I Am My Mother's Child

My mother is stubborn

And a little self-righteous

She has her beliefs

And holds them dear

She is independent and willful

She won't back down from a fight

She never gives up

No matter what odds she faces

She raised her kids alone

For she needs no man

She would fight like a cornered tiger

If she thought I was in danger

She has gloried in my triumphs

Mourned my tragedies

Wiped away my tears of pain

And shared my smiles of joy

Though I admire her virtues

I acknowledge her faults

I call many of both my own

For I am my mother's child
