Welcome to my new story! It's different from "The Pain They Share" but it's also the same in some ways. I'll admit it, I got this idea from "Loveless" except for that they don't loose their features when they loose their virginity.

Summary: In a world where some people are born with animal features, Kit gets to attend Ashtire Academy, the place for people like them. But, will there be happiness or heartbreak for Kit when he enters the school and meets Fang, the other boy he's rooming with. M/M F/F

Warnings: Slash and femslash, yaoi and yuri, M/M and F/F whatever you want to call it. Just know that the main couples is BOY/BOY and GIRL/GIRL. Not your cup of tea or your thing? That's fine. Just don't flame me because you don't like this stuff. I happen to, so don't critize me for what I like.\

Part 1: Mysteries

Chapter 1: Can You Say "Cliche"?

-Kit-

My eyebrows rose. A letter? Wow, that not cliche... not. I took the letter from the table and rolled my eyes. This was sounding too much like the book I had finished reading. The hero had gotten a letter a lot like this. But I'm not a hero. I stuck the letter into a pocket of my cargo pants just as my mother looked at me.

"What are you doing?" She demanded, and I sighed a little.

"Nothing, I was just about to go up to my room," I told her, the letter burning a hole in my pocket. She nodded at me and I fled to my room, dodging the shoe that sailed past my head, the wind ruffling my red-brown hair and the appendages hidden within. I dove into my room and looked at the letter again. The envelope was made of creamy paper and my name and address were in jet black ink. The return address was in dark blue ink and my heart sped up when I read it.

Ashtire Academy!? Why would they want me? I knew a little bit about it, it was my dream school. A place where I wouldn't have to worry about the things that made me different at normal school. I opened the envelope and took the letter out.

Dear Mr. Carlson,

We understand that you are... different from the students in your current school. We are writing to invite you to Ashtire Academy. Although you do not have you, we highly suggest attending. If you wish to attend, please go to the website listed below and send us your registration information. We stop accepting registration on July 23.

We hope to hear from you soon,

Mr. Jacob Ashtire,

Founder and Headmaster of Ashtire Academy

My heart skipped a beat but I thought about what my parents would say. I sighed and walked out of my room. Before I could do anything, I had to ask my parents... and that was something I was dreading to do.

"Mother? Father?" I asked, poking my head into the living room.

"What?" My father barked and I winced.

"Um... I got a letter today, inviting me to go to Ashtire Academy. I was wondering if I could go," I mumbled, feeling something press closer to my legs. My parents looked over at me and my mother held her hand out. I passed her the envelope and the letter and she looked over the contents. She shook the envelope out and something dropped out. She read what had dropped out with scrutiny. Her blue eyes widened and she looked at me.

"Very well. You can go. Don't expect us to drive you there and pick you up, they're arranging transport for you." My heart leaped and I fought the urge to smile. "Go fill out the registration." I nodded and took the letter and envelope and hurried upstairs to the computer. My younger sister was on it and she sneered at me.

"What do you want?" She demanded and I looked at her before looking at my feet.

"I need to use the computer for school."

"We're on break. There is no school work," she said, flipping her blond hair back.

"It's for registration," I told her and she snorted.

"Yeah right," she said but let me get on the computer. I opened up a new Internet window and typed in the address. A blue, red and black page appeared before me with the Ashtire Academy crest on it.

"REGISTRATION!" was at the top right and I clicked on it. The page turned while with the crest on the top left page and there were a couple of questions on it. I gulped and looked over it. It didn't asked for anything that really had to do with academics. I blinked a little as I filled it out.

Name: Kit Carlson

Gender: Male

Age: 14

Entering Grade: 10th

Birth Date: October 24, 1998

Distinct Feature: Fox ears and tail

Academic Strengths: English and math.

Academic Weaknesses: PE

Dorm Preferences: Another male and two females

Why do you want to attend? I think it'll be easier for me to get my work done if I don't have to worry about other people staring at my ears or tail. Besides, it'll be nice to meet people who are like me.

If this person(s) is attending the school, I would want Amber Johnson in my dorm room

"That was easy," I remarked as I sent the registration. My sister growled.

"Yeah, yeah. Easy as cake, now go away," she said, tugging on my tail. I yanked it out of her grip and closed my window before going to my room. I shut the door and walked over to the window and sat on the wide windowsill with my back to the edge of the sill. I opened the window and let the wind blow into my room, rustling papers. My phone buzzed from inside my pocket and I pulled it out only to receive a text message from my best friend.

Guess what, Aniki! I got accepted to a special school, and I'm going there instead of the public school! -Kohaku

I smiled sadly, happy for her, but wishing she was coming to Ashtire with me. I didn't tell her that, I was happy for her.

That's great, Kohaku. I'm going to a special school too, mother and father agreed. Good luck there. -Aniki

I texted her back quickly before setting my phone down and looked up at the moon and stars. I felt like Cinderella except Cinderella was a guy with fox features, she was given a chance to get away from her horrid family but there was no prince or happily-ever-after for her. I sighed and my ears lowered, my tail curling closer to my and I hugged it like it was a toy. It just wasn't fair.

-Amber-

I squealed with happiness before I hugged my father. "Thank you, daddy!" I cried, before I ran upstairs and to my computer. I had just gotten a letter from Ashtire Academy, inviting me to it. My dad had said I could go and I was just sending the information to the school. I tapped my foot impatiently as the pages loaded. When the page finally loaded I started answering the questions.

Name: Amber Johnson

Gender: Female

Age: 15

Entering Grade: 10th

Birth Date: June 30, 1998

Distinct Feature: Cat ears and tail

Academic Strengths: Science and Social Studies (including Geography)

Academic Weaknesses: Math and PE

Dorm Preferences: Another female and two males

Why do you want to attend? I want to meet others with animal features like me. I also think it'll be fun because I've never been to a boarding school before and it'll be a new experience for me.

If this person(s) is attending the school, I would want Kit Carlson and Spinel Tigiren in my dorm room

I smiled as I sent the information and leaned back in the swivel chair I was in. I pulled out my phone and sent a text to my best friend.

Guess what, Aniki! I got accepted to a special school, and I'm going there instead of the public school! -Kohaku

I waited a little bit for him to reply and when he did, I frowned a little bit.

That's great, Kohaku. I'm going to a special school too, mother and father agreed. Good luck there. -Aniki

He sounded sad for some reason. I was about to reply to him when my phone buzzed and I looked at who had sent the text. It was from Spinel. I smiled widely and opened it, momentarily forgetting about Aniki.

Hey, Amb. What's up?

Nothing much, I got accepted into Ashtire though.

I sent the message and quickly sent another message to Aniki.

What's wrong, Aniki? He didn't answer though and that got me worried. My phone buzzed again and I quickly read what Spinel had written.

That's awesome! I just sent in my registration forms, although I didn't have to answer that much. Are you excited?

Are you kidding?! Of course I am! I can't wait to see you again. I'm just worried about Aniki.

Your friend? Why? I could easily see her concern through the message and I smiled a little.

He seems depressed and he said he was going to a special school too and I'm worried I won't see him again.

Don't worry about it. There aren't a lot of schools that accept people like us, so he's probably coming here too. It'll be okay. Chu~

I guess so... Thanks, Spinel. I love you.

Anytime, sweetness, anytime. I love you too and I'll see you later.

See you later.

I shut my phone and walked down stairs to where my father and only guardian was sitting on the couch and was watching TV.

"Hey, honey. Did you send the stuff?" He asked and I nodded, going to sit next to him.

"Yup. Spinel's going. So it'll be okay," I told him as I stretched. My father smiled and ruffled my hair. I giggled a little and hugged him. "I am worried though, about Kit." My father was instantly serious.

"Oh, why's that?" He asked and I looked at him.

"He's going to a school like Ashtire, butt I don't know if it is or not," I told him and he smiled with a twinkle in his eyes.

"Well, you know what they say." I blinked, confused.

"What do they say?" I asked and he smiled.

"Everything will be okay in the end," he said, smiling cheekily. I groaned and hit him on the head with a pillow.

"That was so cliche!" I whined as he started tickling me. I shrieked with laughter, squirming. He laughed too, his laughter deep in comparison to mine. When he stopped tickling, we sat there in silence, enjoying the other's company. I yawned and hugged him again. "Night, daddy," I said, yawning again.

"Night, sweetheart," he said, kissing my forehead before letting me go. I walked up to my room and changed quickly before sliding into bed and curling up underneath my blankets. I looked at the pictures on my bedside table and I smiled. One showed me and Kit laughing as I threw water over him. The other showed me on a swing with another girl with brown cat ears pushing me. We were both smiling happily as the sun shone down on us.

"Good night, Spinel," I whispered before I drifted off to sleep.

-Spinel-

I didn't even blink as Fang fell onto my bed, sniffling. "If you're sick, get out," I told him, glaring at him. He groaned and rolled over, throwing an arm over his eyes.

"I hate being sick," he whined and I rolled my eyes as I turned back to the screen. He acted all mean and anti-social in public, but when he was alone with his friends he was like a pup and he was just as adorable. I reached over and ruffled his hair, petting his ears as I did. He moved closer to my hand and his foot kicked a little bit.

"You're sicker than a dog, aren't you?" I asked and his golden eyes glared at me.

"Wolf. I'm a wolf, not a dog like Nathaniel," he muttered as he yawned as his ears twitched. I smiled a little, the smiled turning into a frown as he looked at the framed picture on his bedside table. It showed him as a young boy standing next to another young boy with little fox ears and a tail. They were chasing each other around and the little fox boy was pouting at the mini-Fang.

"You haven't found him yet, have you?" I asked and he shook his head.

"Not yet. I can't remember his name... only his scent," Fang sighed and I moved to sit next to him, my hand stroking his hair. He whimpered a little and trudged over to his bed. He curled up on it, still fully dressed and he fell asleep. I smiled a little bit before I covered him with a blanket. His gray ear twitched and I pressed a kiss onto his forehead. I hoped he'd get better.

I looked back at the screen, and the questions I had to answer. They were simple, just like the ones from our first year.

Name: Spinel Tigiren

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Entering Grade: 10th

Birth Date: May 16, 1997

Distinct Feature: Cat ears and tail

Academic Strengths: Art and PE

Academic Weaknesses: Social Studies and Science

Dorm Preferences: Another female and two males

If this person(s) is attending the school, I would want Amber Johnson and Fang Scepten in my dorm room

It had been simple and I looked over at Fang. He was sleeping but it didn't seem like he was sleeping well. His ears twitched a little and I sighed. Poor Fang. I had thought it was a nightmare about his parents, but the name he uttered blew my mind.

"Kit!" I blinked. Wasn't Amber's friend named Kit? Wait, better question, was Kit the name of the fox boy in the picture? I shook my head to rid it of the questions as I sent Amber a text.

Hey, Amb. What's up? I waited for her reply and it came in seconds.

Nothing much, I got accepted into Ashtire though.

That's awesome! I just sent in my registration forms, although I didn't have to answer that much. Are you excited?

Are you kidding?! Of course I am! I can't wait to see you again. I'm just worried about Aniki.

Your friend? Why? "Aniki" was also Kit, right? My mind buzzed at the same time my phone did and I looked down at the new message.

He seems depressed and he said he was going to a special school too and I'm worried I won't see him again.

Don't worry about it. There aren't a lot of schools that accept people like us, so he's probably coming here too. It'll be okay. Chu~

I guess so... Thanks, Spinel. I love you.

Anytime, sweetness, anytime. I love you too and I'll see you later.

See you later.

I put my phone down and looked over at the clock. It was nearly midnight and I sighed as I change quickly into my pjs and crawled under my covers. I glanced over at Fang and got out of my warm bed. If he was having nightmares, I knew the one thing that calmed him was another body next to his. I did love Fang, don't get me wrong, but just not in the romantic sense. My heart was still buzzing about the last time I had seen Amber.

I slipped under the blankets and he blearily looked over at me and he questioned me in a sleepy voice. "Uh... Spinel?" He asked and I just looked at him.

"You were having a nightmare," I supplied and he nodded, welcoming me under the covers. I opened my arms and he curled into them gratefully, my fingers combing through his hair until we both fell alseep.

-Fang-

I sneezed as I sat with my guardians, Mr and Mrs Tigiren. My "mother" looked over at me and she pressed a hand against my forehead. "You don't have a feaver, but you should go up to bed anyway," she told me, scolding me gently. I nodded sleepily and she smiled before shooing me upstairs. Ever since my parents had died, Spinel's parents had taken me in and had made me their "son" so long as I didn't go after Spin. I had scoffed at that; Spin was like my sister and besides, I knew she was already involved with someone.

I stopped as I passed the only computer downstairsr. I shrugged and slipped into the chair and logged in. I still needed to submit my registraion stuff. When the page opened I clicked on the "Returning Student" button and quickly looked at the questions. I rolled my eyes and quickly typed in my responces.

Name: Fang Scepten

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Grade: 10th

Birth Date: January 15, 1997

Distinct Feature: Wolf ears and tail

Academic Strengths: PE and English

Academic Weaknesses: Science

Dorm Preferences: Another male and two females

If this person(s) is attending the school, I would want Spinel Tigiren in my dorm room

I smiled as I sent it off but I coughed soon afterwards and I trudged up to the room Spinel and I share. When I walked in, Spinel was on othe computer and I flopped on to her bed sniffling a little bit. "If you're sick get out," she informed me, glaring at me. Groaning, I rolled over, throwing an arm over my eyes as I did.

"I hate being sick," I complained as Spinel turned back to the screen as she rolled her eyes. I knew her though. She acted like she didn't care at times but she really did and she was a sweetie and only had a temper if you pissed her off, which I tend to do a lot, or when you threaten her friends. Spinel reached over and ruffled my hair, fondling my ears a little as she did, eyes still on the screen. I curled closer to her hand, my leg kicking like a puppy's.

"You're sicker than a dog, aren't you?" I glared at her.

"Wolf. I'm a wolf, not a dog like Nathaniel," I groused as I yawned, ears twitching. I looked over at the picture frame on my bedside table. Two little boys were running in it against an autumn background. One of them was a younger me, with my messy hair and gray wolf ears. The other was a boy, about a year younger than me, with red-brown hair and emerald eyes. He had little fox ears on his head and a tiny fox tail... and he was pouting at me.

"You haven't found him yet, have you?" Spinel asked and I shook my head sadly.

"Not yet. I can't remember his name... only his scent," I murmured as she moved to sit next to me, her gently hand petting my hair. I bit my lip and whimpered a bit before going over to my own bed and curling up on it, still fully asleep. I was still awake when she covered me with a blanket and kissed my forehead. I secretly smiled. I was blessed to have Spinel as my sister.

When I slept, I had a nightmare. I was alone in the blackness and there was a ray of amber light that shone on a little boy, the same boy from my picture. He looked back at me, his mouth forming my name.

"---!" I called, but no name came out of my lips. The boy started walking away and I felt myself getting larger, as I had been a little boy at that time, watching as the boy got older too. I started to chase after him, but as I reached out to him I couldn't grab him. He kept walking away, getting father and farther away from me. I heard a child's voice speaking.

"I'm like Cinderella, but she has a chance to get away from them but she doesn't have a prince or happily-ever-after... at least I don't now. It wasn't fair." His green eyes pierced into my gold ones and when I opened my mouth to speak, nothing came out. My voice was gone. "You're like Ariel. You're beautiful voice is gone. The question is, will you get it back?" He held up a small globe in the shape of a wolf's paw and I reached for it but it was tossed away. It didn't shatter against the ground and I was thrown into the darkness like the wolf's paw. My moth was open in a silent scream, but I had no voice. I could do nothing.

Something slipped under the blankets with me and I turned, waking up, to see Spinel crawling into the bed with me. "Uh... Spinel?" I asked, afraid my nightmare was going to come true.

"You were having a nightmare," she told me and I nondded, letting her get comfortable under the covers. She opened her arms and I let her hold me, grateful for the comfort she provided. Her finger carded through my hair and soothed my mind, keeping the nightmares away as I fell asleep again.

Hm... I think I'm happy with the result. Anyway, I hope you guys like this and be on the look-out for the next chapter.

See ya!
