Summary: "I hate you." He told me openly as we sat inside our classroom. "Aw. I hate you too sweetheart." I replied sharply. And then, moments later, when the class had flied out, he turned towards me and pushed me against the wall and kissed me senseless. (One-shot)

"I hate you."

I looked over to the voice and smiled softly. Of course he hated me; it was just something that was meant to happen sooner or later. I looked over at my best friend, Sophia who was watching us carefully and she shook her head when she heard him utter those three words. She had expected something along the lines of: "I love you." But we were not going to ever love each other… in public. That sounded incredibly wrong. But not like that! Mind out of gutter, Cassidy.

"Aw. I hate you too, sweetheart." I replied sharply.

Sophia shook her head again and turned back to her work. "You guys! Please refrain from the harshness that you're giving each other. We just try to get along here, since we're all friends."

"How can I possibly be her friend?" Bryant questioned Sophia. I glared at him. "She's annoying, Sophia."

"Bryant, be nice."

"Yeah Bryant! Be nice!" I mocked. "Sophia, give it up."

"I just want you guys to be friends! I don't understand why you guys can't be friends… I mean everybody else is friends, but you're just, not." Sophia explained as she wrote down some notes.

I sighed. "Just let us be."

"Yeah! We have a very strange friendship, but both have made it clear that we hate each other," Bryant said confidently and Sophia shook her head.

"You guys are hopeless."

"Nuh-uh!"

"Yeah, I agree with her, even though I don't like her!"

"Shuddup!"

"Cass, Bryant, give it up."

"NO!" We shouted in unison and Sophia shook her head again. "Stop it!"

"Jinx!" Bryant shouted childishly. "You owe me a coke."

I glared at him and turned my attention back to my note card, paying no attention to Bryant and Sophia flirting shamelessly. "Give it a rest you guys, stop flirting or else you'll give me brain damage!"

"Too late," he commented. "But why do you care? Are you jealous?"

"Pft." I shouted and Sophia looked at my sudden burst. "Jealous of you and Sophia?! Okay, definitely not. First off, I would never be jealous of you because if you haven't gotten the memo – I hate you. So therefore, I would never be jealous." I ended pathetically, but it was all I could basically give, right now.

Bryant laughed. "That's all? I thought you would comeback with something better then that."

"Shut up!" I yelled.

"Bitch."

"Bastard."

"Loser."

"Brat!"

"You…" Bryant sighed in defeat. "Whatever, I don't have time for this, the bell is going to ring in like two seconds and I don't feel like putting up with your shit right now, Cassidy."

I shrugged and looked at Sophia who was fingering her flawless blonde hair. I glared at her jealously, she had beautiful blonde hair and I wanted it, I was stuck with just my light brown hair, that was okay, but not as good as blonde hair. I looked at the clock as the bell rang and Sophia and everybody else bolted from the room, even the teacher bolted. As soon as the door closed and there was nobody looking, I stood up and was pushed roughly against the wall near a corner of the room that was out of view from the windows.

He roughly kissed my lips and wrapped his arms firmly around my waist. "Love you," he muttered in between kisses. "So much, Cassidy."

"I know," I said as he gently placed kisses against my neck. "Love you too."

"I don't understand," he stated gently once he had stopped kissing me senseless. I could barely feel my limbs or features anymore after he had finished kissing me. "Why we have to pretend like that, you don't know how much it wounds me to call you those names, Cassie."

I looked down sheepishly. "Sorry."

"Tell me again, why we have to do that." He pleaded as he kissed my cheeks and my lips once or twice… or a million times. Bryant could do that forever and I wouldn't care. I would be completely happy.

"Just…" I stopped for a second. "Think of what everybody will say! Sophia has believed that we hate each other. We can't just all of a sudden start loving each other. And you know that Sophia likes you Bryant, I couldn't just hurt her like that. She's my best friend."

"But it would be so much easier." Bryant complained. "I don't understand."

"Bryant," I pleaded. "Please don't do this right now; I don't think that I can take it." I told him sincerely and he kissed my lips softly.

"Love you, Cassie."

"Love you more," I told him truthfully.

He shook his head, his eyes dancing with life. "I don't think that's possible." He grabbed my hand as we grabbed our stuff before walking towards the door. Nobody was in the hallway, but I turned to walk towards the east of the high school anyways and he turned to the west. Our fingers were interlaced until the last second. I sighed happily; Bryant was the only thing that mattered in my life now.

A few weeks later

"Cassidy!" Sophia shouted towards me and smiled as she ran towards me. "I didn't know that you were coming over Bryant's tonight."

I looked around and saw that it was only Bryant and Sophia over Bryant's house… I cringed as jealously was springing through my veins. I couldn't believe that Bryant actually invited Sophia over his house… it was usually just Bryant and I on Sunday nights, but he decided that Sophia was better then me?

"I didn't know you would be here," I told her truthfully.

She smiled, not catching on to the edge in my voice. "Bryant asked me kind of last minute, but I decided that it would be fun to hang out with him in awhile. Anyways, what are you doing over here?"

"Uh. Nothing, since we're neighbors, my mom asked me if I could borrow something from his mom… uh! I should get going now! Yeah." I muttered helplessly and walked towards the door. Sophia asked me to stay, but I could just not stay after that. It made me sick to my stomach that he was hanging out with Sophia. I mean she was my best friend and everything and I knew that she liked Bryant… but, it made me sick with jealously to think that she was over here alone with him.

As soon as I walked out the door, he found me.

He pulled me tightly against his chest and wrapped his arms around me tightly. Making sure that I would not go anywhere. He kissed the top of my head as I wrapped my arms around his torso. "It's not what it looks like, Cass."

"Oh?"

"She kind of invited herself over, although I tried to explain to her that I had plans tonight, but she didn't want to listen." Bryant explained.

"Don't worry about it," I stated.

He looked at me confused, before kissing me happily. "I promise to make this up to you somehow and you know I would get rid of her if I could… but I don't want to seem too suspicious."

"I know," I said, my voice having more edge then I wanted it too. "Don't worry about it Bry, its fine. I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Of course," he declared. "Love you." He said softly.

I smiled. "Love you too."

I yawned as I entered school Monday morning.

I hadn't heard from Sophia or Bryant since Sunday night and I felt like something had happened that I wasn't aware of. As I entered school, pulling at my light brown hair that I had clipped at one side, something that Bryant liked, I noticed a clump of girls around my locker. I looked at them suspiciously as I opened my locker. Mara, one of my other friends, and Jordan, another one of my friends were within the clump of girls.

"Uh?" I uttered softly.

Jordan pulled away from the group and smiled. "Cassidy! Have you heard?"

"Heard…?" I questioned.

"She hasn't," Mara hissed and Jordan frowned.

"You guys?"

"Oh! Do you want to tell her, or do you want me to tell her, Jordan?"

"You can."

"No but I insist—!"

"You guys!" I shouted. "Can you please just tell me what's going on before my head explodes from all this talking that is happening? I just want to know what all this buzz is about."

Mara looked around cautiously. "Sophia and Bryant hooked up last night," she told me in confidence.

My heart dropped at that very moment. Because this was not pleasing news to me. This was the worst thing that had ever happened to me. Mara seemed to notice because she pulled me away, seconds later towards a hallway that was pretty much empty and people wouldn't question us as they walked up.

"What's up?" Mara questioned.

I groaned. "Nothing."

"That look that crossed your face, Cassie, I've never seen it before. I thought you would be joyous to know that Sophia finally got Bryant. I mean, you've know she's liked him for forever." She stated.

"I am!" I lied.

Mara shook her head. "You never were a good liar, Cassidy."

"I don't know," I said, utterly defeated. I was torn from the fact that Bryant had actually hooked up with Sophia of all people. She was my best friend… at least, that's what I thought she was. Girls were back-stabbers; obviously, I hadn't noticed it until now.

Mara clued in. "You and Bryant weren't…?"

"Uh…"

"Oh my god! No way."

"Don't tell anybody please." I begged and she nodded. "Thank you."

"I just want to give you a heads up, Cassidy. Because I care about you and all." Mara said softly. "But Sophia was only using you to get to Bryant, that's why she suddenly became your friend a long time ago. I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier, but Sophia told me that if I told you, then she would kill me."

My heart only sunk deeper. Great. So the best friend that I thought was my best friend really wasn't my best friend. And the love of my life cheated on me with my ex-best friend. "Uh… thanks."

"I'm just trying to protect you," Mara clarified.

"Thanks." I said harshly.

I went by through most of the day doing nothing; I could no longer feel any emotions. Sophia didn't try to talk to me all during the day, although I saw her many times talking to all these new people, chatting with Mara and Jordan, and sometimes Bryant. She would never talk to me though, Mara was right, she was avoiding me – and using me. Fuck.

"Cassidy!" Bryant hissed from inside a room. He ushered me in, and I went willingly. "I'm so sorry, love."

"Huh?" I mumbled dumbly.

He ran a hand through his hair. "I didn't mean fro this to happen and Sophia kind of forced herself on me, but I couldn't just be like: no, because it would seem like something is up… God Cassie, I screwed this up, didn't I?"

"Uh." Was all I muttered. "Give me time to process all this."

"As much time as you need," Bryant agreed and I walked out of the darkened classroom. It was lunch time when I finally made up my mind.

Bryant was sitting besides Sophia who was clinging to him. He looked incredibly uncomfortable, but there was nothing anybody could really do about it. He looked up as soon as I entered the commons where we ate lunch. I sat down next to Mara who pulled me close to her, I should have known that Mara was my true friend, while Sophia was really two-timing me and trying to get to Bryant. I mean it was so… obvious. Although, I had missed it so many times.

"You look like you're gonna kill somebody." Mara noted.

"Not really," I said. "But I've just got an announcement to make to everybody." I stated a smirk clear on my face. Mara looked at me curiously as I stood up and walked towards Bryant and Sophia.

"Don't do something rash, Cassidy." Mara commented.

I stood behind Bryant a few seconds later, tapping my foot impatiently. Sophia looked up at me and furrowed her eyebrows, "what'd you want, Cassidy?"

"Bryant, can I speak to you?" I questioned.

He looked up, surprised. "Uh, sure, Cass, what do you need?"

"C'mere," I told him and he stood up, smiling as he finally got out Sophia's clutches. The familiar butterflies were stirring in my stomach since I was in his presence. I stood on my tiptoes and kissed him openly, not caring who was watching.

"Cassidy?" Sophia shouted, shocked.

"Cassidy?" Bryant whispered in between kisses. "What's gotten into you?"

"I'm not going to share you with another girl, Bryant," I told him boldly. "I refuse too and if that means that we are going to have to go open with our relationship, then so be it. You're mine, and nobody else's." I stated darkly, sending daggers at Sophia.

Bryant only smiled and kissed me again, wrapping his arms around me. I ignored the protests that Sophia was making as she watched us. All I could think was: Take that bitch.
