The Coffee Addict

Desperation in the morning
Itching to escape.
Can't concentrate on anything
Yellow teeth he grates.
The teachers talk on and on
The wait is unbearable
They've been talking since dawn
Those monotonous voices are terrible.

Then
The bell rings and
He jumps
He runs
Dashes out of the school
Around the corner
Cross the street
Take a left
Take another left
Spins into the café
And orders his daily
Coffee.

The teachers and students
Watch with pity
Shaking their heads in sympathy.
Poor, poor hopeless addict--
All he has is coffee.
