A/N: Just a slight little disclaimer: I wrote this chapter more than a year ago. Why did I never update it? Who knows. Another thing, my writing has changed...alot...since I wrote this, so bear with me in the case I add further chapters. The only way it's changed, however, is in length of chapters and level of vocabulary. I have also augmented on my description ability, but enough on that, enjoy the chapter!

Chapter 3: Flight

I pulled open the window and stepped out onto the fire escape. 'Dragon.' I thought. My body began to glow as my skin was replaced with green scales. My long, feather-tipped tail jutted out of my back as my neck became long and serpentine. My wings broke out of my sides and the transformation was complete. Now, all I had to do was jump and hope my wings did the rest.

I stared down to the ground from my fifth floor apartment. When you're about to jump from a place that high, the ground looks really far away. My eyes bulged as I looked down. I slowly pulled myself to the railing and lifted a leg over it. It was almost impossible because of my huge bulk.

Suddenly, I tripped. I spiraled downward towards the ground. "AHHHH!" I screamed, sure that everyone within a 50-mile radius could hear it. My wings jolted open and caught me right before I hit the bottom. I hovered, not five feet from the concrete. My wings were pretty easy to use actually, I moved them up and down with ease. The ends of them scraped either wall beside me.

My vision was better than perfect, it was like I could zoom in on stuff and make it bigger. This could probably come in handy sometime. I tried to actually fly instead of just hovering there. It was pretty easy, but it strained my wings slightly to pick me up. I easily forced them up and down and was soon over both the building. I began to look around, but suddenly the wind was knocked out of me from behind.

I fell a little bit but caught myself with my wings once I got my breath back. "What the heck?" I murmured as I turned around. My eyes widened in fear. It was a dragon, a pink one, and it looked pretty angry.

"What do you think you're doing?" It scolded me. I looked over to the side just to make sure she was talking to me.

"Um, I'm not sure. I was just about to go look for my friends, but," I didn't have time to finish, the pink dragon jumped out at me.

"Your friends!? You can't tell anyone! Every dragon knows that." She said angrily. I made the most clueless face I could muster. "You don't know that?" She asked, raging. She pulled me down to the roof and landed. She released me from her grasp and stared at me.

"Um, no." I said and turned away. "I'm sorta new with this if you know what I mean." I explained to her as I continued walking.

"New? What do you mean, new?" She asked, "I've known you for close to ever. You trained me for crying out loud!" She yelled.

"No, I didn't." I said flatly, turning to see the fuming pink dragon. She suddenly relaxed and crossed her arms coolly.

"Oh really? I think this is a test. Well, Derek, Master, let's spar." She said as she got into position.

"What! I'm not Derek!" I screamed, but it was too late, she was already coming at me. I quickly dodged a kick, but wasn't fast enough. The hit landed on my back, causing me to the double over. It hurt, but I wasn't about to show it. I jumped into the air and dove down, my tail going first. It hit her, but she didn't flinch, instead she grabbed it and threw me across the roof. I ran into the side, hard.

I carefully turned around and gradually pulled myself up. She stood in front of me, smirking and punched me straight in the face. I recoiled and fell off the edge of the building. I outstretched my wings, but that only helped to slow me down, I landed in a heap in the alley. I was quickly loosing consciousness as the pink dragon landed in front of me.

"Oops, maybe something did happen." She said with a nervous giggle. She looked side to side quickly, as if scared someone saw. "You're not Derek, are you?" She asked me.

"No, I'm Jesse." I said as I passed out. I heard her take a quick breath, as if the name surprised her and then I was in darkness.
