Chapter Two

Kouhei sighed as he sat at his small wooden table watching the girl he had found as she slept. He had bandaged her wound and laid her on his bed in which she was now resting. The girl began to stir and Kouhei stood up and walked closer to her. She slowly opened her eyes and turned to look at Kouhei who was surprised by the golden hue of her eyes. She sat up slowly and regarded Kouhei with an unexpectedly calm demeanor. To him it seemed as if she knew who he was or that he didn't mean any harm.

Lys looked at the boy standing before her. He seemed no older than her, although her appearance was far younger than her actual age. He appeared to be around seventeen or eighteen. He was rather tall and had light brown hair of medium length although at the bottom of the back of his head there was a portion that was longer and tied in a ponytail. His eyes were a brilliant forest green with a kind look and his skin was lightly tanned.

She guessed he was a peasant from the way he was dressed. He wore a white button up shirt beneath a black vest and a pair of black pants. Around his waist was a brown belt and he also wore black boots.

"Who are you and where am I?" She asked in a soft yet commanding voice.

Kuohei stared at her for a moment before answering.

"My name is Kouhei and this is my home. You were laying by yourself by the river and so I brought you here."

She looked around at the room and Kouhei stood up and walked to the stove in the corner.

"If you are hungry, I made some soup." He offered.

The girl stood up and flinched as her leg hurt. She sat down again and looked down at the bandages on her leg.

"You have a pretty bad scratch on your leg. Just stay in bed and I'll take the food there."

He picked up the plate, but she held up her hand and shook her head.

"That's alright, you've done enough for me."

She slowly began to remove the bandages on her leg and sighed as she looked at her injury. Kouhei was about to stop her and bandage her leg up again, but she placed her hand over it and a low glow surrounded it. She removed her hand after a moment and the wound was gone although she seemed somewhat tired.

"H-how did you do that?" He asked amazed.

She sighed and gave him a tired smile.

"I guess I should introduce myself."

She stood and Kouhei thought he saw a kind of glow surrounding her. The room seemed brighter as she rose to her full height and cast a small smile.

"I am Lys, goddess of the sun and of the light of truth. I am very grateful for your help."

Kouhei stood glued to the floor. He stared at the girl and then stumbled back into his chair.

"Lys!?" He said in surprise.

Kouhei knew who she was everyone in Tellus knew who she was. Lys was a great deity and perhaps the most revered goddess of all. To think that she was now standing in front of him and looking quite concerned was ridiculous. Had he not seen her heal herself he would not have believed her, but as it was, no one other than a god could have such power.

"Are you alright?" She asked.

Kouhei looked up and nodded quickly.

"I just can't believe it, not that I don't believe you of course, but how did you end up here my lady?"

A sad look crossed her face.

"I'm afraid I was tricked into coming here by my sister, Atrer."

Kouhei gave her a sympathetic look, but in truth he was worried about Atrer. Atrer was the goddess of the realm of the dead, the Shadow Realm. If it was true that she was after Lys then he could be in trouble as well. Lys seemed to know what he was thinking.

"Thank you for your help, but I'm afraid I must leave now before I get you involved in anything too dangerous."

Kouhei looked up at her as she headed for the door.

"Lys-sama wait, where are you headed?"

She turned and seemed to think about it for a while.

"I suppose I have to find a way back to the realm of the gods so that I may bring Atrer to justice. However, I really don't know where I will go first."

Kouhei seemed to battle with himself over what to do. He didn't want to get involved in anything dangerous, but if she really was the goddess Lys then he couldn't just let her leave by herself.

"Kouhei."

He looked up at the sound of his name.

"Don't worry about me, I still have some of my power, that will be enough."

Although she smiled he could sense some uncertainty in her voice. He hesitated for a moment before speaking again.

"Lys-sama, it will be dark soon and the bandits might attack you. Please stay here for the night and tomorrow if you wish I will accompany you for a while."

The young goddess smiled at the boy.

"Thank you, I look forward to the day when I can repay your kindness."

Kouhei blushed a bit as she walked past him and sat at the table to eat the food he had prepared. As he watched her eat he couldn't help but think that maybe now life wouldn't be so boring.

Vel groaned as he opened his eyes and found himself in a forest. He sat up slowly and rubbed his head as he looked around.

"So this is Tellus." He said to himself.

It was his first time visiting the realm of mortals and so far he wasn't too pleased with it. He was, for the first time, experiencing a slight pain in his head. He stood up and dusted of his clothes, which consisted of a dark blue tunic over which he wore a white robe with blue trimming. He had a belt with a few pouches and a sword attached to it and dark blue pants with white boots. A silver medallion with his symbol, that of the moon hung around his neck beneath his dark blue robe.

He sighed as he began to walk and had to admit that the soft breeze rustling his silver hair felt nice. Still, he was aware that he would need to get a mode of transportation as walking wouldn't get him very far as fast as he wished. He suddenly stopped as he heard a soft rustling in the bushes. The atmosphere was tense as his ice blue eyes scanned his surroundings.

"Whoever is there, come out now." He commanded.

A tall man with black hair and brown eyes stepped out of the forest and chuckled at the god. Around him more men stepped out and he quickly recognized them as bandits from the tales that his father had told him of his travels in Tellus. He regarded them not with fear or weariness, but with distaste.

"You are bandits are you not?" He asked.

The man grinned and looked at the boy who stood before him with amusement.

"We are, but that doesn't really matter now so just hand over your money and we might let you go."

Vel looked at them and couldn't help but think of how foolish they were.

"Bandit, I would advise you to leave my sight at once." He said.

The bandit scowled at the god and then looked at his comrades who placed their hands on their swords. Vel was unfazed as he too took hold of his weapon and drew it out slowly. It was a magnificent weapon of only the best metals. The hilt was of a dark blue color with rich jewels encrusted into it. Vel didn't even bother to get into a battle position as he knew the men would be easily defeated.

The men charged and Vel swiftly blocked and parried all of their attacks throwing in a few kicks and punches. The men stumbled back and fell as the god effortlessly beat them to the ground. As he glanced around at his fallen enemies the leader lunged towards him. Vel turned and kicked him hard sending him flying into a tree. In an instant he was standing over him with the tip of his sword at his throat.

"You worthless waste of existence, you were a fool to cross me." He said coldly.

The bandit's eyes widened as he looked into those piercing blue eyes. He pushed himself closer to the tree as the cold tip of the sword touched his neck.

"Please don't kill me!" He pleaded.

"I'll give you anything you want!"

Vel thought about the bandit's offer for a moment.

"Do you have horses?"
