A/N:
Just a short fic that was suppossed to be up after the new story, but since it was already complete, I couldn't help myself. The others (that should have been posted first) will be up soon after some minor revising. Viola!
"Look!"
Seya did, and blanched. Cheap candy, the kind that left a bad aftertaste in your mouth even after you've eaten another meal. Or two.
"Want some?" Seya glanced up at Solstice, frowning a bit at the edges of her mouth. Risk hours of loss of taste, or decline? Solstice smiled innocently, raising her eyebrows expectantly.
"Okay." She reached out and took several, handling them with distaste. She unwrapped one and popped it in her mouth, tasting the stale juices and feeling the hard lump stick to her teeth. She finished them thoughtfully and looked up to find Solstice smiling happily in the air, chewing vigorously on her candy. After a moment, she said,
"These taste horrible."
Really, she didn't mean to say that. She was going to say something about the sky or business lately, or lack of. But the words just came out without her consent; it wasn't as if she could take them back. So instead she frowned at herself before Solstice turned to her and she put on a look of content for show. Better to go along with it.
"What, really? Then why did you eat them all?"
Seya shrugged. I wanted to see your smile. Instead,
"I was hungry."
Solstice rolled her eyes and shook her head.
"You're so weird, you dork. And they do not taste horrible, they're good. Better than gum."
Seya shifted, staring at the clouds, wanting to talk about something else.
"Gum's even more disgusting."
Seya cursed at herself. Damnit!
"You think everything's disgusting," Solstice retorted, jokingly.
"Yeah, well, maybe everything is disgusting." Smooth. Did you come up with that by yourself?
Instead of the remark Seya expected, Solstice leaned back and said,
"Do I taste disgusting?" before pressing her lips against Seya's, catching the other girl off guard. She moved her lips, not softy, wrapped a hand in Seya's hair and pressed her down until they were both lying on the grass. Seya's surprise vanished as she mewed into the kiss, clutching Solstice's back.
When she pulled back, Seya could taste the cherry flavored candy on her tongue. Looking up at Solstice with disheveled hair, in that moment she decided that maybe lumpy candy wasn't so bad after all.
