She follows him in the dark
Down the small windy lane
His breathing going much too fast
As she traces his prominent mark
At first he does not see her
Too lost in his own weary thoughts
But then he senses something there
Or an angel as it were
She looks him over swiftly
As he stares at her in shock
She feels his fear filling the air
And decides to take him quickly
At first he thinks he is asleep
As he tries to understand
Why this angel's eyes are on him
And he begins to weep
She tries her best to comfort him
As he drowns in his own self pity
She tells him get himself together
And he slowly learns to swim
Now above that small windy lane
A mother watches clearly
She hears her own son's guilty cries
But loves him all the same
