so they decided to head back to his apartment. They went to his truck he opened the passenger side door for her and when she was in the truck he shut the door. Then he got into the truck and started the engine he started driving to his place. He was tapping his hands nervously on the steering wheel; Emily glanced at him from time to time.
"Would you like to listen to some music?" he asked.
"Sure, what do you have to listen to?"
"I have Disturbed, Evans Blue, Papa Roach, and so many more. You can look at the other ones if you like." He voice was nothing but a soft murmur.
"What's your favorite to listen to?" Her singsong voice was quite.
"Disturbed, but lately I have been listening to Evans Blue they're an awesome band." He smiled.
"Then we will listen to Evans Blue." She rubbed her hand down his arm. "Were are your CDs?"
"I'll get them." He reached over to the glove compartment, he opened it and pulled out his CD holder then he shut the glove compartment. "Here you go their CDs should be in the first few rows." He handed her the CD holder.
"Thank you." Her tone was very polite.
"You're welcome," he replied.
She pulled out the CD and put it into the CD player then turned it up loud enough so she could still hear him speak. When they were halfway down the road he shivered, it was cold in the truck, which was odd.
"Are you cold?"
"No, why are you?" She looked down at her lap.
"Yeah, I am. Do you mind if I turn on the heat?"
"No, I do not mind." He turned the heat onto high and pointed a couple of the vents on him. "If you get too hot let me know."
She nodded and looked out the window. He was starting to warm up he went to hold her hand, but quickly pulled his hand away because the space around her was cold. He put his hand back on the steering wheel, he wanted to so badly ask her the questions that were on his mind, but thought it to be inappropriate to ask such things. If she wanted him to know she would have told him already, right? Maybe he might have to pry once in a while, he would have let it go but there was something not right about her body temperature. It were freezing all the time, he couldn't remember a time when she ever felt warm… she was just cold like dead cold.
"Do you want to ask me something?" She gaze was set on him and her voice quite.
"Um, no," he lied.
"Are you sure? Because it looks like you want to ask me something, but if you say no then all right." She smiled that smile he loved. "Well, if you ever want to ask me something do not hesitate to ask, okay?"
"I know, I just feel uncomfortable about asking you questions to things that you don't tell me without me asking, that's all."
"Well, I have told you so much of me that I just figured you start asking me questions. I will let it go for now, but I want you to know that you can ask me anything, I want you to ask me stuff because I will do the same." She smiled and chuckled lightly. "And when we get to your apartment I want a kiss."
"That sounds good to me." He winked at her and she smiled.
"Are you trying to get me to blush?"
"Maybe," he said. "Yes, I am is it working?"
"So how is your hand doing?" She was trying to change the subject.
"It hurts, but other than that, it's okay." He took his left hand of the steering wheel and rested it on his lap. "I'll probably have to take my medication when I get back." His was sad about that.
"Is that a bad thing?" she asked.
"Yes. It makes me sleepy and I don't want to fall asleep anytime soon." He looked at her for second then he looked back at the road.
"Well, if you do you do and that is that." She smiled and rubbed his arm.
She sat back and let the music wash over her, she was in a relax state. He was happy that he was almost back to his apartment because his hand was burning with pain. He pulled into the parking lot and turned off the engine. He got out of the truck first then he rushed over to the other side of the truck, so he could open her door for her. She couldn't wait for them to get in his apartment for them to kiss. She pressed her lips to his their kiss was soft and short.
"We will continue this when we get inside," she said with a smile.
Without saying a word he walk her to his apartment, he live on the second story. The floors were covered in green carpet, the walls were white, and the ceiling was white. His apartment was almost exactly the same as the hallway. He unlocked his door and opened it, with his hand he gestured her in. He shut the door behind them and turned on the television.
"I'll be right back," he whispered.
He went into the kitchen and grabbed an icepack then headed to the bathroom. Emily sat on the couch she was watching the news, tonight's report was about the violent killing of three teenagers. They were ripped apart by some sort of animal they were partially eaten. And the second report was about the weather, that is should not be this cold in the middle of summer for Oregon.
She was sitting there with the strangest look on her face when he came into the room.
"Are you okay, Emily?" His voice was concerned.
"Yeah…. Did you know that three teenagers were partially eaten? And that the weather isn't right for this time of year?" She looked at him with widened eyes.
"No, I didn't. That's terrible those poor kids and what about their parents? There are some sick people in this world." His facial expression was disgusted.
"They said it was some kind of animal, besides humans don't eat people."
"Cannibals do, who's to say that a cannibal didn't do this?" He looked at her with his left eyebrow raised.
"Well, for starters there isn't any cannibals around here, and secondly they said that they were animal bite. So they were eaten by some kind of animal… I wonder what kind of animal around could do such a thing like that. Why are we even discussing something like this?" She grimaced at the conversation.
"I beg to differ, there could possibility well be cannibals around here, and they could just be saying that they were animals when in fact it was cannibal."
"Eric, have I ever told you that you are weird?" She tried to hold back a smile.
"No…." He looked at the floor and frowned.
"Aw, do not frown, your weird in a good way, I think." She smiled at him.
She stood up and walked over to him, he embraced her and she held him tightly against her. She pressed her lips to his chest she knew that she had to go home, but she didn't know how to break it to him. She also knew that he would be upset, but she had to leave. Emily has a secret that she is kept from him, that secret is the only reason she has to leave.
"Eric…." She looked up at him sadness in her eyes. "I have to take my leave, I am sorry that I could not stay longer."
"Why… why do you have to leave? I thought you were going to be here for a while. I was going make you dinner…." He held her tightly. "Can't you stay a little while longer?"
"I'm sorry, I cannot." Sadness filled her voice. "If I could stay I would, but unfortunately I cannot." She brushed her lips over his.
"I guess I can understand. Will I see you tomorrow night or possibly during the day?"
"During the day… probably not, possibly tomorrow night."
"Would you like me to drive you home?" Or course he already knew the answer.
"No, I am fine," she said.
"I figured you'd say that, I don't even know why I bother to ask. I love you, Emily." He kissed her forehead.
"I love you too, Eric." She kissed his cheek.
She smiled that he loved to see and she left his apartment. When she was outside she closed her eyes and took a deep breath in she held it for a moment before she exhaled. The sky was still clear and the full moon was shinning down on her, the temperature was still cold.
"It has been a long time since I have seen you, dear Emily." The man's voice was like silk and it had the same accent she did. He jet black hair, pale blue eyes and he wore all black.
"Yes, it has Adrian." She opened her eyes to look at him. "Pray tell, what brings you here?"
"Can't an old friend come to visit just to say hello?" He smiled wickedly.
"You are not the type to just say hello. What are you doing here?" She demanded an answer because she knew that his presence wasn't a good thing.
"I am here on business," he said.
"I quickly tire of you playing coy." She felt the anger building up in her. "Goddamn it, why are you here? Is it because of those teenagers being eaten? And how many are with you?" She crossed her arms and started tapping her foot.
"And what makes you think that I have to answer to you? Silly girl, you have no right to question me, but I know I have the right to question you. What are you doing with a mortal? You know that it is forbidden, right?" He looked at her with disappointment.
"That is none of your business besides you refuse to answer me, so why should I be incline to answer you?" She glared at him.
"Well, since you refuse to answer me, I will just go have a talk with that boy, I know he'll answer me. And when you find his lifeless body you will know that you could have avoided it just by simply answering me." He smiled again this time he flashed his fangs at her.
"You would not dare lay a finger on him!" She doubled up her fist.
"Aye, I would dare and you know that all too well. Would you doubt me?"
"I know, you would and you do not care who you hurt in the process because you are a self-centered bastard!" She unclenched her fist because she was tired of arguing with him. "Please, Adrian, how many are with you?"
"My entire covenant," he said proudly.
"That would explain why the weather has gotten colder. Will you and your covenant be leaving soon?" Her voice held some venom.
"I wish I could but there is a problem that has to be taken care of before I take my leave. Those teenagers were eaten by lycanthropes and until they agree to go back into hiding. Or we annihilate all of them is completely up to them to decide." He smiled at the thought of killing them.
"Violent as ever aren't we, Adrian?" she asked.
"It is in my nature and you cannot change what is in your nature, would I be right, Emily?"
"I have changed…." Those were the only words she managed to say.
"Well, I have a meeting to attend. Don't worry I will come back to see you. Dear lady, I must take my leave."
In one moment he disappeared off into the shadows, the secret that she had kept from Eric was that she was a vampire. She just didn't know how to tell him, he probably wouldn't believe her at first. But she would show him what she really was and he would leave her, the man she loved would leave and she would be alone. Eternity is so lonely already that she could not bear it to be alone again.
It was forbidden to turn him into her kind.
She didn't know what to do he would eventually figure out something wasn't right when he aged and she remained the same. She almost decided to walk back up to his apartment and tell him everything, like what she really was, why she never saw him during the day… but she wouldn't because she was a coward.
Why can't I tell him? Those words kept running through her head.
She went to the beach where she could think clearly, she knew that she wouldn't be bothered and would all the time to think. When she arrived at the beach the scent that was floating in the air was a scent she knew all too well… the scent of death. The sand a golden color with a tint of blue, the water was black that reflected the moonlight onto the shore.
She tracked the scent down what she found was something she was hoping to avoid. It was a lycanthrope she could probably take it, but it would be costly. The lycanthrope looked up at her, the entrails of a teenage boy fell from its mouth. It snarled at her, she bared her fangs and hissed at it.
"You filthy dog!" she yelled as she balled her fist.
The lycanthrope leaped at her she pivoted to the side and jumped onto its back and started ripping at it with her razor-sharp nails then she bit its neck, it instantly threw her off its back. She landed hard on the ground hard, but she was back to her feet quickly. She ran up to the lycanthrope and kicked it in the jaw, breaking it. It cut her gut with its claws. She ran to its side and started beating its ribs in; she broke all of its ribs on its right side. It howled in terrible and fled she smirked as it ran off. But she was hurt and she knew she wouldn't make it back to her place; she would have to go back to his place.
She hoped that she wouldn't run into another lycanthrope because she wasn't for sure if she could take on another. She started running which for someone like her would take only a couple minutes to arrive at Eric's apartment. She walked up the stairs to his apartment door; she knocked three times on the door. He opened the door and a huge smile curved his lips when he saw it was Emily.
"What are you doing here I thought you had to go home?" He was still smiling.
"Eric, we need to talk it is of the greatest importance," she said.
He still wondered why at time she talks with that accent. "Okay… what do 'we' need to talk about?" He expression was puzzled.
"…Well, I have not been completely honest as a matter of fact I have been distrustful." Her face was covered in shame. "I have lied to you, Eric, I am not who I say I am. I am not a person, not human… I am sorry that I did not tell you this sooner, but I was afraid what would happen if I did…." Tears fell down her cheek. "Eric, I am a…." She couldn't bear to breathe the word.
"Emily, what are you talking about what you're saying isn't making any sense, what do you mean you're not human? Please, don't cry. I… I don't get what is going on here, are you playing some kind of joke?" He embraced her then he kissed her forehead.
She pushed him away. "Listen to me, Eric! I am a… vampire there I said it." The tears came harder. "I can understand if you wish not to see me again."
He laughed so hard his stomach started to hurt. "Are you messing with me? Come on, you have to be messing with me, vampires don't exist they are myth. But hey, that was a good one, though." He was laughing so hard that he was crying.
"Eric, this is not a joke… you foolish boy! Fine, you do not wish to believe me then I have no choice but to prove it to you." She pulled back her upper lip and grew her fangs.
He jumped back startled. "What the fuck!? What the hell was that, Emily?"
"I told you that I was a… vampire but you refuse to believe me, so I had no choice but to show you." She reached her arms out for him to embrace her.
"Emily… is that why you're always cold no matter what? And is it also why I never see you during the day?" He took a step back.
"Yes…." That is all she could say. "I will take my leave, but before I go I just wanted to say that: I love you and I will miss you so very much. Goodbye, Eric." Before he could say a word she disappeared like a flash of lightning.
"EMILY!!" he yelled.
She went back to the beach where she figured Adrian might be and, of course he was there waiting for her with a smile on his face. She was hurt, angry, and tired. She walked up to him slowly she so badly wanted to rip his black un-beating from his chest. But she wouldn't because there was nobody else but him. He knew it and she knew it, but neither of them would say it out loud.
"What happen, my dear, did the mortal not like your true side the thing that you really are? What a shame you two made such a cute couple; I guess he wasn't man enough to stay with you. Who needs him, Emily when you have someone like me, who will be there for all of eternity?" He looked at her and smiled wickedly.
The night was still young, the moonlight made them glow like diamonds. She didn't know what to do, what she take Adrian up on his offer? Or would she find Eric and find out what he feels? All she could do was fall to her knees and cry there was nothing else she could do. He was at her side holding her and as much as she tried she couldn't push him away.
"You need me more than ever you realize this, right?" He kissed her cheek. "I can be there for you like no other, especially a mortal." He was whispering in her ear.
"Get away from me." She tried again to push him away, but failed.
They heard howling in the distance they both looked at where it was coming from. They both rose to their feet, the lycanthropes were coming back to avenge the one Emily hurt, by their guess it was a pack of seven. They both knew that by themselves couldn't take a pack that big… they might as well just laid down and offer themselves as a meal. It would be a few minutes before they would find Emily and Adrian.
A moment later a black pick-up truck pulled into the beach's parking lot. Eric got out of his car and ran over to Emily, he started to stumble now and again when his feet hit the sand. Adrian rolled his eyes at the mortal that ran towards them.
She turned to face him when she caught his scent. "No, Eric! Get out of here it is not safe for you."
"No. I was stupid… I mean I don't really believe in vampires but I believe in what I saw. And I just wanted you to know that I love you too and I don't want you to leave. Emily, please stay with me for as long as you can." He was within ten feet of her when Adrian stepped in front of her.
"Foolish boy, think you can be with her, nay. I refuse it and what I say is law." He bared his fangs and hissed.
"What gives you the right to tell her what she can and can't do? I think you should let her make her own decision." He swallowed it felt like that was a hard lump in his throat.
Emily went to say something but Adrian interrupted. "Brave words boy, but you are merely a mortal. What can you do for her? Nothing that is right."
"Wrong. I can love her the way she deserves to be loved," Eric said.
"That might be true but how long will you be around to love her? Fifty year or less depending if you take ill. Now, I will be here long after you die… I am forever." Adrian smiled wickedly.
"Fine, then make me into one of you." He tightened his hands into fist.
"That is forbidden only a select few may become what we are, and I would be damned to let you join us." He hissed again.
"We have not time to waste here on this stupid quarrel, the lycanthropes are upon us. Adrian and I cannot take them… we will be lucky to kill a couple of them. Adrian where is your covenant? Why are they not here?" She looked at Adrian.
"I forgot to mention that most of my covenant was annihilated a few hours ago. The reason why I am here and not them is because I smelt you blood and came to investigate."
"Can't the three of us take them?" Eric asked them.
"Do you even know what a lycanthrope is, boy?" Adrian asked him.
"No, not really." He answered.
"They are lycanthropes and they can only be killed by a silver bullet. Though I have heard of another way of killing them but it is untested, some say a vampire's bite is lethal to a lycanthrope and vice versa."
Before they could finish their conversation the lycanthropes surrounded them. Emily ran in front of Eric and took a defensive stance; she bared her fangs and hissed. The lycanthropes snarled at her, they saw fresh warm meat and they were going to kill anything that would dare stop them.
Adrian squared off with four of them and Emily took the other three. Adrian dropkicked the one in front of him then snapped the neck of the one to his right. The one behind him jumped and latched onto his shoulder, he screamed in pain he started punching the beast in the face until it would let him free, and it did after a few minutes. The next one leaped at Adrian he jumped over and landed on his head. One by one would attack him sometimes two of them would attack him. And he would have to defend them off if he was going to survive much longer. He could feel his strength diminish and if the rest of covenant didn't come, hope would be lost to them.
Emily wasn't doing much better she barely could handle to of them let alone three. Plus she had to keep Eric safe at all cost. Emily jumped toward the one to her left she climbed onto its back and started biting it viciously and after biting it for the tenth time it howled and fell to the ground dead. The lycanthrope transformed back into a human… she was young in her twenties.
Adrian had already taken two down and he barely had it in him to take down the other two. The only thing he prayed for was that there was no more of them. He knew all to well that if came they would fall. He smiled when he picked up the scent of his covenant they would this night. He ran over to Emily and Eric, to Eric it seem that he was gracefully dancing over to him.
The last four lycanthropes regrouped ready for another attack. Adrian and Emily took two more down one for each of them. Two lycanthropes remained they raised their heads up to the moon and howled; when they stopped the silence came upon them… a moment later they heard howls in the distance.
"Adrian, we have no chance against more of them, we should kill these two and make a run for it." Emily looked at him.
"No, we stay and fight. You may run if you like, but mortal stays with me." He smiled at her. "Besides the rest of my covenant will be arriving soon, three minutes or so."
They rest of the vampires and lycanthropes arrived at the same time. There were two males and one female vampire that arrived. Ten more lycanthropes arrived shortly after the vampires there were ten in this pack.
"Sorry it took us so long," said Victor, his name is Victor.
"Is this the last of them?" Tanya asked her name is Tanya.
"Sir, what do we do with the mortal?" Nash asked his name is Nash.
"I think so but I cannot be for sure, do you think we can handle this? As for the mortal I will decide his fate when this battle is over."
They nodded Emily gestured Eric to go to his truck but he refused to leave her side. The three vampires stood in front of Adrian and Emily, they really didn't care about the mortal because to them he was just cattle. The final fight was about to begin, though with the way they fight it looks more like they are dancing than fighting. But the blood and the dismembered body part prove it's a fight to the death.
The beautiful lethal dance was about to begin as they charged one another. Nash and Tanya attack one of the lycanthropes they started biting it moments later it fell to the ground dead, when the lycanthrope turned back into a human it was a man in his early thirties. The vampires didn't care who they were they would them nonetheless.
Eric found this to be sickening them were humans, they showed no sadness, no remorse for what they were doing. But what made him the sickest was that the women he loved was slaughtering these poor people. He didn't know if he could ever look at her the same, not after this it was too much for him to comprehend. His mind was racing so fast that he tell what his actual thoughts were.
Three lycanthropes jumped on Nash and ripping him apart, first they ripped his legs off then his arms one ripped his throat out. They knew that he wasn't going to recover from his wounds, especially since their bite was just as lethal as there is towards them. Tanya ran up to the lycanthropes cutting them with her claws, she climbed onto the one lycanthrope's back and started biting it. She ripped at its flesh the lycanthrope howled it horrific pain.
When the lycanthrope fell to the ground dead the other two would have killed her if it weren't for Adrian, he snapped the neck of the lycanthrope closest to him then bit the other one. When that one fell dead before his feet he went back to the one whose neck he broke.
"Tanya, watch yourself do not be reckless unless you seek death." He looked at her his tone stern. "I cannot watch you back all the time."
"But they fucking dog killed my Nash," she sobbed.
"I know, but I need you now clear minded, can you do that?"
"Good," he said. "Where is Victor?"
"I don't know." She started to cry.
"Stop this foolishness right this instants, do I have myself clear." He looked at her.
She nodded and went on fighting he felt saddened that he had to say what he said, because Nash was her soul mate but there was no time for weakness. Because her death would be only outcome, they took down a few more lycanthropes. There were only five of them left and with four against five Adrian felt like they could win the fight.
But one of the lycanthropes bypassed Emily and knocked Eric to the ground and bit his shoulder he screamed in terrible pain too much for him to handle, he managed to punch the lycanthrope a couple times but it didn't phase it. Emily cut the lycanthrope's throat with her claw the lycanthrope's wound bled into Eric's wound… Emily didn't notice what happen she was preoccupied with killing the lycanthrope. After she bit it and it fell to the ground dead, she rushed over to Eric.
The moonlight gave a silver tint to his red blood.
"Are you okay, my love?" She was holding back her tears.
"Yes… but it hurts like hell and it burns." He was gasping for air. "What is going to happen to me, Emily?"
I don't know," she answered.
They heard Victor scream before he fell into the eternal silence. Adrian and Tanya were the only ones standing between them and the lycanthropes. Two verses four easily enough to take out but Adrian's strength was completely gone and Tanya was rage-crazed that made her useless. Adrian attacked another lycanthrope as did Tanya, he slashed at it, it threw him to the ground it bit him ripping the flesh from his body.
Emily left Eric's side for a minute to finish off the rest of these creatures; she ripped the throat out of the one that was attacking Adrian with her fangs. Shadows in the night, the dance of death was almost over and few would survive it. The night air carried the scent of blood and sorrow, the golden sand redden with blood. The last three lycanthropes attacked Tanya, one came up behind and ripped her arm off blood sprayed it in the face, another came and ripped her leg off and the last one beheaded her and ate her head.
Adrian got on his knees sand was sticking to the blood on his skin, he manage to make to his feet. The strength it took to walk he didn't have to give, but he would fight until they killed him. Emily could do her fair share of killing. There was only three left, Emily attacked ripping and gashing the one lycanthrope to her right. Adrian took the to the left and when they killed them. They both attacked the last one they ripped its legs off then bit it to finish it off.
When it transformed back into a human what they saw isn't what they expected. It was the dismembered body of an eight-year-old boy. But in their eyes it was a filthy dog and nothing less. Emily ran back to Eric, Adrian limped his way over to they.
"What happened here?" Adrian asked.
"He was bit by that Goddamn dog…." She pointed to the human corpse lying on the ground. "What will happen to him? Will he be all right?"
"Aye, as long as he didn't drink its blood or let any spill into his wound, he will stay just the way he is." Adrian looked at Eric. "Did any blood fall into your wound?"
"Not… that… I know of…." He was still gasping for air, Emily helped him to his feet.
"Adrian, now that the fight is over I need to tell you something. I wish to be with him and before you say anything I know it is forbidden to change him. But that doesn't mean that I cannot be with him." She looked at Eric and smiled that smile he loves. "I am not asking I am telling you that I will be staying with him and if you dare to lay a hand on him I will kill you where you stand."
"Emily, we both know you will not kill me, so why make threats? It is pointless and as for the mortal you may stay with him, as long as you do not change him. Meanwhile I will replenishing my covenant, you are free to join me." He smiled wickedly.
"No. And, please, try not to visit again." Her tone was gentle.
"I cannot make any promises." He laughed.
He was gone in a second, now Eric and Emily would start a new life though Eric had lied but he was afraid of losing her. Little did he know that would his biggest mistake because when the lycanthrope's blood mixed with his, he became one of them. One month later the first night of the full moon they went for a romantic walk down the beach, they each other's hand. It was beautiful night the air was warm, the scent of the ocean was sweet, and the silver bluish light that made everything so much more gorgeous. The moonlight made her shine like diamonds.
Every night he would remember the lie he told to keep her, but he thought if he told them the truth that she would leave him… or worse kill him. He regretted it for lying to the woman he loved but in his eyes he had no choice.
She suspected a thing she didn't notice a change in his scent, so she figure that they could have the rest of his life together, but one thing did come across her mind a lot. What happens when he dies what is she suppose to do? She was scared to lose him and thought of breaking the rules more than once. But she wouldn't because not only would they kill her but they would also kill him.
He turned to her he looked into her eyes, and then kissed her passionately then he pulled away from her.
"I love you, Emily, I have always loved you and though I can't spend the rest of eternity with you. I be content spending the rest of my life with you and I'll love you the way you deserve to be loved. And to let you know if you ever want to break the rules, you can I wouldn't mind being like you." He brushed his lips over her.
"No, Eric, I cannot break the rules because they would kill us both. I could not risk it, I do not wish you dead and therefore you will remain human." She looked into his eyes. "I love you too much to let you die, Eric, will you be mine always?" She embraced him.
"Of course, what would make you think otherwise?"
"Do you promise?"
He at to laugh at what she just asked. "Yes, Emily, I promise to be yours always."
They kissed, he pulled away from her agony covered his face. She put her hands at his shoulder but he pushed her away then fell to his knees, he gripped his sides the pain was couldn't be describe as to how bad it really was. He felt like he was on fire and it seem his insides were changing.
"Eric, what is the matter? Are you okay?" She was hurting because he was hurting.
All he could do is scream and in one single moment he transformed into a lycanthrope. Emily backed away in fear she couldn't believe that Eric had lied to her, though she knew the reason why. But his lie was costly and now it was kill or be killed. As the tears fell she took her stance, but she could do it she couldn't kill him because she loved him too much to do something like that.
"Eric, please, stop this you do not wish to harm me…." She couldn't hold back the tears.
He howled at her and jumped at her, he was so quick that she couldn't defend herself. Not that she would want to. He slowly ripped the flesh from her body, she screamed in horrific pain. He gashed her stomach open with his teeth then he started eating her entrails. He ripped her legs off, her arms off, and threw them aside.
"I love you, Eric… and you… will be mine always…." That was all she could say with her dying breath.
He awoke the next morning to her mutilated body, he moved away from her the tears blurred his vision. What had he done? Kill the only woman he loved and could ever love. He would spend the rest of his life remembering what he did, the sick, disgusting, and morbid deed. The nightmares, her taste would be forever stuck in his mouth. He could wait until he was old an gray and death would come for him… but would he didn't realize is that he is immortal.
His life would last forever and love is for eternity….
