But dreams do not tender satisfaction

And when I wake my pulse

Pounds out your name in longing

And my heartbeat sings out in love

Throbbing wistfully in need of you

Whilst the dream fades

Dying only to make way for day

Preparing for yet another night

Where hands will close over empty spaces

And the bed has an empty half

Mimicking the feelings within me

Alone, with an empty space in my heart

(Only nightly dreams bring you to me

And you fade ever-so gradually

Whilst I clutch at you, yearning,

Like cloudy smoke, you evade my every grasp)
