Midnight at the Graveyard
Kirsty, Niki, Sam, and Nadia were all planning to celebrate Halloween at Damon's mansion. All of them were going to dress as vampires as a theme. Sam came over early to help Damon garnish his house with a bunch of Halloween decorations. They had both gone out and bought them the day before and were trying to scare all of the girls.
"I hope we get them good this year!" Sam exclaimed.
"Yeah, last year they laughed at us," Damon replied.
They finished at the exact time that the doorbell rang for the first time that night. With a grin Sam put on a mask and hid behind the door as he opened it. Once it was completely open he jumped out from behind the door and yelled. It was not any of the girls that answered the door though; it was a little boy who turned pale white when he saw him. Damon started laughing as the boy ran away screaming.
"Wait! Come back!" Sam yelled as he pulled off his mask and started chasing the boy, "I can explain! I thought you were somebody else…No! Don't tell your dad…help!"
A little while later a big bulky man who was carrying Sam by his wrists walked in the door and said, "Here's your friend," and dropped him on the ground.
Sam had a bloody nose and one eye tightly shut that was beginning to bruise. He grumbled as he shakily walked over to the couch and lied down on it. With another moan Sam grabbed the remote and turned on the TV to a Halloween movie that was on. The doorbell rang again a few minutes later and Damon went over and opened it. Nadia was standing there with a smile on her angel-like face. Behind her was Niki and Kirsty who were curiously looking at the decorations in the house.
"What happened to him?" Niki asked with a frown.
"Oh, he got beaup by a kid's dad because he was trying to scare you," Damon smugly answered and everyone started laughing.
The three girls walked in and Sam turned off the TV. Damon turned on some Halloween music and everyone started talking and partying. Sam never really moved from the couch much because the guy had kicked him hard in both of his shins. Kirsty joked that she should go get him crutches. After awhile Niki noticed that it was eleven thirty.
"Hey! Has anyone ever gone to the graveyard on Halloween? If there's a full moon out, then apparently the spirits of the people buried there are supposed to come out at midnight," Niki stated; everyone just laughed.
"I don't believe that, but let's go there anyways!" Damon said, still laughing a bit.
They all searched the house for flashlights and, after finding four, walked outside into the chilly night air. There was an unnatural silence outside and no one but themselves out in the dark. The vigorous wind nipped at there ears as they walked—limped in Sam's case—over to the St. Peter's Cemetery. All of them were shocked when they finally reached the graveyard.
"It's like a giant forest! Look at all of those trees!" Kirsty exclaimed.
"Yeah. I hope we don't get lost in there," Nadia added.
"Don't worry. It's not that big." Damon said.
All of them continued in through the cemetery. Soon they were deep into the graveyard and they heard an eerie whistling in front of them. Sam jumped at the sound of it and fell over. Everyone else laughed at him though the laughter was a bit panic-stricken. Niki helped Sam up while the rest of the group began walking over to the noise. Suddenly an evil cackle erupted from the same direction as the whistling and everybody froze with fright. It stopped soon and Damon continued walking towards the mysterious noise. No one followed him.
As soon as Damon was barely visible Kirsty and Nadia chased him. Niki stayed with Sam as he leaned on her shoulder to keep his balance. Neither of them moved nor spoke; not even when their friends had not returned for what seemed like hours. Both just kept staring off in the direction that their friends had gone.
Meanwhile, Kirsty, Damon, and Nadia had found the source of all the noises. A teenage grave digger was digging a spot for a dead body. Beside him were two other empty graves for other people. All of them had tomb stones including the one he was still digging.
"Hey mister grave guy!" Damon exclaimed without fear, though he was still a little creeped out.
The grave digger was silent as he turned to face them. He walked up close to Damon and stared down at him. It was then that Damon noticed how pale the grave
digger was; he was almost transparent. He also seemed to rise up and back down a bit. Damon saw that this was because he was floating about an inch off the ground. This scared the little group.
"Hello children," the grave digger greeted, flashing a set of sharp teeth.
"Um…bye now!" Damon said quickly as he began to walk away with a hurry.
"No. I'm just starting on you guys," the grave digger stated as he disappeared.
He reappeared in front of Kirsty, quickly pinning her down in one of the empty graves, and said, "Good- bye Kirsty."
He pulled out a fiery orange orb from her heart and Kirsty immediately went limp and pale in her grave. Next the grave digger grabbed both Nadia and Damon by their necks and brought them by Kirsty. Nadia and Damon became almost as pale when they saw Kirsty. One of the grave digger's hands turned translucent and Nadia fell out of it with a loud thump.
"He's a ghost," she barely whispered before the grave digger shoved her in her grave and took her soul from her the same way as he did Kirsty.
"Fear me," the ghost said to Nadia's dead body, "You too," he whispered in Damon's ear.
He let go of his grip on Damon's neck and Damon instantly gasped for breath when he hit the ground. He ran as fast as his legs would allow towards Niki and Sam, but stopped in his tracks. Damon knew that if he ran for his friends, the ghost would get them too but if he didn't he would surely die. He would die even if the ghost got his friends so Damon decided just to die here.
"Bye now," was the last thing Damon heard before he died.
The sun was beginning to rise over the hill before Niki and Sam started towards the car. They decided to come back later with the police to search for their friends. It wouldn't do any good to search right now while barely any light shone.
"Wait!" A voice called out to them.
They both turned around to see a boy about their age run towards them and say, "I know where your friends are!"
"Where?" Niki and Sam called out in union.
"Follow me and I'll show you," the boy answered.
They suspiciously followed him to where they saw their friends disappear. He led them to five graves right next to each other. The tomb stones looked new and the soil seemed to be fresh. Two of them though, were empty though. Niki looked at her surroundings for someone.
"I don't see them," Niki stated as she looked back at the boy.
"Look at the tomb stones," he replied.
Both Sam and Niki worriedly looked down at the graves. The name on the first tomb was Nadia Rincon. They looked at the following two where the names were Damon Rogers and Kirsty Mantras. It wasn't those names that scared them the most though; it was the other two which had the names Sam Winter and Niki Rosa.
"Bye now!" They heard the boy exclaim tauntingly as he flashed his sharp teeth.
