Remember Me

Part I of the Cet Amour Ne sait Aucune Limite trilogy

Remember
I will still be here
As long as you hold me
In your memory

Remember
When your dreams have ended
Time can be transcended
Just remember me

I am the one star that keeps burning
So brightly
It is the last light
To fade into the rising sun

I'm with you whenever you tell
My story
For I am all I've done

Elizabeth

I saw the soldiers preparing for battle in the courtyard below the castle and I knew there was only a matter of time. How much time, though, I could not be certain. I had to look for him, had to know for sure that he would be going as well. Giving up my seat at the window I made my sister, Gabrielle, promise to detain him if she were to come across him first. I can not be sure that this will help me but if I run out of time, she can give him my words. My love.

The castle is alive with people of all sorts. The one I am looking for is nowhere to be found. Why would he be when I need him most? I search the castle's endless rooms on the ground floor and still I do not find him. My insides twist and turn with worry. Worry that I will not find him in time. If this happens, what will I do? If he goes off without once more knowing my love for him, I will not make it. On my way toward the stairs, I'm hurrying when someone calls my name. I want to ignore them but that would be rude. With all the composure one under my stress can muster, I turn to address whomever called me. "Yes." there was little grace in that, I know.

"Where are you going in such a hurry, Miss Elizabeth?" asks a soldier by the name of Melot.

"I am looking for someone, Melot. So, I must excuse myself." he gave a quick bow and then looked at me strange. "Is something wrong?"

"Are you looking for Aaros?" how did he know? Did everyone know? I can only nod. "Yes. I might know where he is, Miss."

"Take me to him." it is more than a statement, it is a declaration. He nods his head stiffly at me and leads me, instead of upstairs, downstairs. I am concerned but if this route will take me to Arros, I am more than willing to take it. Before long we are in a dark tunnel under the castle and I am sure that my dress is in ruins. I dare not look. "Are you sure this is the way, Melot?"

"Yes, my lady, Miss Elizabeth, this is the way." he says without looking at me, as if he will not know the way with one glance away from the path. This is fine with me, I do not wish to be lost down here. I do not even think I could survive down here. Suddenly he comes to a stop and I almost run into him. Why would someone in their right state of mind stop that way. "Here we are, Miss." I can only see a bit of the dark oak door ahead of us. Melot stands to the side and bows before opening the door. It's beautiful inside, like I would have never thought. Who would hide a room like this, so full of beauty, in a dark tunnel beneath the castle?

"This is stunning." I say with my hand over my heart, Melot just smiles a small smile and nods for me to go in. Of course I do. Though there is a small problem, Arros is not here. "Melot ..." I say, turning only to see the door closing. "Melot!" I run to the door as fast as my feet will carry me but I am not fast enough. The door is closed and locked. "Why are you doing this?! I have to see Arros be-before ..." I can not finish my statement. Just thinking of Arros has me on the floor in tears. Now I will not have the chance to tell him I love him just one more time. To tell him that my heart will always belong to him. "Please, please, let me out of here." I beg from the floor, though I can not be sure if anyone is even out there to listen to my cries. This is wrong. He had said he would take me to my beloved and now ... now look at where I am. Locked away in some beautiful room like a china doll, not to be touched. Not even to be seen. This is it, he will never know my love. I crawl over to the chaise, laced in gold, and ly down on it. Allowing myself to drown in tears I thought I would shed much later in this battle.

Remember
I will still be here
As long as you hold me
In your memory
Remember me

I am that warm voice in the cold wind
That whispers
And if you listen
You'll hear me call across the sky

As long as I still can reach out
And touch you
Then I will never die

Narrative

The lock is lifted, the door opened and then closed easily without waking the slumbering form of a beautiful woman. Black hair falls across tear stained porcelain cheeks and a small sculpted nose. Lips the color of rose petals open slightly and close every few minutes. Hidden are the most startling beautiful green eyes that one man has ever seen. Arros could watch her forever and never have desire for something new. For her beauty knew no limits and her love knew no other. Watching her sleep was what his dreams were made of but he could not just watch her. He had come to say his goodbye, his final goodbye. In quiet strides he went over to her and with one last look at his beauty in her most peaceful state, he woke her up. At first his light touches seemed not to work but he was nothing if not persistent. With her eyes wide open she was in shock. Shock was quickly over taken by the love she felt for the man standing not a foot in front of her. Without shame she threw herself into his arms. "I did not think you would come." she whispers never loosening her hold on him.

"Could I go without saying goodbye?" he asks, voice hitching on that last word. The very same word that made Elizabeth's heart speed up.

"Goodbye?" she asked, knowing it was the time she had been dreading most.

"We march in an hours time." he says looking down at the floor. With his shoulders drooped, he looks nothing like the man Elizabeth knows he is.

"Look at me, Arros." she places her hands on the side of his face and forces him to look at her. "Do not be sad, my love."

"Nor you." says Arros, knowing that behind those brave eyes are more unshed tears.

"That ... this is not possible." says Elizabeth with tears threatening to surface, thought she fights, with every fiber of her being, not to let him see them. No way will she allow him to go into battle with the thought of her crying on his mind. It would be selfish.

"No tears, my love." he says. "Please." he holds her body close, their hearts beet as one and she takes strength from him. In a swift motion Arros sits himself and Elizabeth down on the chaise. "Is this to your liking?" he indicates the room.

"It is beautiful." she says before understanding. "You wanted me here?"

"Yes." he says blushing a bit beneath raven colored curls. "I knew you would be looking for me. I thought it better if I found you."

"How thoughtful of you." Elizabeth said holding both his hands in hers. Bringing one to her lips. "I love you. With all my heart, I love you." she added with all the heart wrenching truth she could muster.

"With you I have become a better man and I thank you for that. You love like no other and this is the greatest gift the Gods could have ever given me. My heart will always be yours, take no shame in that."

"Would I ever?" of course she would not. There was nothing like their love, they both knew that.

"Good. I need you to know before ... before it is too late. You are my light and without you there would be no sun in my life, as to say you guide me. You are my stars, covering me in your love every night I have spent on this Earth. I love you, Elizabeth, please never forget that."

"Never." she knew there was not much time left and she would have to act quickly. With the emboldened heart of a woman truly in love, she wrapped him in her arms and gave him a kiss she was sure he would not soon forget. Passion and love flowed between them, as he knew this would probably be the last kiss he would share with his beloved. A knock at the door shook him to his core, though he never stopped kissing her. His arms grew tighter and Elizabeth almost felt as if he was leaving a physical part of himself in her. Something that could never be taken away. And then he withdrew with something akin to tears in his eyes. Elizabeth's gaze forced him to look at her and she saw, for the first time, that he was going. Possibly for good. "If I begged you, got on my knees and begged you, would you stay?" she was pleading, it was unbefitting of a future Queen and she knew it. That didn't make any difference. His answer came not from his lips but from his eyes. A second knock, louder still, told them to hurry. Arros did the only thing he knew to do, he took her in his arms and kissed her as if his very soul could be saved by it.

"Remember, always, that I love you." with a sweet kiss to her forehead he quickly left her side.

"Always. Always and forever, my beloved. I will remember you." Elizabeth blew him a loving kiss and threw him her pearl earrings. Why? Because, like a pearl, their love would always be beautiful. "Remember me too."

"Like I could ever forget." his last look seemed to stop time, a moment saved for them forever. A moment Elizabeth, in her eldest years, would not forget. Even when her own name escaped her, she would remember his.

Remember me

Ok, so I was inspired by Josh Groban's Remember Me at, like, 8 this morning and I really like it. There is not supposed to be a chapter 2 but I think I might do a part 2. Again, short and sweet. Though this one is more bitter-sweet. Let me know if you liked it, loved it or have some improvement tips. All is welcome.

Kisses + Kudos
