Chapter one
I sat in my last class of the day trying to listen to what my teacher was saying, but I kept getting distracted by the clock. It was the first day of school for most; however, for me it was the last day in Maryland. Over the summer my family had a run in with my neighbor who decided to get drunk and start a verbal argument with my mom the minute she stepped out of her car after a long night of work. I remember my brother coming out to help defend her and to get my neighbor to go back inside her house. One thing lead to another and the next thing I saw was her slamming my brother into our glass door, her hand around his throat and my sister screaming. The rest of that night was a big blur, the only thing that I did remember is the three police cruisers coming down to our court and trying to straighten things out. It wasn't one of my best memories but it's the only one that has been haunting my mind for a while.
"You coming Storm?" I jerked out of my trance and looked around the class room to see everyone gone and heading towards the buses. "You okay?" I looked up my friend 'Lexa who looked confused and worried at the same time. I've know 'Lexa since 6 grade, back then she had long blond hair and didn't know black eyeliner existed. I look up at her, she changed a lot since then. Her hair was now cut to her shoulders and dye a faded red, eyes outlined making them stand out from behind her glasses.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Lets go meet up with Steph." She nodded her head and waited for me to pick up my book bag.
"Your lucky you don't have to go here anymore, no offence or anything but having only half the school air conditioned is the gayest load of crap I've ever heard." I laughed as we walked out into the court yard and towards the rest of the gang.
"STORMY!!" I looked away from 'Lexa just as I was squashed into a hug by Steph. Stephine was the first friend I got when I moved here 3 years ago. The first day on the bus I never though anyone would sit next to me, the new girl, but she stepped on and plopped down next to me even though there were a million more empty seat and began a heartily conversation with me. She looked the same as she did back then except taller. She played sports so she had muscles so she was bigger then the skinny size 2 girls that lived around us. She was very intimidating with her height of 6'3 and a glare that would make the bravest man alive fidget.
"I don't think she can breath Steph!" She let go of me abruptly laughing.
"Sorry, but come on dude! Today was the best first day of school ever! Though I could do without having to be reminded that we're freshmen by every teacher, but it was still the best of them all!" She said excitedly.
"Oh yes the best. It would be better if , oh I don't know, a curtain friend was moving freaking south!" I nearly shouted at her. The smile on her face slipped off into a frown.
"Yeah it would be better if that small fact was just a rumor." I gave her a small smile.
"Storm!" I looked around to see my mom and dad standing not to far away, beckoning me to come so we could leave to pick up my sister. Then we'd be leaving.
"I have to go. I'll...I'll call you guys or something." I said with a sigh. Them nodded there head and gave me a hug. I wanted to cling on them and tell them to not let go, I resisted of course.
"Bye." They smiled weakly at me, I forced a smile and walked towards the parentals.
"How was your first day of school?" mom asked as we began walking towards the car.
"Like the last day, sucky." I replied. She sighed.
"I'm sorry." I rolled my eyes, she's be telling us that she's sorry since the day she told us that we'd be moving to Virginia. I knew she felt horrid for making us leave our friends, specially making me leave. It took forever for me to actually get and retain friends, to leave and make me never seen them for a excruciating long time was horrendous.
"Where's Chris at?" My brother, the lucky bastard, got to stay up here because he wants to graduate with his class. So my parents let him, though they knew that the main reason is because his long-time girlfriend, Denise, lived here and he didn't want to be so far way from her then he was already seeing as she went to collage in Delaware.
"With the rest of his G.I. Joe friends." I pointed my arm dramatically to the large oak tree off to the side where my brother was at talking Marine with the rest of the R.O.T.C people.
"CHRIS!" Dad yelled, "Come on we have to go." I laughed as he glared at dad, waving to his friends he ducked his head trying to ignore the stares people we're giving him.
"Lets go before they find out that I'm with y'all." I laughed and patted him on his shoulder.
"Chris, your sister is a punk freak, how much of a loser can you get?" He hit my hand away making me laugh more, which in turn more people looked at us. "Aw look...people are looking..."
"Shut up!" He growled at me.
"Both of you stop it!" dad turned and glared at us. "Get to the car. Now."
"Yes sir." we mumbled. We both went to our sides of the car and got in. Chris always sits behind mom, its very rare when he doesn't. That only happens if he's sitting up front or driving. We drove quietly to the middle school to pick up Kara. Kara the new 7th grader. Ergh, hearing her say that the whole summer was the most annoying highlight ever. I hope not to be around when she starts going on about bring a freshmen, or at least, I don't want to be the one driving her. Though I probably am going to be. We pulled up to the school and walked in, Chris stayed in the car listing to his iPod. I stayed downstairs as mom and dad went up stairs where the office is located. I watched as people I knew from last year walked by chatting happily with their friends.
"Apparently she..Storm?" I looked up to see Bill staring down at me smiling. I jumped up and hugged him. Bill was my ex boyfriend, I recently dumped him because our relationship wasn't going anywhere. Of course I didn't say that to him, I made up a excuse about school. "What are you doing here?"
"Picking up Kara. We're moving today." His smile dropped.
"Where you moving too?"
"Virginia." A frown formed on his face.
"That...sucks. I was hoping that you, Joe and I could go see a movie together Friday." I looked at him in surprise. He shrugged his shoulders. "Looks like that's not going to happen."
"Yeah, otherwise I would've gone, and probably invite a few of my friends as well." One of the teachers were yelling for all students out of the building, that the buses were getting ready to leave.
"Crap, I have to go. Talk to you later?" I nodded my head and gave him a hug, he pecked my cheek before hurrying towards the bus. I sighed and sat back down.
"What are you two back together or something now?" I looked up to see my sister smirking at me.
"No, we were just saying goodbye. Besides I broke up with him, why would I want to get back with him?"
"Cause your just that pathetic." I stuck my tongue at her childishly.
"All right your no longer part of this school." Dad said as he and mom came down stairs. "lets go home." we walked silently back to the car. Kara and I had to squish each other to be able to fit in, Chris didn't bother to move.
"Alright here's what we're going to do when we get back to the house." Mom said looking back at us. "Chris we're dropping you off at Denise's, so grab what you need. Girls grab everything your going to need, we're not coming back till we get a truck to move everything down to Virginia." We all stared at her with blank expressions. "I take that as you guys understand what to do." I was the only one to nodded their head.
I really don't want to move, I really don't want to live with my aunt for god knows how long, I really don't want to be the new girl again. Life sucks.
