Chapter 20
"Kay! Reed's here!"
"Okay!"
"Hurry up! What the hell are you doing!? You've been in the bathroom for an hour!" Todd shouted at me from the kitchen.
"I'm fixing my hair!"
"If you fix it any more it's going to fall out!"
"Shut up! It's been three months since I cut it, it's getting to wild!"
"Just hurry up and get out here!"
I sighed and shook my head, turning my attention back to the mirror and snipping carefully at my hair to trim the ends and shape it a little. It was back to jaw length, and finally styled. It wasn't anything special, just a layered swoop, a little shorter in the front and a little longer in the back. Todd picked it out when we finally went to have my hair done and I honestly liked it.
"Kay!"
"Shut up! I'm coming!" I fluffed my hair up a bit and tossed the scissors in a drawer, dusting myself off and heading out to the kitchen.
Reed was there and he looked happier than I'd ever seen him. With him was his new boy friend, a cute little guy, thin with black hair. I came to find out that he had a thing for thin, dark brunettes.
He smiled at me as I walked into the kitchen and rushed over, grabbing me up in a big hug and pressing a soft kiss to my cheek. "Hey," he said softly.
I smiled. "Hey, Reed. How's your back?"
"It's fine. Therapy's been helping," he said. The bullet had nicked a disk in his back, and the little piece got lodged in the spinal cord. He could walk all right, but his right leg was always seizing up on him.
"So this is Kay?" came the soft voice of his date. He turned around and introduced us. The new guy's name was Vic and dinner and dessert proved him to be a really nice guy. I was happy for Reed.
We went up to the roof after that, with some blankets and wine, and snuggled with our partners, gazing at the stars.
"So what do you think?" Todd asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Vic. Is he good enough for Reed?"
I grinned and shrugged. "I think he'll pass. He's a nice guy, I like him," I mumbled.
"Me too. I hope it works out."
"Me too."
We were quiet for a while, just staring at the stars, when Todd pressed a soft kiss to my head. "I love you."
I smiled. That's right, a real smile. "I love you, too."
Todd sighed and grabbed me up, making me look at him. "Kay…Will…will you stay with me?" he said, blushing heavily as he said it.
I grinned and chuckled. "Is this a cheap proposal?"
He blushed again and hugged me a little tighter. "Will you say no if I say no?"
I furrowed my brow. "Uh…no?"
"Marry me?" I burst out laughing and he blushed. "Stop picking on me."
I giggled and kissed him. "You're such a freak."
"I love you," he said, smiling at me a little.
I smiled back. "I love you, too. Now, can we stop being sappy and relax? It's giving me a headache." He sighed and we went back to looking at the stars.
"Is that a yes?" he asked after a moment.
I was silent for a while, watching the stars twinkle and sparkle. I smirked.
"Yes."
