Title: The Dare

Summary: For me, it was a simple dare. All I had to do was sneak into Even Sander's house and steal a pair of his boxers. But getting caught with said boys' boxers wasn't part of the dare. Nice.

Chapter Twelve

Why did Evan have to be there? Why? Someone just answer that simple question for me. Please? I swear my heart stopped when Lily sent me that text message.

I pulled out my phone and flipped it open; rereading the text message she had sent: Stop being so friendly with your brother! Evans getting suspicious.*Lily*

Damn. I can't act friendly with my brother or Ashton because I had supposedly met them earlier that day. Stupid Evan! He wasn't even supposed to be there. Stupid Zack for letting him come. But then again Zack doesn't know what the butthead is doing to me. But he can't find out either, at least not yet. I'll tell him when everything is over with. That way Zack can kick his ass! I want a perfect record…which was somewhat ruined by me being late twice. But that's not that bad. I've only been late to school twice since I was in second grade.

I jumped and hit my head on the roof of the car when I heard pounding on my car window. There stood Zack laughing with an idiotic look on his face. Ashton stood next to him shaking his head at my brother. Was he staying the night? I turned the car off and got out, slamming the door behind me. The kind of slam that says 'Don't-mess-with-me-because-I-feel-like-ripping-a-dolls-head-off-but-I-don't-have-a-doll-so-I'll-substitute-your-head-instead.' I glared at him waiting for his stupid moment to finish.

"Man!" Zack gasped, sucking in air. "Did you see her face?"

"Yeah," Ashton said, nodding. I could tell he was trying to hold in a laugh. "I did."

"It's okay to laugh, ya know." I sighed, pointing to my brother. "I'm use to it anyways."

"Nah, I'm good." He smiled, coughing a bit. Ha! He coughed and that proves he's not okay. He so wants to laugh. It's not good to hold in a laugh. At least that's what I believe. And that is way I'm always laughing when something is funny. But then again Zack tells me I laugh at almost everything. But I don't think so because if that were true then I'd be laughing at what an idiot Zack looks like at the moment. Maybe I'm still a little grumpy from earlier at Cold Stones.

"I'm going in." I mumbled, leaving Zack clutching his stomach.

"W-wait!" Zack gasped.

I didn't stop and I didn't have to turn around to know Ashton was following me into the house. "You're staying the night?"

"Yeah, I don't really want to go home." He answered, stuffing his hands in his pockets. I could tell by the look on his face that he really didn't like being home.

"Cool." I said, pulling out my key as I reached the front door. "Is he still standing there laughing like an idiot?"

Ashton turned his head to the driveway. "Yeah, he's still there but I think he's on the floor."

"It wasn't that funny." I sighed, pushing the door open. It was dark, too dark. I thought I had left on the light in the upstairs bathroom but there was no hint of light at all in the somewhat small house. I really don't like the dark. It always reminds me of scary movies. Like how the girl walks in like nothing would ever happen to her and boom! A big alien runs her through and eats her. Or a weird made up ghost type thing that makes her disappear of the face of the earth.

"Your brothers' weird." Ashton ran a hand through his hair. "He always has been."

"Tell me something I don't know." I said, turning on the entrance light.

"I didn't know you were into bringing boys home." The sudden voice coming from the couch made me cling to Ashton. This is why it reminds me of scary movies! "But I guess it would've happened sooner or later."

"Mom?" I can't believe she's home. I didn't see her car outside. It's been almost a month since she has been home at night. She usually stops by during the day to leave us money or to pick something up. "What are you doing home?"

"I…" she paused for a second. "…just wanted to see my kids. I don't like leaving you guys alone for too long."

I tried not to snort but it somehow slipped out. "Where's Fi?"

"She's in bed. I tucked her in and everything." She smiled, seeming to be proud of herself because she did something I've been doing for most of Fiona's life. She eyed Ashton up and down. "Who are you?"

"I'm Ashton, Zack's friend," he greeted, extending his hand to her, which she took.

"So you're going after your brothers friends?" mom asked, releasing Ashton's hand and returning to the couch. I took the time to see she was wearing a night gown. I don't have to be a genius to figure out that she was staying the night. But I did have to be physic to figure out why. "That's pretty low."

"It's not like that." I growled, walking over to the open kitchen. "Zack invited him to stay the night."

"Where is your brother?" She asked, looking past me and Ashton to the opened door. Did she just notice that he wasn't there? Some mom you are.

"Do you hear laughing?" I offered a jumpstart. I took the ice cream from the freezer and looked at her. She nodded. "That's him."

"Is he okay?" She wondered. I wanted to ask her if she really cared. But I didn't really want to be mean to her. I mean, she is my mom and I will love her no matter what she does or what she says.

"No. He has an incurable disease called idiocy." So instead I decided to let my frustration out on Zack by making fun of him. I grabbed a spoon and dug in. "I think you should take him to the hospital to get it checked out." I went around the counter and sat on a stool.

She was about to answer but Zack came in the door. "I told you guys to wait. What if I was dying?" he looked at me and Ashton before turning to mom. "Oh! Hey mom!" he said, surprised. "What are you doing home?"

"I just want to see you guys," she smiled, standing up. "Is that so wrong?"

"Actu –" I stopped when someone elbowed me in the stomach. I glanced over at Ashton who was shaking his head. What did he come from? "No."

"Not at all," Zack agreed, coming over to me and Ashton. He swiped the ice cream from me and closed it.

"Hey!" I shouted, jumping up and running over to him. "I was eating that!"

"Exactly, was." He said, closing the cap and tossing it in the freezer. He looked up at mom. "I just didn't expect to see you tonight."

Yeah, I –" She was interrupted by Zack.

"We're going to go and watch a movie in my room." He smiled at her, pushing me towards the stairs and motioning for Ashton to follow. "Good night."

"Wait!" she said quickly, stopping us in our tracks. "I would like to talk to your sister."

"Uh, okay," Zack said slowly, moving away from me and sending me a confused look. I shrugged. "We'll see you upstairs." He then turned and walked up the stairs with Ashton following.

I stared at them until they disappeared up the steps. Unwillingly, I walked over to the couch and sat down. I watched as she sat down next to me, playing with her thumbs. Slowly, I asked, "What's wrong, mom?"

"Phil and I have talked about taking Fiona to live with us." She said fast, looking for a reaction from me.

"Good. You'll finally be a real mother." I answered indifferently, not giving her any real reaction.

"Danielle," she warned. I think I heard sadness in her tone but I could be mistaken. "I was home as much as I could've been when you were younger. I had to work three jobs then. I raised money for you."

"I know." I nodded, moving my eyes across the room. Anywhere was fine as long as I didn't have to look at her "Sorry. I'm just a little tired."

"Besides, Zack will be turning eighteen soon." She continued. "I'll still help you guys pay for everything but you'll both have to start helping. I can't take care of you guys forever."

I almost laughed at that. Since when had she ever been there for me or Zack? I was kind of jealous that she would be more of a mother to Fiona then she ever was to us. But I wanted what was best for Fiona. Besides, we never really took care of her much. She was always at Mrs. Young's. I looked at mom and she was off in her own little world. Now I know where I get it from. "Are you okay?"

"It's Phil," she sighed, standing up.

What's your point?" I asked kindly; at least as kind as I could.

"What I'm I going to do with him?" she asked, looking at me. Did she expect something from me?

"Mom?"

"Honestly Dani, I just don't know what to do. He wants more kids." She sighed again. He wants more kids yet he doesn't even take care of Fi? His own daughter. I mean they want to but shouldn't they get used to being parents and let Fi grow up a little?

"You should get him neutered." I suggested, trying not to laugh.

"Neutering is for dogs," she protested, looking at me appalled.

"I know," I smiled, standing up also. I don't think she was very happy with that answer. But if he's causing her problems then they should break up so mom can come back home. It's open for her but she would rather spend every waking minute at his house. "I'm going to go watch that movie with Zack now." I walked past her, pausing for a moment to consider giving her a hug. I decided against it and went on.

"We'll come for Fiona on Saturday." She said as I walked away from her. Before going up the stairs I heard her say, "I love you, Dani."

I ran up the stairs, taking two at a time. I walked down the dark hallway only to stop in front of Fiona's door. I stared at it debating if I should go in or not. But I didn't. Instead I continued to walk up to Zack's room; leaving her to sleep. I'd tell her tomorrow.

It surprised me at how fast Thursday came around. I only had two more days with Fi and I had yet to tell Zack anything about it. He came into Fi's room twice asking why I was packing it. But I could tell him so instead I'd lie and he'd believe me. Fiona didn't take the news well so maybe that's why I'm hesitant to tell him. Good thing I told her not to tell him.

I jumped when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. It took it out and looked at the screen, it read Master Evan. I really need to change that. I pressed ignore and slipped it back into my pocket. I hadn't talked to Evan since the day at Cold Stones. In class I would ask to go to the nurses office just before the bell rang so I didn't have to talk to him and I've been hiding out in the library during lunch.

"Dani!" I froze, glancing behind me only to fell relief as I saw Zack and Ashton coming towards me. "Hey lil' sis." He laughed, patting my head. I glanced around to make sure no one heard him.

"Hey guys," I said, pushing his hand away. "What's up?"

Zack shrugged, "Nothing much." his smile faded, giving me a look of confusion. "What happened to you?"

I shrugged in return. "Nothing really."

"He's talking about lunch, just to let you know." Ashton said, punching my brother in the arm playfully. "Where were you?"

"O-oh." I stuttered, looking away. "I was in the clinic." I turned around and started walking again. I couldn't talk to them about my problems.

Zack stopped me and felt my forehead. "Are you okay? Do you want me to take you home?"

"Yes and no." I said, slapped his hand away. "Don't you have soccer practice today?"

"That's right." Ashton said suddenly, turning to me and smiling. "I'm still the team's goalie. We were going to tell you at lunch but you never came."

I looked at Zack. "I'm still center forward." He smiled too, hugging me. I think he was hugging me too tight because I just coughed up my spleen (or whatever the thing is called when something squishes you).

"That's awesome you guys." I squealed loudly, blushing when everyone turned to look. "You deserve it."

"I'm still the best soccer player in the world!" Zack proclaimed loudly, scaring a passing freshmen. "And I always will be!"

"Forget what I said," I mumbled dryly. "You're an arrogant prink that doesn't deserve anything."

"Awe, C'mon Dani," Zack ruffled my hair. And I actually fixed my hair this morning. Damn. "I'm just playing around. Don't spoil my fun."

I couldn't help but let out a laugh at Zack. He did really deserve it. He trains so hard and doesn't cheat or says anything bad to his teammates or the other team's players. All in all, Zack has always been a great person. Except for the time he let a small box of crickets in my room when I was ten. All those creepy green jumpers doing their jumping thing. Ugh. I still get goose bumps from that day. And I have yet to get him back for that. Now that I remember, that will be my excuse when he asks 'why?' and the rest will go down in history like that big fat man on Christmas. I like this idea…

Evan

"When are you guys going to be back?" I asked my parents. They were heading towards the door with a butler behind them carrying luggage.

"In a few weeks, sweetie." Mom said, kissing me on the cheek. She smiled and said, "You'll be okay wont you?"

"Of course," I scoffed, pulling away from her. "I'm use to it." I was hoping that would make them feel guilty but there was nothing but fake smiles as they made their way out. "I hope you guys enjoy yourselves."

"This isn't a vacation Evan," Dad said gruffly, taking moms hand and tugging her out the door. "No parties." He yelled before the door slammed shut.

Rolling my eyes, I walked out of the foyer and towards the kitchen. I pulled out a stool and sat in the silence. I hated the silence, it was so…loud. I pulled out my phone and looked at the time on the screen. Throwing it down, I got up and went over to the freezer. I stared at the napoleon ice cream that sat untouched. Why I was smiling, I had no clue but it just reminded me of Dani for some strange reason.

And thinking of her, she had been ignoring me since the day at Cold Stones. Out of the many considerations I have being ignored isn't one of them. Even if it's by Drama Queen Elsie or Nerd Dani; although I'm actually wondering if being ignored by Elsie is such a bad or not. I'm thinking the latter. I wouldn't mind that much, especially since she would never ignore me in the first place. But I will not put up with it if it's coming from Dani. I just don't like it.

I've called her fifty seven times in the past two days, not that I'm counting, and left her messages every time. But she still ignores me. I haven't even threatened her at all either, she should be grateful. She wouldn't show up at lunch and she would go to the nurse's office just before the bell rang so I never got to talk to her after class. She's ignoring me completely. Though come tomorrow she won't be turning the other cheek anymore. I won't let her.

Closing the freezer, I left the kitchen and went to my room.

"Didn't it ever occur to you that Elsie is a crazy son of a bitch?" Gavin asked, leaning again the wall casually. He turned his head to Trista and said, "No offense to your best friend and all, babe."

Trista let out a throaty laugh. "None taken," she said, leaning against the wall next to her boyfriend. She twirled a strand of hair in her hand and looked up at the ceiling.

"I thought girls were loyal to one another," I stated, rising an eyebrow. "Yet you're talking about her as if you hate her."

She just shrugged, saying, "I do."

"And your friends with her, why?" I drawled as I took a peek around the corner watching as the object of our conversation flirted with Zack Zimmerman.

"I don't really know," she said, looking confused. "I think she thinks I'm like her slave or something."

I chuckled at the term slave. What a nice use of words that was. "Really," I murmured, narrowing my eyes as I watched Zack tried to sneak away. It was gross how she threw herself at boys even though she was dating me. "I think I'm going to break up with her."

"You just started dating," Gavin stated.

"I know but I really don't like her anymore," I said, looking away from them and leaning next to Gavin too. "Except in bed."

"Ha, dude," Gavin laughed suddenly. "Remember when we would say 'in bed' after every sentence?"

I remembered. How could I forget? "That was in eighth grade," I added, smirking as I caught sight of Dani weaving through the crowd. "Good times."

"Yeah, they were." He agreed, taking Trista's hand in his own.

I pushed myself up from the wall and patted Gavin's arm, saying, "I've got to go."

"Go where?" he asked. He probably wasn't even curious; all he wanted was some excuse not to go to class. Though the dumbass has his girlfriend next to him, he can go neck her or something.

"Class," I answered just as the bell rang. With a wave, I took off in the direction of the classroom. People were pushing and shoving to get to where they were going. Each time I felt a push against me I would glare at the person and continue on without a word. They weren't worth words at the moment.

As soon as I went through the door everyone was out of their seat talking. Mr. Sweats wasn't anywhere to be seen. Good, so Gavin was right about there being a substitute today. I scanned the room and spotted the very person I wanted to see the most, bounding over as soon as I saw her. "Hey short stuff."

She looked up from the notebook she was writing in and glared at me. "What do you want?"

With a smirk, I sat in the desk next to hers. "Nothing much." I shrugged. I met her eyes with a snooty gaze. "Why haven't you answered your phone?"

"I lost it." She said, writing more in her notebook. "My sister dropped it in the toilet."

"Now I know your lying," I rolled my eyes.

"How would you know!" she hissed loudly, green eyes shooting venom at me.

I shook my head and laughed, "Because you said two different things." I pointed out. "Which is it? You lost your phone or its broken?"

"I –"

"Exactly," I interrupted, running my finger over the edge of the desk I was at. "You're ignoring me."

"Well can you blame me!" she said, bowing her head closer to the desk so her hair fell over her face. She tilted her head slightly, giving me a view of eyes through hair. "Your aren't exactly my favorite person, ya know."

"Oh," I faked a cry, sarcasm dripping off my tongue. "You really hurt me Dani, you really did."

"Good."

"No need to be so nice," I smiled, reaching across and poking her.

"I think there is," she demurred. My smile widened when she sighed.

The teacher had just walked in. "Sit down and shut up." She grumbled, slamming her purse on the desk.

"I don't think teachers can tell students to shut up," Rachel Hopkins spoke up. Her child like voice annoyed the crap out of me.

"Does it look like I care?" she said. When Rachel shook her head she continued, "Open you textbooks to chapter two and answer the questions at the end." She sat down, quickly adding, "I don't want any talking."

Everyone in the class just sat there and stare at her for awhile but eventually they all stared to open their textbooks. I raised my hand, "I don't have my textbook with me."

"Share with someone," she snapped, opening the book in her hands.

"Hey –"

"Don't even think about it." Dani growled as I scooted my desk besides hers.

"Too late." I said, holding back a laugh. I heard her sigh and continue to read. "You aren't mad at me are you?"

"Mad?" she asked, bewildered. She turned to look at me quizzically. "Now why would you think that?"

"Dani," I warned. It seemed that I was always warning her.

"Why shouldn't I be mad?" she whispered harshly. "You're an ass the first time we meet, you turn me into your slave, have me do pointless crap for days, then suddenly your all buddy buddy with me?" I could tell she had to force herself to look away. "This isn't how friendship works by the way."

"No talking!" the sub practically screeched.

Ignoring her, I turn back to Dani. "What if I don't want friendship?"

"Yeah, well that's too bad for you." She said, nudging me in the ribs. "Leave me alone so I can finish this."

"Alright, but I need you to come to my house after school today." I told her. I heard another sigh and started reading the words in the book.

If you look at my profile page it gives you updates and all that jazz. And I do advise you to look at it. Please.

Anyways, I've revising this story. It's going to be more professional and better than it is now. But still silly and awkward. Lol. I hope you will reread it when I do rewrite it and give your opinion on it. All your comments matter to me.

Unrelated:

I really want a Taco. I always want a taco…It's the Mexican in me. I'm guessing.

I think that's it for unrelated. As of this point in time my life is pretty boring. Except for the time when Matt snuck into my room wearing a Batman costume. I was scared and annoyed that I didn't get to wear a batwoman costume. Life is no fair when Matt is around. He gets to have all the fun.

OH! Wait! One more unrelated. There was a big storm the other day, me – being afraid of lightning and thunder – and my mom were out in the living room watching tv really loud. We were both scared. Especially when the lights went out. It was pitch black. I don't like it when it goes pitch black. I'm telling you! Evil aliens from plant x will come for you in the dark. I hope that doesn't scare you like it scares me.

No wait…One more (so I say). It's been raining all week and my mom sent me and Nick to go get the mail. It started pouring while we were out and we had to hurry back to the house –because God forbid we have our mail box close to our house. While I was putting the mail under my shirt so it wouldn't get wet I ran into a tree. I screamed and yelled "Ah! Tree!" I dropped the mail and got it all wet. But did nick or mom ask if I was ok? No. No they didn't. They cared more about the mail. Actually nick didn't. Nick was enjoying my pain. I love my evil non caring family (Jk! They do love me. They just have trouble showing it).

A.N. REVIEWERS:

a girl who wants u updatin': Hey you! I updated…obviously. My pet raccoon slapped me after he read your comment (Yes, he can read). He scolded me for making you 'unhappy'. I'm sorry. And I think you have a life. Your are reading my story, aren't you? There you have it. Lol

sittinghere4u: Sorry I made you wait. I'm such a terrible person. Go ahead and virtual slap me. If it makes you feel better. If it doesn't…well, then go ahead and slap me anyways.

Tabby: Yo! Tabby! What up fellow flamingo lover? Didn't you know that if you feed a flamingo skittles they become rainbow colored? You should try it sometime. Lol. YOU ARE NOT STUPID! You just aren't smart…Actually, I totally think you are because you're reading my story. Thanks for that btw. I've been in a permanent marker fight before. I got a week of detention for it too (the marker stayed that long too. I scrubbed so fricking hard!). So did Paul. Haha. I got in trouble even though he started it. I'm sad now. Not really! Bring it on! I'll get you or the person you send back.

Writing4Eternity: Actually its July 30, 2009…but thanks for the reminder. I would have updated sooner but I haven't even been home for a while. Plus, three days ago all my documents vanished. I think it was when I stupidly let my seven year old cousin play on my laptop. Never again!

Xoxo anna: I made you wait…I'm really sorry. You can virtual slap me too if it makes you feel better in a sick perverse way (I'm totally just kidding) but go ahead. Hit me with your best shot!

Shadowwolf403: I've actually been really busy. Work, summer school, not being home a lot, manual labor in my backyard (A huge backyard btw). But school is starting up again. I'm quiting my job. So I'll have a lot more time to update. Summer is never the best time to work on a story…Anyways, sorry about the wait.

AlittleNOTsane: Cool name btw. They are good reasons aren't they? I've been working on the new version whenever I get the chance. Chapters 3-6 should be out in august.

ShadowFalls: You made me cry. Why do you people have to make me cry? But thank you for understanding. I'm going to be updating more now that summer is ending.

.write: Because their mother never got married. She's a slutty mommy. And I thank you for your honesty but I really feel the need to write a better version. Though this one will always be #1!

Bangle Meister: I updated! You cant be mad! I actually don't know who she'll end up with myself. Maybe I should put a poll up. Hm…but if she does end up with Evan please don't kill me. I like living in the world of the living. That's why I'm still alive…that line reminded me of the princess bride. Which Im going to go watch now. I hope you like the chapter.

.Angel: I like ninjas! They are so much freaking better than pirates (save Johnny Depp). Yes, Evan is secretly in love with spongebob. It's kind of scary if you ask me. But then again im totally in love with him too. I moved…again. And I'm moving again in November. Then in March when I turn eighteen. So much moving! Congrats on the babies! My cat had four kittens and one died so I feel your pain. I'm going to update a lot more so don't worry! BE HAPPY!
