Once upon at time
There was a man and his wife
And they loved
But they loved
Each other a little to much
Liked the world a little too little
So they built walls around their knees
And covered their rooftops with trees
Hiding from the sorrows of everyone
Just leaving a hole big enough for the sun
To slant through their lattice windows

And no one knows
If they ever made love
Or swung up into the skies
Saying their goodbyes to the faces they rejected

And no one knows
If their children grew up
From the pots where the bones were planted
By wide-eyed would-be parents
No one knows
