Chapter 1-Auditions

After their most recent concert, the popular boy-band BUCKLES sat down and talked.

"The 3rd anniversary since he died, huh?" the bassist said solemnly. "We haven't done a good job singing either," the drummer replied.

The guitarist stood up. "We need a new singer."

"Zaizen-san! You're late again!" the teacher yelled, pointing at 14-year-old Emiri Zaizen. "So what? I get good grades and you could always give me makeup work," Emiri replied.

"Just sit down," Sensei said.

Emiri Zaizen was in 9th grade and she wore the boys' uniform. She was extremely tomboyish and always had her hair in a ponytail. She is sarcastic, lazy, but fairly smart.

She sighed as she took out a pencil and some paper. 'It's so boring today. America gets school days off on Saturdays. Why's Japan any different?' Emiri thought. Her life wasn't that exciting. All she did was read, play football, and do chores.

Just then, the announcement bell rang:

"ATTENTION, STUDENTS. I'M SURE YOU ARE ALL AWARE OF THE MODERN BOY-BAND BUCKLES, AM I RIGHT?"

Everyone cheered. Including Emiri. BUCKLES was her favorite band.

"SPEAKING OF BUCKLES, THEY WILL BE HAVING AUDITIONS IN THE AUDITORIUM TODAY AT 15:00-18:00. ONLY SINGERS ARE WELCOME AND BOYS ARE A SHOE-IN TO WIN. ANYWAY, YOUR TEST SCORES ARE BELOW..." the speaker trailed off. Emiri's mind was drifting to the imagery of BUCKLES.

BUCKLES has 4 members including Kyou Aikawa, Seiki Harada, Hikaru Iwasaki, and her favorite, Ken Kawabe. She has had a crush on Ken when she first heard of BUCKLES.

Oh, how she wanted to audition. But, they said guys are most likely to win. 'I'll go to see the winner, then,' Emiri thought to herself.

Emiri was a pretty good singer, and she's practiced, using BUCKLES' songs.

After school, Emiri walked to the auditorium to see her classmates testing their voices on the mic. Emiri sat right behind the manager.

Finally, she saw a boy from her class come on stage. The music, Metal Fantasy started playing. Emiri was curious to listen, so she leaned forward.

He had hit all the wrong notes and his pitch was off. Emiri wasn't even sure he was singing that song.

The manager yelled, "GET OUT!! Your horrible! There is no way you'd be able to pass! GET OOOUUUUTTT!!"

"Wow, what a temper," Emiri muttered.

Time passes with bad singers

"Dammit, all the other schools were just like this: horrible!" the manager buried his face is his hands. "Is there anyone, and I mean, ANYONE, who wants to audition!?" the manager screamed.

Emiri didn't know what made her, but she spoke, "May I try out, please?"

"B-But you're a girl.." the manager stuttered, recovering from his screaming.

"And?" Emiri put her hands on her hips.

"Oh, whatever," the manager sat back down.

Emiri ran over on stage. She knew exactly which song she was going to sing.

'Route Aspiration'

She raised the microphone to her mouth and sang the words to the karaoke.

(prelude) I am confused...

(verse 1)Running so we won't meet,

We were so warm in my heart

You bit the chain, the silk ribbon,

You let it all go...

(Bridge 1) But now, as I run upon my adventure, my own dreams

piercing through my body...

GRAB MY HAND!

(chorus 1) Your voice led me, Your singing guided me,

But my weakness held me back,

Your face has changed; I have to start all over again.

Race back home and run to my new place,

My destiny...

I spoke to you in my Dreams...

Emiri breathed heavily after that. She looked over and saw the music guy and the manager crying.

The manager swallowed before saying anything.

"Do you have enough free time? Do you join any after-school-clubs?" the manager asked. "Only football," Emiri replied.

"Not important, now please fill out this paper work," the manager said as he handed her the huge stack of papers.

"W-What!? You mean I'm in!?" Emiri was wide-eyed, surprised. BUCKLES was an all-boys band.

"Yes, you sing awesomely! You should have heard yourself!" the manager smiled. "Um, thanks," Emiri was kind of grossed out by this homeless-looking manager.

"Oh, and we're going on tour next week," the manager called as he walked away.

"What the hell did I get myself into?" Emiri sighed.

"Mom, Dad?" Emiri spoke up at dinner. "I tried out for the boy-band BUCKLES today at school. I passed, and they want your guys' signatures, so if you could please sign.." Emiri didn't finish.

"Emiri! That's an all-boys band! I can't let you in that band!" her father retorted. Her mom sat there peacefully, listening to the conversation.

"Honey, let Emiri do what she wants. Her life won't be in danger or anything, however, I do expect her to pass school," her mother raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah! How'ya gonna do that, kid!" her father stood up. "The manager said that we will have a private tutor," Emiri smirked.

"Well, I don't have a problem signing," her mother took the paper and signed. She nudged her husband, "You too!" "Okay," her father said reluctantly.

Emiri finished changing and got into her bed, ready to turn off the lights when her mother walked in.

"Emiri, your father was right about the all-boy thing. What if you don't get a room and you have to share a room with the guys? Where are you going to change?" her mother looked concerned.

"Okasan (mother), I have it handled. There will be a bathroom on the tour bus," Emiri reassured her mom. "You guys are going on tour?" Her mom was surprised.

"Yeah, next week. That's when I meet the band," Emiri looked down. "For how long?" Her mom asked.

"For about a year. It's world-wide," Emiri said. Her mother gulped, "At least you get to see different cultures of the world," Her mother looked as if she might cry.

"Mom, are you crying?" Emiri tilted her head. "I'm going to miss you. Your only 14, we won't even be there for your birthday," she buried her face in her hands.

"Mom, I am a teenager, I can take care of myself now," Emiri hugged her mom.

After that, the rest of the week went by smoothly, along with Emiri's heart pounding from anticipation and the popularity from auditions.

Then, the time came.

Yay! First chapter out! I don't think there will be much romance until the end for you sickos. I might lower the rating to K+. There's no need for a T rating. Anyway, I think this is kind of a mix between Ouran High School Host Club and BECK.
