Accident Prone

Crap. The boy sprawled next to me was groaning. Maybe I should take out my proof of insurance now. Staring at the sky I mentally smacked myself. I lifted myself from the ground and looked at the boy. I winced as I saw that he had a bruise on his cheek. Quickly jumping to my feet, I grabbed his arm and lifted him up.

"I am so sorry," I said. The boy glared at me and rubbed his cheek muttering. I pulled my hand away from his arm, not realizing that was the only thing supporting him up. Therefore he fell back on the ground and I could hear the not so smooth landing. I started towards him again when he lifted a hand.

"No, don't," he said and he lifted himself off the ground. I flushed as I saw his butt crack. He turned around and glanced at me suspiciously.

"I am so sorry," I said trying to avoid eye contact.

"Do you make a habit of crashing into people?" he asked, " I mean I am good looking, but you didn't need to fall over yourself to get me to notice you." I flushed even darker and narrowed my eyes at him.

"No and I'm sorry for apologizing to a pompous ass like you," I said as I walked away. Even blocks away I could hear his deep laughter. Stupid boy. My anger was still intact when I reached the café. Going to the back room, I put on my apron and walked to the counter. Jean looked at me as I grumbled and she raised an eyebrow. I mouthed that I would tell her later and she nodded. Turning to a customer I put on a smile and asked her what she wanted. Just as I turned around to prepare, the new trainee Mitch spilled tea all over me. Great, now my day has officially started.

During my lunch break, I sat with my head down on the table in the back room of the kitchen. Something sat next to me making the bench tilt to the left and I lifted my head glaring at the something. Jean smiled at me and said, "So dish."

"I ran into this stupid boy. We both fell and he got a bruise from falling on his face, but I apologized. Then the pompous jerk goes and implies that I did it on purpose. Jean, on purpose! Why the 'ef would I try and knock a boy out on purpose? I mean he had a great ass," I said flushing, "assets. I mean assets."

Jean made a disbelieving cough, "So his ass-ets, where they yummy?"

"JEAN!" I exclaimed. Jean laughed as I smacked her arm.

By the end of the day I was in a semi-good mood. I had nice tips but the coffee spill and other "accidents" ruined my mood a bit. The thing is I'm accident prone or clumsy, whatever you want to call it. Ever since I was a child I was always getting into little accidents. I've broken my arm four times, twice in the same place, and I've sprained my ankle more times then I can count. No matter what I did, accidents always followed me. It was sad that I spent most of my time in elementary at the nurse's office, because of all of my accidents. I was about to put my apron on the hook when the bell of the shop tinkled. I knew I would have to take care of the customer since I was closing the café tonight. Putting on a smile, I turned around.

"You," I hissed. The boy smirked at me.

"Me," he said. I gritted my teeth in anger. His green eyes were twinkling with amusement.

"May I have a caramel latté?" he asked. I smiled falsely and turned to the register.

"That'll be 3.95 ," I said pausing, "sir."

"I think you owe me sunshine," he said.

"Excuse me?" I exclaimed losing my composure for a moment.

"I mean this bruise has caused me problems, my boss thinks I got in a fight," he said, "naturally I had to lie since I couldn't say a girl knocked me out."

"So what if you lie, that's your own fault that you can't talk about a girl knocking you out," I said.

"You admit you did it then," he said.

"Admit what?" I said.

"That you knocked me out," he said. I growled and almost leapt across the counter to attack him. But I took a breath and turned to make his drink. When I turned around I almost jumped out of my skin, he was sitting on the counter. Out of shock I dropped the latté and the cup spilled over my new shoes. I grimaced then turned my gaze onto the idiot.

"So this is what it looks like behind the counter," he said. I growled, I seem to be doing that a lot in his presence.

"Get of the counter," I said. He smiled cheekily at me.

"Not until you tell me your name," he said. I rolled my eyes, how immature.

"Chelsea," I said, "now get off."

"Mine's Alex," he said before he jumped of the counter and in front of me. I backed up and he stepped towards me. May I remind everyone that between a counter and the other counter it is not big. So he had me backed against the other counter.

"Chelsea," he said my name rolling it around, "pretty name. Although I thought you had more of an exotic name."

"That's nice," I said as I moved my finger around for something to attack him with. Feeling something I pulled it in front of me and waved it around.

"A spoon? Oh I'm scared," said Alex. I flushed and poked his bruise with the spoon.

"Hey!" he exclaimed. Then we started to fight over the spoon, it got a bit aggressive and at some point I slipped on the latté that I spilled earlier. Bringing Alex done with me, we fell to the floor.

"Not again," I moaned. Alex began to laugh and I looked at him narrowing my eyes. This made him laugh harder. Picking myself of the floor I grabbed his arm and lifted him up. Not saying anything as he laughed, I led him to the door. He was still laughing as he walked out the door. Slamming the door in his face I turned around and cleaned up the mess. I better not see him again, I thought looking up to the ceiling trying to plead with the man upstairs.

The past two weeks has been torture, Alex kept showing up at my job. He had his little corner in the café watching me with his green eyes. Although his eyes were a nice shade of green. I did not just think that.

I'm just exhausted from working and trying to keep up with my classes. Yeah, that's it, all of this was just exhaustion. Pausing for a minute, I sighed. My "accidents" were happening quite often as of late and I had no doubt that it had to do with Alex. Jean had taken notice and pulled me aside one day, I confessed to her that Alex was the boy I ran into that one day. She hasn't shut up about it since.

"So pretty boy over there wants to speak to you," speaking of the devil. I turned to Jean gave her a look and then let my gaze went towards his corner. He was gazing intently at us.

"Tell him to bug off," I said. Jean shook her head.

"Why are you so adamant on ignoring him?" she asked me.

"Because he's a pompous ass," I said. Jean rolled her eyes.

"Please that's always your answer," she said, "if he was a pompous ass, he wouldn't sit there for hours at time every day."

I gaped at her and she walked away from me. Closing my mouth I turned my gaze onto Alex again. He sat there watching me and I groaned. Turning back to my work I tried my best to ignore him. My work didn't seem to keep me from feeling his gaze. So I did the only thing I could think of, I started to sing songs in my head. So baby gimme that toot toot, Lemme give you that beep beep.

It's been two months since Alex started appearing in that corner, but when I walked into the café this morning he wasn't there. I shrugged thinking he was just going to appear at lunch. But when lunch came around, he still wasn't there. The time passed slowly and I was completely aware that Alex still wasn't there. Closing time came quicker then I realized and Alex didn't show up at all. You would think that I was relieved, but I didn't.

"So he was serious," said Jean. I looked at her.

"What are you talking about?" I asked her.

"Alex said he wasn't going to come," she said pausing, "anymore."

"What?" I whispered in amazement.

"He was tired of watching you," she said, "he wanted to talk to you. You never gave him the time of day, because you always thought he was joking around, trying to annoy you. To be honest Chelsea, I think you let the best thing that's happened to you walk away."

And I felt the same exact way.

I was walking towards the university when I crashed into someone. I fell to the sidewalk and my eyes automatically closed in pain. The person I ran into groaned. My eyes flew open, I recognized that groan. Lifting myself up I gasped, it was Alex.

"Alex?" I asked. Alex got up quickly and our heads bumped.

"Ow," we both groaned. We looked at each other and started to laugh. Alex got up and gave me a hand. I took it and pulled myself up.

"We've got to stop meeting like this," he said jokingly. I smiled. After he said that we fell into an awkward silence.

"Well," he said.

"I'm sorry," I blurted. Alex looked at me in surprise.

"Excuse me?" he said.

"Don't make me say it again," I said. Alex smirked.

"Well then," he said, "I think this is in order."

Then he lifted my face to his and kissed me. I was shocked for a minute before I kissed him back. When we pulled back from the kiss both of us were smiling. I started to speak when a car drove by and drove through a puddle. Making the water spray on both of us. We pulled apart in shock.

"I'm so accident prone," I said laughing. Alex looked at me then pulled me to him, sticky mess and all. Then he kissed me again. He pulled back and looked into my eyes.

"I have a secret," he said, "I am too."
