EXT. RUNDOWN HOTEL:

The black van pulls up in front of the hotel. In the background, there is a telephone booth.

Oz calmly steps out of the van and stares up at the building. He then reaches into the van and pulls out a CSI tool kit. He then checks the streets about him.

The streets are practically empty.

OZ SHEPHERD

Randall, let's move.

Randall steps out, glances about him and then follows Oz calmly towards the front door.

INT. RUNDOWN HOTEL ROOM - CONTINUOUS:

Oz and Randall quietly enter the room. Oz pulls out a flashlight from the tool kit and shines it about the room.

There are evident signs of a struggle - broken furniture; disturbed patches of dirt and so on.

Randall closes his eyes and sniffs the air.

OZ SHEPHERD

What you got?

RANDALL

Too many people have come through here. Furthermore, without a reference I wouldn't know what I am looking for.

OZ SHEPHERD

It was worth a shot. Guess today we're gonna end up working hard to earn our pay.

RANDALL

We must not delay. The crime scene cleaners are due any moment.

OZ SHEPHERD

Trust me sourpuss. This place is due for demolition. They won't be in any hurry.

Randall growls while Oz walks towards a pool of dried blood in the center of the room. From there he shines the torch along the layout of the room.

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

Okay, that area there, is where Chester and I had our initial tussle.

He waves the torch light over where the window is (the same one he had been looking out of in the start of the episode).

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

The rest was all prior to my arrival.

RANDALL

She put up a fight it would seem.

OZ SHEPHERD

A hell of one.

Randall examines some of the broken debris.

RANDALL

With this much disturbance, she was more than conscious and at full strength.

OZ SHEPHERD

Not that it did her much good. Wait a minute?!

Oz turns sharply towards the door.

RANDALL

What is it?

OZ SHEPHERD

The only way to access this room is the door right?

RANDALL

That is correct.

OZ SHEPHERD

And if you were carrying a person somewhere, how is the best way to do this?

RANDALL

Typically, it is best to have the body slung over the shoulder, legs hanging in front of the carrier.

A transparent image of a male figure carrying a body through the door can be seen.

OZ SHEPHERD

And if you were conscious and knew you were about to die?

Randall's face shows he has made a realization.

The same transparent image walks through the door again, though this time the body is flailing about and makes a grab for the door.

CLOSE UP ON DOOR FRAME

The ghostly image of the person being carried away scrapes their hand along the door frame.

BACK

Oz and Randall approach the door. Oz shines his torchlight down along the door frame.

CLOSE UP ON DOOR FRAME

As Oz shines his torch down the frame there seems to be no evidence of scrape marks.

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

Hmmm...

BACK

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

This is most peculiar.

Oz straightens up, while Randall examines the door carefully, taking an occasional sniff.

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

We got a conscious victim who allowed her kidnapper - non human kidnapper might I add - to transport her here to be killed and she didn't even resist?

RANDALL

Could she have been bound?

OZ SHEPHERD

No. There were no signs of ligature marks or bruising around her ankles or wrists and, before you ask it, Gina confirmed with me that her Tox-screen came back negative.

RANDALL

Then that leaves only one logical course of action that seems plausible.

OZ SHEPHERD

Which is?

RANDALL

She came here willingly.

OZ SHEPHERD

Now why on earth would she want to do that?

RANDALL

You tell me. But this here may help explain things.

Randall points to a section off the door, close to the edge, which is head height.

RANDALL (CONT'D)

I smell human pheromones - single donor; female.

OZ SHEPHERD

Let's see what we got then.

Oz opens up his kit and pulls out the fingerprint dusting kit. He dusts the area pointed out to him by Randall, revealing a palm print, with the finger (prints) disappearing over the door's edge.

Oz examines the newly revealed palm print.

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

Seems like somebody didn't do their job properly. If this does match the victim then that means she pushed this door open.

MONTAGE

Quick scene of a hand grabbing the door by the farthest edge and gently pushing it open.

BACK

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

So our vic was either here to confront or to confer with the suspect, and then it went horribly wrong?

RANDALL

There is more.

Randall is sniffing the air and begins to walk down the hall away from the room door.

RANDALL (CONT'D)

The scent is faint, but still noticeable.

Oz follows behind Randall.

Randall pauses in his tracks. He sniffs the air again.

RANDALL (CONT'D)

She stopped here a moment. There is a thicker, stronger lingering scent.

He then kneels down and sees a small vent along the wall.

RANDALL (CONT'D)

Oz, take a look at this.

Oz bends down as well and shines the torch into the vent. The light catches something stuffed far into the vent.

Using his right hand, Oz pulls the vent cover off easily.

OZ SHEPHERD

The thing was already loose. I barely had to put any strength into it.

He then reaches in and pulls out a neatly folded pile of women's clothes (top and jeans)

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

Odd place to keep your laundry.

RANDALL

They are covered in the same scent.

Oz carefully examines the clothes. Beneath the top he finds a feminine looking wallet. He pulls it forward and opens it. There is a driving licence and some cash.

Oz removes the driver's licence and has a long hard look at it.

CLOSE UP ON DRIVING LICENCE

It belongs to a woman, quite young looking. She also resembles the latest victim.

BACK

OZ SHEPHERD

Looks like we got a face and name for our vic - Sheila Montenegro.

He then puts back the driver's licence.

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

This just doesn't seem right. The vic arrives here on her own accord? Stuffs her clothing in a vent? What was she doing? Serving herself up?

RANDALL

It is difficult to say at this point, but maybe if we continue following the trail we will find more answers.

OZ SHEPHERD

Lead the way.

Randall resumes his "search" while Oz bags the clothing. He then follows after Randall.

EXT. RUNDOWN HOTEL - CONTINUOUS:

Randall and Oz walk out of the hotel as Randall's nose leads them across the street to the pay phone booth.

Randall stops outside of the unoccupied booth.

RANDALL

She was here as well.

Oz opens the booth door and examines the booth from the inside. At first glance nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.

Oz nevertheless opens up his kit.

OZ SHEPHERD

This'll be like searching for a needle in a haystack.

RANDALL

Perseverance will bring results. We will need them. Our word alone will mean nothing to convict those responsible.

OZ SHEPHERD

Yeah... yeah... Shoot 'em all, that's my motto. Let God sort them out.

Randall shakes his head in frustration.

INT. NEW YORK CSI LABORATORIES:

Shannon walks into the Lab where Danielle is working. Shannon does not look pleased at all. Under her arm she has several dossiers.

DANIELLE

Anything?

Shannon slaps the dossiers on to the desk.

SHANNON CRUZ

He's in the wind. I've ordered a patrol car to stay put outside his place, though I doubt it would do any good.

DANIELLE

Do you really think Kirk could have had something to do with all this?

SHANNON CRUZ

This is what he has led us to believe. We need to check his previous cases and make sure he doesn't have a history of tampering with evidence.

DANIELLE

And what if he hasn't? We cannot assume that he has.

SHANNON CRUZ

Then we make sure that the case is still air tight, because once the media gets a hold of this every case he has ever worked on will be contested.

Shannon passes some of the case files to Danielle. They both open one and begin to examine the notes.

Danielle's case is about a charged Rapist but never convicted. She looks at the mug shot of the man before turning over the next page. She then yelps with alarm.

Shannon jumps out of her chair.

SHANNON CRUZ (CONT'D)

What?! What is it?!

DANIELLE

Look!

She hands the dossier over to Shannon. There is a picture of Chester's deceased sister.

DANIELLE (CONT'D)

She was the victim on this case!

Shannon drops the dossier and quickly looks through some of the others. One by one she finds all remaining three victims (not including the latest murder), all of them having been a victim of some other crime.

SHANNON CRUZ

They're all here. We finally got a connection, although not a favorable one. We know how he picked his targets.

DANIELLE

But this is Kirk we're talking about! Why would he do something like this?!

SHANNON CRUZ

There is always a motive, it's our job to find it.

Huxlee peeks out from her pocket and glances at the dossiers.

He then ducks back down into the pocket. Beside him is a cellphone (almost the same size as him)

HUXLEE

How I hate this part.

With two hands, he dials in a phone number and shoves his shoulder on to the connect button. It begins to ring.

SPLIT SCREEN

Oz, who has finished dusting the phone in the phone-booth, picks up his cell phone from his pocket.

OZ SHEPHERD

Oz here.

HUXLEE

(Whisper)

Oz, it's me, Huxlee.

OZ SHEPHERD

Who's phone...? Nevermind. What you got for me?

HUXLEE

Got a suspect and a potential link between the victims. Am waiting for more information on this now.

OZ SHEPHERD

Good. I need you to do something for me while you are waiting. You anywhere near the analysis lab?

HUXLEE

In it.

RANDALL

What are you planning?

Oz covers his phone and turns to Randall.

OZ SHEPHERD

It just occurred to me - the reason why we're in the phone booth in the first place.

(On the phone to Huxlee)

Hux, I need you to get on the computer and load up the Audio Analysis. I'm sure by now they would have secured that anonymous tip and gone through it.

HUXLEE

(Nervous)

I'm not alone.

OZ SHEPHERD

Hux. You're the size of a pea. Do you really think they would notice you?

BACK

Huxlee groans to himself before flying out of the pocket, leaving the phone on. He flies over to the next computer and glances at the screen.

He then pushes the mouse with great effort till he is able to select the required program.

He eventually gets what he needs by jumping on individual keys and even the mouse buttons where required.

HUXLEE

User friendly my thorax.

He hits the play button.

AUDIO 911 OPERATOR

911, what is your emergency?

Danielle and Shannon are both surprised by the sudden playing of the audio. Shannon moves closer to the computer and sees nothing out of the ordinary but the activated program.

AUDIO FEMALE CALLER

I am sorry for all the trouble I have caused. Rest assured, it will end today.

AUDIO 911 OPERATOR

Excuse me? Miss? Where are you? I'm going to send someone over right now. Just stay where you are.

AUDIO FEMALE CALLER

The one you call the Mauler can only be stopped by another of his kind. If I don't confront him now, he will take another life. You have done all you can, and I applaud you for your efforts but now I must set things right.

The sound of a phone hanging up is heard.

AUDIO 911 OPERATOR

This is dispatch calling all available cars...

Shannon stops the player. She seems very thoughtful.

DANIELLE

I'm really sorry about that. It happens quite often. I think it's a bug in the system.

Shannon says nothing and reaches in for her phone. She goes to dial when she suddenly sees that her phone is connected with someone.

SHANNON CRUZ

Hello? Who's this?

OZ SHEPHERD (O.S.)

(With a fake Chinese Accent)

You! Lady! You keep me waiting! I busy man! You make owder now yes?

SHANNON CRUZ

Pardon? What is this?

OZ SHEPHERD

You call Shin Chin Westaraunt. You make owder now. Me vewy busy! No time fow games!

SHANNON CRUZ

(Confused)

I'm sorry. I'm not hungry.

She hangs up and gives Danielle a baffled look. Danielle merely shrugs.

EXT. RUNDOWN MOTEL - CONTINUOUS:

Oz pockets his phone and breathes a sigh of relief. As he glances over towards Randall, he sees him shaking his head dismally.

RANDALL

That... was pathetic.

OZ SHEPHERD

Oh right, and I bet you could have done better?

Randall says nothing, merely glares at Oz.

OZ SHEPHERD (CONT'D)

It worked alright? We got what we needed.

RANDALL

Which was?

OZ SHEPHERD

Clarification. She did come looking for him. And since we have her address...

(Shows Randall the Wallet)

...we can now find out why.
