Note: Another weird poem from last semester's creative writing class. Rated for some allusions and attempts at strange double meanings containing sexual content. No promises that those double meanings actually occurred.

A Solar Love Affair
By StrixAluco

I am a modern-day Icarus
Drifted too close to the sun
Now I cannot get away

She called to me all my life
The cicadas sang her happiness
I was mesmerized by her power

I grew up and knew her better
The sun is only gas, brighter than me
But it's all just elemental

She rarely left my sight
Beckoning to me in the daylight hours
I longed to hear her speak to me alone

I built my own wings
Not of wax and feathers but steel
My spaceship brought me to her side

She greeted me with open arms
Welcoming me to her passionate heat
I lost control and went too far

I am not meant to love the sun
It's too intense for mere mortals
Our desire will destroy me

She will never let me go
My ship groans in her firm grip
I am trapped by the gravity of her presence

I will die for pursuing the forbidden
The most enchanting bodies mask death
Beneath the perfect glowing skin

She sings me to dark eternity
Ignoring the irony of my life
I sought the light and found darkness

I am a modern-day Icarus
Drifted too close to the sun
Now I cannot get away
