Must I kill her?
You've wanted to for ages.
No. You're lying. I can't—
You do.
I shouldn't want to kill her. I don't want to kill her.
But she deserves it, doesn't she? After all she did.
Yes—I mean no—I mean I don't know.
You can do it, you know?
What if I get caught?
You won't.
I'll have to face the consequences sooner or later.
Not if you do it right.
I—I—
You're hesitating.
She's my mother.
She hit you for things that weren't your fault.
She just shows her love differently.
Liar. You don't believe that. She was a selfish woman who blames you for her mistakes.
I—I can't.
You can.
I shouldn't.
You will.
I…
Do it.
The hand holding the knife shot down, rose, and fell again.
That was messy. Call the police.
What have I done?
You did what was necessary. Let those…humans take care of it. You killed her in self-defense after she tried to kill you first.
I can't do this.
Will you run away now?
I—
Will you let her win this way?
No—
Your arms are littered with bruises and there are scars on your back. That will be enough.
You made me do this.
I did nothing of the sort. You did this because you wanted to.
No, I couldn't.
Stop lying to yourself. It's pathetic.
I—
There was nothing wrong with killing her. Why feel guilty?
She's my mother.
Was.
I—
Shh. The ambulance is here. Cry to them.
The paramedic lead the hysterical girl to the back of the ambulance and listened with compassionate eyes as she spoke haltingly of her mother's temper and how she tried to kill her. She cried and sobbed that she didn't want to kill the older woman but didn't want to die either. He bandaged her wounds and held her hand as she was transported to the hospital. There, a nurse lead her to a room and ordered her to rest for the night. As the footsteps faded, she sat up and unraveled the bandages and tore the IV from her arm.
She watched her pale smooth skin that had only minutes before been peppered with dark spots and smiled darkly. Twin lights drew out of her body as she fell forward, unconscious, and they floated to the window and grew larger until they became two human bodies.
It's your turn now. Are you with me?
Always.
As one of the lights danced happily near the window, the other shifted into the shape of a teenage boy. He smiled awkwardly at the girl and turned to jump off the ledge.
"Sweet dreams. It's time that our blessings do you good."
He jumped.
