Chapter Three: Lunch
BEEEEEEP!
Period two was officially over and all grade nine students left their classrooms and made their way to the cafeteria. Monica, May, and Mimi walked into the cafeteria together and scanned the room, searching for an open table.
"Lunch!" Mimi chirruped happily.
"Sushi," Monica added, smiling.
"I hope it's not pasta…" May said, gloomily.
The three friends finally found a table on the opposite side of the cafeteria and sat down. After eating for a while, An entered the cafeteria and walked over to the table.
"I smell lettuce…" she said, sniffing the air. She found who was the owner of the green vegetable.
"Oh my god!" she shrieked at Mimi, "A sub! I'm allergic to lettuce!"
She took the piece of lettuce from Mimi's sub and threw it into the trashcan.
"Good," An relaxed, "you're clean."
"But I like lettuce..." Mimi whined silently to herself.
"Oh my gosh!" Monica gasped and pointed at Joe, who had just entered the cafeteria.
"It's Joe! Hide Mimi! We must protect her!"
"What the-" Mimi looked around confused.
"Mimi!" Joe called across the cafeteria. He started walking over to the table.
"To go…or not to go…" Mimi considered, "that is the real question."
"There is no question!" May waved her arms.
"Quick," Monica alerted, "he's advancing! Run!"
In that time, Joe had arrived at the table.
"Hi Mimi!" he waved.
"Now look what you've done!" Monica grumbled.
"Um," Mimi blushed, "I have to go now…"
Mimi got up from the table and turned around, ready to stalk off in the opposite direction. Joe quickly grabbed Mimi's wrist.
"Mimi! Wait!"
"Joey?" Mimi breathed.
All of a sudden, dramatic music came on. Mimi and Joe looked into each others eyes.
"Joe…"
"Mimi…"
"May!" Monica growled, "Turn the dramatic music off!"
"Aww, but it's fun!" May whined. She reluctantly turned off the personal radio she had taken out from her bag.
"This is so intense…" An commented, digging into her bag of popcorn, "I hope somebody dies!"
May reached over and took a handful of popcorn from An's bag. She popped it into her mouth. All of a sudden, she spit it out.
"Eww!" she spat, "I hate sunflower oil!"
All of a sudden, An stopped chewing.
"What?! Sunflower oil?! No! I'm allergic to sunflower oil!"
An spat out her popcorn and shoved it into May's hands. She dashed out of the cafeteria.
"You idiot," Monica flicked a crumb at May, "they don't put sunflower oil in popcorn."
"Yeah, I know. I was hungry, and I saw her allergy list in family studies."
May had a goofy grin plastered on her face as she ate more of the popcorn.
There was a silence until Monica broke it.
"Hey, what happened to Mimi and Joe?"
Monica and May slowly turned to see Mimi and Joe, still frozen in place with Joe still holding onto Mimi's wrist.
"You know we need the dramatic music to continue…" Joe complained.
"No comment…" Monica said.
"Just turn it on!" Mimi scowled.
"Okie dokie!" May smiled and turned on her radio.
"Sunshine lollipops and rainbows everything, what's wonderful is what I feel when, we're together," the radio burst out with the song by Leslie Gore.
"Wrong station, dimwit!" Monica glared.
"Oops."
May changed to the right station and the dramatic music from earlier continued.
"Joe…" Mimi said again.
"Mimi…" Joe sighed.
"I'm here!" Poopie interrupted, walking up to the table. He looked at Joe's and Mimi's linked hands.
"Now's my chance to practice my new martial arts skills," Poopie thought happily, "everyone will be so impressed!"
Poopie rose his hand to chop Joe's and Mimi's hands.
"Poopie! No!" May shouted.
It was too late. Joe and Mimi and broken off from Poopie's chop. Their moment was completely over and May decided to turn off the radio.
"I like dead things," An said out of nowhere.
"What the hell…when did you get here?" Monica asked.
"I don't know…" An admitted, "It's a mystery!"
"Actually, I went to the guidance office. There was no sunflower oil in the popcorn. I'm here to kill May."
May looked up at An fearfully.
"You say that so casually…"
"I know…" An laughed evilly and pulled out a pair of scissors.
May's eyes widened.
"Poopie did it!" She pointed at Poopie and hid behind Monica.
"Hmm?" Poopie looked up from his sandwich.
"Aw man. I've been trying to make that kid talk all day," An complained, "He won't talk to me. I can't hit a kid with no vocal cords! So I guess you'll be my substitute."
"Mimi did it! Hit her!" May blurted out.
Joe tensed as soon as he heard those words. He quickly ran in front of Mimi and held his arms apart, protecting her.
"If you want her," he threatened An, "you'll have to go through me first!"
"Oh Joeyboo!" Mimi cried, "don't sacrifice your life for me!"
"It's out of love. I'd do anything for you!"
"Oh Joeyboo…" Mimi sighed.
"Ahh!" An shouted, "The mushiness! It's suffocating!"
She ran out of the cafeteria. It suddenly became very quiet once again at the lunch table. The only sound was the 'zip' from May's lunch bag as she opened it.
"Crud…" she cursed, "pasta again…"
A/N: Yes, a very short chapter. We just wanted to show that there's still something going on between Mimi and Joe. Don't worry, there'll be drama later ;D oo, and longer chapters!
