Imprisoned

Rusty brown shackles
By which neither can shake loose
Fettered, restrained, hopeless
So close and yet so far
Time ticks so slow -
Bending until a second is
Eternity -
A short jaunt becomes an endless trail...

Jades meet sapphires
Both clouded and distraught
The faces of anguish, desperation, and despair
Pain in the black spheres in their eyes
Bodies struggling to break free...

The room is bleak, long, cold, and dark
One solitary light to illuminate these captives
Imprisoned
Hostages of their own hearts...

He growls in frustration and violently writhes
Desperate to break free
She's staring at him with crystalline tears
Not wanting to give up but too tired to go on...
He slams his own eyes shut tight
Fighting back and denying the exit
Of the diamond drops developing in the corners
Of his own gentle eyes...
Be strong for her, he tells himself -
Strength is safety...

She explores the room with her eyes
Having sobbed so much the rainstorms are
But an adapted routine...
She struggles every now and then,
But her energy has been depleted
She fought so hard against the captors when
They caught him in their grasp
She was battered a bit, tossed around
And now her spirit is crushed
Watching him, so determined...
Be strong for him, she tells herself -
I haven't broken yet...

The heart, they say, is a gentle creature
And love is beautiful...

But what is not told is that hearts
Can be corrupted and even broken...
Love hides itself behind a mask...
How could they, these two semi-deceptive beings
Imprison two innocent souls?

They are captive.
They are battered.
They struggle.
But they refuse to let go.

This is togetherness...
This is love...
This imprisonment is temporary...
Their passion is eternal...

They close their eyes, cease their resistance...
And wait...
