Her glossy lips formed a perfect pout. He found it near impossible to say "no" to those beautiful lips, the lips that would only kiss him if he didn't say no. He wanted to kiss her so badly, but he knew that she wouldn't let him unless he gave into her.
"Well?" she pressed, wanting an answer. After her lips formed the word, they flowed right back into that sexy pout that he so desired. Her eyebrows squeezed dangerously close. "Dameon." He started to panic inwardly, not knowing how to answer her so as to win the kiss but not give into her. Tears came to her eyes, threatening to screw up her carefully applied liner and mascara. "Dameon, please," she started to beg.
He sighed. "Baby—"
"Don't you 'baby' me!" she howled at him. He flinched and his body tensed. Her lips started to tremble as a tear fell from her eye. His body relaxed a little too quickly as he reached out to pull her close and hug her. She fought a little, trying to push him away, before she gave in and rested her head against his broad chest.
"Baby, I'm sorry," he whispered, stroking her hair. "I'm so fucking sorry. I can't." Her fingers formed a fist against his t-shirt. "Please, Rowan. Don't cry. Please don't cry anymore. I'm sorry, but please don't cry. I hate it when you cry."
Her arms slipped around his waist and hugged him tightly. He bit his lip, trying to find a way around it. He could find no way to avoid the inevitable.
"I can't stay any longer, Rowan. I have to go."
"No," she sobbed. The word came out muffled and distorted. "No."
"I have to. I can't stay. I have to go."
She lifted her head off his chest. "Please, just a few more minutes. I don't want to have to wait another two months before I can see you." Her forehead creased again.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, "but I can't. I wish I could, but I can't stay any longer."
His fingers slid under her chin and tilted her face toward his. He kissed her forehead, her cheeks, and finally her soft sugary lips. "I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too," she answered tearfully.
Untangling himself from her with some difficulty, he made his way to the door, and then to his car.
