BWHAHAH! More soon!
kinda just introducing my other main character. . . and figuring out how to bridge to where im going.
The shots rang through the ally, echoing off the graffitied bricks.
Jordan didn't hear them, she watched the blue eyes turn from tranquility to shock and horror as their body slumped against the bricks, and then slowly crumpled to the pavement.
Young, too young.
As the boy fell, something slipped from his hand; Jordan watched it clatter silently against the ground, glinting in the streetlamp light. Lowering her gun and slipping it back into its holster, she sat on the nearby curb, staring at the object.
"Jordan. . . Jordan. . . Jordan!"
From somewhere her name sliced through the silence. City sounds suddenly crashed back into reality. Jordan looked up to where her name had come from.
"Chris. . . How old do you think he is?" Jordan looked up at her partner, noticing now that the cleaning crew had arrived and was preparing to clean up this night's mission. By morning when the streets opened, no one would know.
Chris sat beside her on the curb, forcing a coffee into her hands. "They recruit younger and younger now."
"Rapists and murderers run free and they have us hunting children." Jordan looked disgustedly at her coffee.
Chris turned to stare at her. "You know why, what they are, what they do."
"Yea, doesn't mean I have to agree with the law."
"Look, I'm sorry this one got out of hand. I'll pick up the next one, I promise, ok?" Jordan nodded and stood. "Yea alright, I'll keep after you on that! I'm going to go get some sleep, though. See you in the morning?"
Chris simply nodded a yes and took another sip of his coffee.
Before heading back to her hoverboard Jordan turned to look at the boy one last time and remember the object he had dropped. . .
"Wait!" she called to the cleaning crew. Jordan slowly stepped beside the body, picking up the shining object.
It was a cross, a silver cross on a chain. Silver vines twisted around the cross, the intricate detail stunning for such a simple object. It shone in the dim light as if it wanted the whole city to see.
Jordan curled her fingers around the necklace and shoved it into her pocket. "Thanks" She said under her breath to the cleaning crew. Then she turned and walked back to her board, and headed back to the upper city.
