Ear aches and stomach pains

And glass blood scraping through my veins

And growling bears and broken wings

And daggers and other shiny things

All cause pain and all cause shame

And none will let you stay the same

And agony and blood-streaked arms

Distress so bleak that cutting calms

And broken lives and broken dreams

And nightmares hidden in silent screams

And war dances and bombshells dropped

And the terror when the noises stopped

Such pains in body and in head

(But never worse than being dead)
