Instant Chat Messengers Aren't That Fun

emmy01: who is this?

YourWonderman: I knew you'd IM me back.

emmy01: i'm serious, how'd you get my sn

YouWonderman: -wink- That's for me to know and you to find out.

Emmy stared blankly at her monitor. What the fuck? "God, I'm going to die," she groaned, nearly stomping her foot in frustration. Pulling a face, she typed on.

emmy01: do you go to my high school?

YourWonderman: Probably.

emmy01: are you kidding me? wtf?

YourWonderman: Okay, okay. I do go to Montgomery High. Enough info for you? ;)

emmy01: what grade are you in?

YourWonderman: Senior.

emmy01: do i know you?

YourWonderman: I hope you do.

emmy01: have we ... talked before?

YourWonderman: No, sadly. I've been watching you though.

emmy01 has signed off at 11:01 PM.

PlayWithMe: I can't believe you blocked me, Emmy Winifred Blaine.

Emmy swallowed slowly. No one knew her middle name, except her parents, and those two were watching a comedy movie two rooms away. She was tempted to block him again, but this guy… or girl, obviously knew more about her than she thought.

emmy01: why are you iming me?

PlayWithMe: I just want to talk to a pretty girl, is that so wrong?

emmy01: i'll only talk to you if you tell me who you are.

PlayWithMe: Playing hard to get, eh? Well that's alright.

emmy01: lets play twenty questions then.

PlayWithMe: Hm, that seems so middle school.

emmy01: you seem like a fifty year old pervert. suck it up. first question: how the hell do you know my middle name?

PlayWithMe: A little birdie told me.

emmy01: you're not playing fairly.

PlayWithMe: Well, you never got my consent, little one.

emmy01: so you admitted it, you are older than me.

PlayWithMe: Not necessarily. I could also be older than you by a minute, an hour, a day, or maybe a month. You never know, sweetheart. ;)

emmy01: im going to block you.

PlayWithMe: I have over twenty other screen names, beautiful. I could easily IM you until you crack.

emmy01: i could sign off aim for real, have you thought about that?

PlayWithMe: Let's see you.

Emmy's hand hovered over the computer mouse, her fingers trembling. Dread was stirring in her stomach. Something didn't feel right. She didn't know who this was - could it be a stupid prank from the upperclassmen? She hoped to God it was; she didn't want it to be an actual person. She signed off, her heart racing faster than usual.

emmy01 has signed off at 5:49 PM.

"I can't believe Mr. Dawn just did that," Everett complained, stuffing his face with potato chips. "Now we're going to have to work over the weekend for that stupid psychology project - I mean, who seriously cares…?"

"I care about my grade," Emmy said seriously, taking a sip of her soda. "We're just going to have to do it."

"Do you have IM?" Louise asked sincerely.

Emmy smiled weakly. "Yeah... I'll just write it down." She ripped off a piece quickly scribbling: emmy01 before handing it to Louise. "You have Everett's?" Seeing her nod, "Then just give me Everett's today."

LOUgirliexx: hey, its Louise!

emmy01: haha, i guessed that from the sn! :-)

LOUgirliexx: what's up?

OrangeApples103: im rollin my eyes rite now blondie. anyway, you chat with louie?

OrangeApples103: typical louie. she's 2 busy.

emmy01: hm... so what were you thinking for the psychology project?

OrangeApples103: truthfully, i have no idea... let's just chat for a while and then do homework later. xD

emmy01: grrrrr... fine, okay.

Emmy was waiting for Everett's reply when another message popped up. Her pulse raced.

PlayWithMe: So you actually signed off.

emmy01: what are you doing, still iming me?

PlayWithMe: I can't believe you didn't go on for two weeks straight.

emmy01: leave me alone, please.

PlayWithMe: So this Everett seems to like you.

emmy01: what?! no he doesn't... you don't know what you're talking about... just leave me alone...

OrangeApples103: you okay?

emmy01: yeah... sorry... got distracted.

OrangeApples103: understandable. ;)

PlayWithMe: So, are you going to the annual Fall Ball?

emmy01: no.

PlayWithMe: Why not? I'll be there.

emmy01: all the more why i say no.

PlayWithMe: If you really wanted to know, I have a crush on you.

emmy01: what?

PlayWithMe: I've been crushing on you ever since middle school. I've done practically everything to get your attention - I even found out your middle name.

emmy01: why didnt you tell me that before?

PlayWithMe: It's not as easy as it seems.

emmy01: you... like me?

PlayWithMe: I've seen you hanging around Everett Wilde and naturally assumed... and yes, I do like you.

emmy01: god, thank god! i was afraid ... urgh! you scared me, lol!

PlayWithMe: You thought I was a stalker? I'm seriously laughing right now, Emmy.

emmy01: yeah, ik! kinda silly, huh?

PlayWithMe: It's not that silly. I think it's pretty endearing.

emmy01: why do you type like that... its instant mess... you can mispell and w.e, no one cares, lol.

PlayWithMe: Then no one should care if I type correctly, right?

emmy01: good point.

PlayWithMe: I think we should meet up one day, after school.

emmy01: yeah right, lol.

PlayWithMe: Why not?

emmy01: b/c you just said that you were afraid to im me. why would you want to meet up with me?

PlayWithMe: I'm getting braver just talking to you.

emmy01: anyway, i lied. i am going to the ball. maybe ill meet you there.

PlayWithMe: Maybe.

PlayWithMe: Who's your date?

emmy01: Eric Liam. the soccer captain.

PlayWithMe: Oh.

emmy01: lol, sorry.

PlayWithMe: Don't you want to know who I'm going with?

emmy01: o...kay. who are you going with?

PlayWithMe: No one. I was waiting to ask you, but apparently I was too late.

emmy01: you're making me feel guilty.

PlayWithMe: Good. :)

PlayWithMe: By the way...

emmy01: i have to go, sorry!

emmy01 has signed off at 12:01 AM.

PlayWithMe: I like blondes more than brunettes.

I'm sorry, your message has not been received by emmy01.

PlayWithMe: So what's your favorite sport?

emmy01: lol, for someone who likes me, you obviously haven't done your research. im on the basketball team. varsity.

PlayWithMe: So you're a jock, eh?

emmy01: kinda...

PlayWithMe: A cute jock, at that.

emmy01: lol.

"Emmy, you look wonderful," her mother complimented as Emmy walked down the staircase. "Like a princess."

And she did. Her blonde hair was beautifully strung onto her head, soft, light colored ringlets tracing her face. Her light, dew green dress seemed identical to her eyes, and as she connected her eyes briefly with Eric, they shared a smile. "You look great, Emmy," Eric said, kissing her on the cheek. "One-of-a-kind."

"Thanks Eric," Emmy said, blushing prettily.

"We're going to go," Eric said, like a true gentlemen, his green tie matching.

Her mother grinned fondly before opening the door, "Have fun, kids. And Emmy, if I hear that you lost your virginity, Eric won't be alive to hear the tale."

Eric paled, but Emmy laughed, pecking her mother on the cheek. "Thanks mom." She saw Eric's somewhat relaxed face and grabbed his hands, heading towards the limousine. "Come on, let's get out of here."

She felt strange. Her skin was crawling, almost as if someone was gazing at her from behind. She glanced behind her shoulder to see the front door closed and locked, so her eyebrows furrowed. "That's odd," she muttered to herself, though the thoughts were easily lost when Eric put his hand on the small of her waist.

"Let's have a great time," Eric said softly, making Emmy flush.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRL KIDNAPPED, RAPED, AND KILLED ON NIGHT OF FALL BALL

Written by Bridgette Greene

November 29th

"I had thought she was in safe hands." Those were the first words of Harper Blaine as she sat in the interview, wiping her tears away with a handkerchief. "She was leaving with a suitable boy, looked wonderful. I didn't know… I didn't know."

We all didn't know. Emmy Winifred Blaine was a talented girl in school—a dedicated varsity basketball player, a good friend, with a GPA that rivaled the valedictorian's. It would seem as if she was the perfect target for anyone. Harper admits that Emmy did spend quite some time on the internet, or specifically: AIM.

AIM or AOL Instant Messenger, was a messaging service that almost the entire high school used. But we were able to find saved IM chats on Emmy's computer that made us wonder. An anonymous sender, with multiple different usernames, constantly messaged Emmy. Emmy responded with 'who are you' and 'leave me alone'. But her pleas went on empty ears as the sender continued to talk to her. The two soon became friends, Emmy thinking that the sender was just someone who had a crush on her. Emmy admitted she went to Montgomery High, and was on the varsity basketball team.

It was also seen that she happened to speak quite casually with the sender, and through later observations, was concluded that the boy did not attend the high school. Reports are being done, and most of the information about the sender includes: over forty years old, brown-gray hair, light blue eyes, and a somewhat overweight build. We have been doing searches, but most have come to a zero result find.

Harper and Matt, Emmy's parents, have officially uninstalled the program from the computer, preventing their three year old baby, to have any mishaps.

Through the eyes of witnesses, Emmy had come to the Fall Ball with date, Eric Liam, the captain of the varsity soccer team. "We danced for a while," Eric said, his eyes red. "But I couldn't find her after a while, and just decided she probably went to the bathroom or something. I couldn't find her even after the end of the dance."

Emmy's blood-stained dress was mailed to the Blaine residence, days after the dance had occurred. Most had thought that Emmy Blaine had just gone missing, but when seeing the dress with the note attached: I like blondes more than brunettes, we can all conclude what happened.

This might be just one mystery that can't be solved.

Further investigation is still going on—the Blaine residence, the Liam residence, Gold and Bridge residences are also being questioned and kept under a tight hold.

His grin was light as he dropped the newspaper. He gathered his cup of coffee and plate of cake into his hands, walking over to his laptop, the screen flashing orange. Getting comfortable in his seat, he took a sip of his coffee before chuckling darkly, his malicious eyes sparkling with danger. "Onto the next girl…"

alittle2pretty: who is this?? how did you get my sn?!

WatchFromAfar: Your secret admirer.

A/N: I was feeling bored. I kinda wanted to try some horror, even though I totally suck at it. –shrug- So, what do you guys think? Huh? Whatever. : )
