Author's Note: I know I said I would use the ending part of Ch. 21 as the beginning of Ch. 22, but this is actually a rewrite of that part. I accidently saved another document over the original one and couldn't remember what I had written down. That was probably a good thing, though, since I ended up changing the whole thing. I also wanted to make things easier by keeping this part as the beginning of Ch. 22, but the end of this posting felt like it belonged as the end of the chapter instead of a beginning. Thank you to everyone who has read, reviewed, alerted, favorited, etc. You guys are the best! I hope you guys enjoy Part II of Ch. 21.
Chapter 21: Part II
I awoke to the sound of something hitting the bedroom floor. I cautiously, and also nervously, turned my head so I could look over my shoulder. I sighed, while feeling relief, when I saw Sandra standing in front of the open door. She was carrying a tray of food in her hands. "Sorry," she whispered as she set the tray down on top of the dresser. She bent down and retrieved the Prognatus book; I assumed she had accidentally knocked it onto the floor. Sandra straightened up. "I didn't know you were asleep. I was actually heading to bed myself, but I wanted to stop by so I could bring you something to eat."
"Thanks." I replied, while yawning.
Sandra nodded her head. She placed the book beside the tray and then exited the room. After resting for a few more minutes, I yanked off the covers and stood up off the bed. I walked into the bathroom. I quickly washed my face and brushed my hair. When I was done, I walked back into the bedroom and went over to the dresser. I grabbed the tray and carried it out of the room. I shut the door behind me.
I didn't feel like spending any more time in my room so I decided to eat my food in the lounge. As soon as I reached the door, I opened it up and walked inside. I turned on the lights and placed the tray on the closest side of the couch. I went over to the TV and started to look through the basket for a DVD to watch. I picked one out and took the disc out of its case. I popped it into the DVD player and sat down on the couch. I then turned on the TV and started the movie. I began to eat my dinner.
When the movie was over, and I was finished eating all of my food, I removed the disc from the DVD player and put it into its case. I turned off the TV and the DVD player. I then took the tray off of the couch and turned off the lights. I made my way over to and also through hallway number one. As I reached the doors to the cafeteria, I opened the one on the right and walked inside. I threw my trash into the garbage and went over to one of the kitchen doors. I walked inside and placed the tray on top of the dirty stack of trays. I would have cleaned the tray myself, but I was afraid I would accidentally break something since I never used a removable faucet that had seven different settings before!
Followed by that, I walked back into the cafeteria and over to the front doors. I exited the room and walked down the hall. When I entered the main room, I walked down hallway number three and went back to my room. I opened the door and walked inside. After changing into my pajamas, I grabbed the Lycanthrope book and sat down on the bed. I read through a total of thirty pages. I then looked at the clock and noticed that it was already 11:30pm. I wasn't anywhere close to falling asleep, though, so I decided to take the Lycanthrope book and read some more of it in the lab.
As I walked inside the room, I went over to one of the desks and pulled its chair out from under it. I sat down and placed the Lycanthrope book on the desk. I opened it up and started to read. After finishing a few more pages, I began to look around the room. When my gaze met the window of the ecosystem, my eyes widened in shock because I realized Ryan was nowhere in sight! I found this to be extremely surprising, since this was the first time I didn't see Ryan sitting on top of that one rock, but after a few minutes of debating I decided to ignore it. He was probably roaming around because he didn't have to worry about being caught by one of the members of the Union.
I went back to my reading. When I was finished with twenty-five more pages, I finally started to feel a bit tired. I closed the book and stood up off the chair. I pushed it back underneath the desk. I then took a deep breath and made my way over to the door. I opened it up and noticed all the lights were turned off. Damn it! I cursed, mentally, to myself. I was definitely going to have trouble navigating through this place while stuck in the dark!
I sighed in frustration as I walked into the hall and shut the door behind me. I carefully made my way down the hall. Once I reached the main room, I stopped walking and did a quick sweep of the room. I knew I shouldn't have allowed myself to feel paranoia, but I couldn't help it! I might have been somewhat okay with walking down the hall while stuck in the dark, but having to walk through a huge darkened room really freaked me out!
I closed my eyes and counted to ten, hoping I could calm down my nerves. I then attempted to walk through the main room. Unfortunately, I ended up bumping into desk after desk after damn desk whenever I thought I saw a moving shadow. When I finally reached hallway number three, I carefully walked over to my room and opened the door. I walked inside and closed the door. I placed the book on top of the dresser and then went underneath the covers. I laid my head against the pillow. As soon as I stuffed my hands underneath it, I jumped back in shock. I waited for my heart rate to go back to normal. I put my hands back underneath the pillow and pulled out what I found.
It was the Ackrotha.
