My limbs are heavy

And my eyes refuse to open

As the alarm squeals restlessly

By my aching ear.

I roll over in mumbling misery

"Don't wanna get up"

Reach out sleepy hands

In weary search patterns

To cut off dreaded noise.

In my head nagging voices

Reside, telling my to wake

"Such a lot to do" of course –

But swollen tongue murmurs protests

And sleep-sticky eyes blink in distress

My body weighs me down,

Curling up into gentle quilt –

Whilst my mind worries me

With reminders of exams and school –

So much work to sort, and do.

(But I just want to sleep)
