Chapter 26

I didn't leave Reid's side for the rest of the day. We were always touching somehow- either holding hands or having our arms around each other. It was probably sickening to look at, but I was just so happy that he was back and healthy and alive!

Those days without him left me truly broken and I just realized how much I missed smiling genuinely and not just to make others happy. We were both positively beaming and Reid was bombarded with questions from Jenna, Dan, and my mother, and was being talked to the entire day. Everybody wanted to talk to him and be with him, and I felt so selfish when I realized that I wanted him for myself and I was almost about to just drag him away. We didn't invite any one else over because we didn't want Reid to feel overwhelmed and he still needed rest, but he wasn't getting any of that right now.

"Dan, I think we should leave now to give these two lovebirds some privacy."

I tore my eyes away from Reid's at Jenna's voice and I looked at her with a blush. "Sorry, guys," I said.

"It's okay. You both just got reunited, so we don't mind," Danny said, getting up.

"Reunited and it feels so goood," Jenna sang with a laugh.

"You guys don't have to go," Reid said, but his expression said otherwise.

"Yes we do. You guys probably want to be alone," Jenna said, taking the hand Danny offered to help her up off the ground.

I blushed and looked back at Reid, who was looking at me also. "We'll take that as a 'yes'," Danny said with a laugh.

"See you two later," Jenna said. She gave both me and Reid a hug before leaving the room. Danny exchanged goodbyes with us, and then he left also.

As soon as the door of my room shut behind them, I felt Reid's arm wrap around me and pull me closer to his side. He put his face in my neck and kissed it softly. "Finally, we're alone."

"Reid, you know they just missed you, that's all," I said, enjoying the feeling of his hair caressing my skin.

"Yeah, I know. I missed them too, but not nearly as much as I missed you. And I know it sounds mean, but it's true," Reid said, kissing my neck continuously. Then oh-so-very slyly, he put his hands around me and placed me on his lap.

I giggled and wrapped my arms securely around his neck. "It does sound mean, but then again, I didn't miss Jane and Mike nearly as much as I missed you."

"Then we can both be mean together," he said, kissing my lips softly, making me catch my breath.

I giggle against his lips and smiled largely. "I like that idea."

Reid shifted us so that I was lying on the bed and he was on top of me. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed me passionately, while I wrapped my arms around his neck, missing the feel of him so much. I whispered softly, "I love you."

He didn't respond in words, but instead in fervor, deepening the kiss even more. I barely noticed when he took my left arm away from around my neck, but continued to kiss my lips. He took that hand in his and, while his lips were still pressed to mine, he slipped something on my finger. This finally made me look to what he was doing and my eyes teared up when I saw the engagement ring resting on my finger. It glistened in the light and I looked back at Reid's shining eyes. "Oh Reid."

"You didn't think I would forget, did you?" he asked.

"No. I didn't. Thank you so much for getting it back to me," I said in a quiet voice.

"You're welcome. You do want me still, right?"

I widened my eyes in shock. "Of course I still want you. I don't think I'll be able to live without you. God, a coma was bad enough, but anything worse..." I shook my head at the tears building up in my eyes. "I don't know what I'd do."

"Well, you don't have to worry about that, angel eyes. I'm never leaving you again," he said, kissing my forehead.

"Good. Cause I wouldn't let you."

I sifted through my closet trying to find a suitable dress for tonight. I groaned out in frustration and opened the door to my bedroom, ready to barge into Reid's room to make him help me solve this dilemma. Before I could leave my room, however, I tripped over something. I looked down at a nicely wrapped box and I looked at it curiously. I picked it up and on an envelope that was taped to it, it read in Reid's familiar handwriting, "For Emma."

I shrugged and took it into my room, shutting the room behind me. I sat on my bed, forgetting about my quest, and opened up the envelope. It read,

"Emma-
I knew you would be having a tough time trying to figure out what to wear, so I decided to help you out.
Hope you like it,
Love Reid."

I smiled and opened up the box, taking off the wrapping carefully. There was tissue paper inside and after I set that aside, I gently grabbed the fabric and pulled it out of the box. I gasped with pleasure.

It was the dress from the store window.

I hastily threw it on and I felt amazing. It fit like a glove. I couldn't help but look in the mirror and it was positively stunning. I ran into the closet and found the perfect shoes and the perfect jewelry to go with it.

Then Sofia came in. She looked amazing in a hot red dress that made her look slightly taller, not to mention her huge heels. We did each other's make up and I helped her tie her hair in a complicated curled bun. After an hour, we were done.

A knock sounded at the door and Reid and Damien entered without waiting for either of us to give an indication that they could come in. "Wow, thanks for waiting for us to answer," I said sarcastically.

"You're welcome," Damien answered.

"You look stunning," Reid told me, kissing me softly.

"Aw, thank you." I said, holding my hand to my heart. "You don't look too bad either." He wore a nice black tuxedo that matched Damien's.

"So shall we go?" Sofia asked. "We have to make our entrance."

We all made our ways to the hallway and stopped before we reached the gigantic marble stairs. "I don't get what the point of the entrance is."

"Jane decided. She wanted the spotlight to be on the two couples." Reid said.

"It's still stupid though. I don't care if she is announcing our engagements. I hate being the center of attention." I said, pouting.

"Welcome, everyone, to our home!" I heard Jane's voice say to everyone through the microphone. There was a round of applause. "As you all know, this is no random party today. This party is to acknowledge the love of four young people who have decided to eventually make the commitment to each other to spend their lives together. The first couple that I will announce is our very own Damien Mason and Sofia Bustamante." There was a round of applause.

"Good luck you two." Reid said to them before the spotlight followed both of them down the large marble staircase, their arms linked with each other. They moved gracefully and I was consumed with nervousness.

"Reid, I'm scared," I whispered to him.

"Don't be," he said. "I'm here."

He extended his arm and I placed my hand on his. He took my hand and kissed it before Jane called out on the microphone, "And now, I present Reid Mason and Emma Rose."

Again, applause.

We stepped out from behind the wall and I lightly gripped the railing and adjusted to the spotlight being on us. Every now and then Reid would pat my hand, telling me that he was there for me. We descended the stairs and the guests clapped softly and I heard a couple of "aww"'s here and there. I had a small smile on my face and all I was thinking to myself was, 'Emma don't trip, don't trip, don't trip,' over and over again until I reached the last step. Right when I thought it was over, though, I missed the last step and tripped.

Thankfully, though, Reid caught me and no one noticed.

"There, the worst is over. Now you can relax," Reid whispered in my ear, kissing my hand.

I nodded, but there was still the rest of the party to go. We then made our way up the stairs onto the stage with the other members of our family.

"You all look amazing. Damien and Sofia will be married later this summer, however, Reid and Emma will marry whenever they feel comfortable. Tonight is purely to celebrate them and, also, Reid's home coming. After 6 month's in a coma from a severe accident, Reid had woken up and returned from the hospital in Paris. So, welcome back Reid!" There was a round of applause and I kissed Reid on the cheek. "Now, everyone, please proceed to the dining hall for dinner and desserts."

"Will both couples please come to the dance floor," Mike said. "Now, to start off the dance, both couples will show off the results of their ballroom dancing classes. I warn you, they may not be the best, even if they did attend lessons for weeks, but they'll try their best."

There was laughter and a round of applause and then we took our place on the dance floor with our arms around each other. Dinner was amazing, but I was feeling sick now with nervousness. This was the worst part of the party, but after this, it was going to be smooth sailing. I think my hands were shaking because Reid held one of them and kissed it softly, silently telling me not to worry. The music began and we began to waltz. My job was much easier since all I had to do was follow, while Reid had to lead. A couple of times Sofia and I made eye contact and we made a face at each other. Gradually, as the song progressed, more and more people came to the dance floor. After the song was over, everyone clapped and I felt all the pressure lift off my shoulders.

"Now let's get this party started!" Danny shouted into the microphone, taking it from Jane. The DJ turned up the music and started playing good dance music, which I was so thankful for. My friends all ran up to us and I hugged each and everyone one of them.

"Very nice waltz, people." Jenna said.

"Yeah, very smooth." Danny said.

"Did you two waltz?" Reid asked.

"Pshh, no." Jenna said, laughing.

"Come on people! Enough standing around! Let's dance!" Roshaan shouted. She was actually able to make it to the ball.

We all started dancing between one another, twirling each other and going completely insane. It was so much fun. After 20 minutes of nonstop hardcore dancing, a slow song came on. I wrapped my arms around Reid's neck and his arms rested around my waist.

"So, you having fun?" Reid asked.

"More fun than I expected to have," I answered.

"Good," he said. He pulled me closer. "You look so beautiful tonight."

"You already said that," I said, giggling.

"And no matter how many times I say it, I won't ever be able to express how beautiful you truly are." He kissed me softly.

"I love you," I told him.

"And I love you." I said. I rested my head against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat.

Just then I realized. My dream had come true. Here I was, at a dance, surrounded by people who love me, wearing the most amazing dress and dancing with the love of my life. Then, in the middle of everyone, Reid stepped closer to me and kissed me softly. It was soft and loving and amazing and just perfect, just like everything in my life and I was sure it would stay that way. It was the biggest cliché ever: it was a happily ever after.
