Seattle 1:13 P.M. Friday
Friday's were always so busy. Evie walked around in her office reading through a proposal that she was writing to the state about more awareness to teen girls about cervix and breast cancer and getting check-ups. She even proposed to teach a few classes and give a few workshops on how to teach these classes to the girls so that it would get through to them. She couldn't concentrate. The fight with her husband last night was still running through her mind. She put the folder down and sat on her desk. Her hands covered her face, god she felt like crying so badly. Why was she so mean to him? Because he was so perfect, and she wasn't. She wasn't made for him. She held back tears and took a deep breath. There was a light knock on the door. "Come in." She said standing up with her back towards the door.
She wiped her eyes to make sure tears wouldn't come out and heard her secretary say, "Here's your mail Mrs. Conner's." She put it down at the edge of her desk and stepped back. There was talk around the office about Evie and her husband having marriage problems and she hated when people talked about her so she never showed her emotions to her workers. "Thank you Kate." The secretary nodded and walked out closing the door behind her.
Evie turned around and grabbed her mail. She looked through it and read a bill for almost everything. She finally came across a letter from her old high school. She sighed and thought it was just some stupid informative letter about renovations or something. Evie opened the letter with her letter opener and read it. It was an invitation to her ten year high school reunion. She sat in her chair and thought, 'God it's already been ten years. Time flew.' Her old friends Ann and Massie were the first to come to mind and she smiled wondering if they were going.
A vacation would be a good idea. She could go down to her hometown and visit her family and friends. Take a break from work and her marriage problems. She nodded to herself and walked out of her office and looked over at her secretary. "Kate I need you to clear my entire schedule for next week. I'm going on a vacation." She smiled and her secretary looked at her stunned for the sudden change of mood. Evie was smiling and had a different glow to her. Something was up, everyone thought as they saw her grab her jacket and her purse and leave the office.
As soon as she got home Evie left her purse and jacket at the couch and walked towards her bedroom. She heard something coming from her bedroom and didn't think twice before rushing in there. She was stunned to see two bodies rolling around on her bed. "Oh god!" She gasped and turned around rushing for the door. "Evie wait!" Tyler ran after her with a sheet wrapped around his waist. "Evie it's not what it looks like!"
She had her keys in hand and turned around to face him with tears starting to fall from her eyes. "Then what is it Tyler?! You two were standing in there and somehow became undressed and somehow accidentally fell onto the bed together? Because it looks to me as though you two were having sex!" She got on the tips of her toes to scream it in his face. "Don't you dare tell me otherwise."
He looked down at her and had his hands on her shoulders. "I'm not denying what I've done Evie, I just…." She moved away from him and as he looked in her eyes he could tell he really screwed up this time. "…it meant nothing…I swear it meant nothing." He tried to reach out to touch her hand but she shook her head.
"No Tyler, I know we've had our problems but I would never have slept with someone else. I know I'm a bitch but I'm not a slut. God, I came to ask you to come with me to my hometown so that we could get away from all this so that we could work on us…but now I see how you solve our problems." She shook her head and grabbed her purse and ran out.
Tyler was ready to chase after her but decided to let her go. The best thing he could do was let her vent. Cindy walked up behind him with half dressed with her shirt in one hand and looked over at him. "I guess I should go." She put her shirt on and walked up to him and kissed his cheek. He quickly turned his head the opposite way to avoid it and she looked down and walked out of there.
The door closed and he grabbed the small table next to the door and threw it. He felt himself so angry at himself. Why did he let this happen? God! He felt so stupid. She wanted to fix things and what did he do? He went and slept with another woman at a moment of weakness. He wasn't sure what was going to happen next. Tyler walked back to the bedroom and got dressed then sat on the bed. He looked over at the closet and saw her cloths hanging there.
His eyes became glassy and he walked out of the house and got into his car. He drove around the town for hours on end, or at least it felt like it. His mind was repeating that same scene over and over again. The moment she walked into the bedroom and saw them. He would never forget the look on her face when she opened the door to find him with their neighbor. With just looking into her eyes he could tell he had really hurt her this time. 'God what came over me?! Why?! Why damn it!?' He thought as he drove. He passed by a bar and reversed his car and parked it in front of the place.
